Emmerdale )

I had a plan for this week. It was not to have a shower on Sunday, because it was far too cold in my flat, and when I woke up late on Monday it was to not go out and pay my rent and my water bill till the next day, and to stay in and have a shower and tidy up instead. So far I haven't done much of that. Although I have had a shower and the rent is paid, and I did a bit of tidying because the building underneath me had a leak through their ceiling and my landlords wanted to send the plumber round. It totally wasn’t me though. Hah.

What I have been doing is:

  • Through Youtube investigations, confirmed my suspicion that the first/2006 Big Fat Quiz of the Year is the only one worth bothering with. Although the second one does have David Mitchell. The first one has the origin of "congratuwell done". That's almost perfection in itself.

  • Reading brilliant Twilight parodies!

  • Watching brilliant Robert Pattison Twilight interviews! (It takes a while to load, and isn't particularly brilliant till about 3 minutes in, but then it is QUITE brilliant). It almost as good as having read the books.

  • Listening to my Woman and Woman Vol. 2 CDs I used to have and ripped to my computer. Walk On By! Love...Thy Will Be Done! I Don't Wanna Lose You! Why don't I have Cyndi Lauper albums? It's genius.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to pay my water bill again. And try to get them to pay me some Jobseeker's Allowance, still. And go to my agency and see if they have any work going. Because I sort of need a job at the moment. Soon-ish, really.

I haven't watched Heroes in two weeks. I've been sort of sucked in by the Devil's Whore and Casualty. They have - acting? Acting where you can tell what might happen sometimes from what people are doing and how they look at each other and stuff? And plotlines that make some sense? I'd forgotten about that a bit. I'm going to catch up with Heroes eventually. It might take some kind of Angela-Peter-Sylar taskforce. I'll probably catch up. At some point.

The Devil's Whore finishes tomorrow, I think. I think things I like will happen. I barely dare to hope. It's a shame though, because it broke up the week nicely. Ah well. I only have one more week left at work anyway.

Tonight on Emmerdale, Matthew convinced the fiancee whose father he secretly caused the death of to give him some money to keep his business afloat. Possibly he really was reluctant to ask, possibly he wanted to seem that way so she'd be more likely to give it to him. I love how awful he is. It's a bit great. It turns out he told Carl about the whole thing the day after her father died, and they sort of discussed it and the best way to handle a secret accidental murder. The King boys are a bit great. I may have mentioned that before. They remain that way.

Things I love:

  1. The King brothers from Emmerdale. I didn't have much time yesterday to explain things, but last week it basically all came out about how Matthew had planted a PA in Carl's office to steal his ideas and ruin his launch for his new business. Carl got mad and smashed printers and computer screens, and Jimmy decided he was SICK of the fighting, and wanted to leave the business and move out of their big house. This led to Matthew pretending he didn't care, then hanging around by doorways listening to Jimmy on the phone to estate agents, and staying late at the office to build a tower of pencils, then run a hand over his face and SMASH the pencils.

And then on Friday, ALL they talked about was making proposals to each other. Jimmy had a proposal that he and Carl should go into business together. Then Carl found out just how deep Matthew's plan had gone, and went round to tell him how appalled he was. Matthew then chased him out into the street to ask him what would happen now, and Carl was all "Nothing. I'm sick of fighting." And Matthew was all "Come on, you're not ACTUALLY going to stay with [new old businessman]?!". BECAUSE THE IMPORTANT THING IS REALLY THAT CARL COMES BACK TO THEM. THAT IS WHAT HE REALLY WANTS. ALSO CARL SHOULD STAY IN HIS LIFE AND BE FIGHTING WITH HIM, PLEASE. And someone, possibly Jimmy, pointed out that he was going to be ALL ALONE now. And the next scene with them was them all sitting awkwardly in the Woolpack together having a drink. Carl ran off to the bar to get them some more drinks with the new old businessman, who clearly thought he had won something when he HAD NOT, and Matthew asked if Jimmy wasn't going to stay in the house now. Jimmy seemed less than keen, and Matthew said that it wasn't a marriage proposal, WHICH CLEARLY IT WAS. Jimmy said he'd think about it.

Tonight, Jimmy was round at the office with boxes, and Matthew looked all a bit confused and wary and slightly hurt, until Jimmy said he was just tidying up a bit, having MOVED BACK IN. Then he almost tricked Matthew into giving him a hug, and then laughed at him, and then jumped on him and covered Matthew's mouth with his hand and kissed it. His hand, over Matthew's mouth. Probably they have rules about kissing. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

  2. My plants. They haven't died yet. I got two new ones, actually. A Strelitzia, or Bird of Paradise plant, whose flowers look gorgeous on the little card, but the buds of which form in the winter the back of the card tells me. It also tells me the plant needs fertilising or resoiling every month or so, so the odds of me actually getting it to the flowering stage don't seem that good. The other is an Art Deco dahlia, which I bought already flowering from a market stall, and which is beautiful, if a bit overgrown in the leaf sense. I have slightly higher hopes for it though. The busy lizzies are busy flowering, flowering all over the place. Need to pot them soon, really. And one of the dahlias I bought has one flower on it, flowering. It is the plant I thought it was, I'm pretty sure. And a beautiful colour. All in all, I'm very proud. And pleased.

  3. The Massively spoilery scene from Iron Man )

  4. There's a TV version of Sweeney Todd on at the moment. It's already much better than the Johnny Depp version. Even if there's no singing.

Christmas

I have been at my parents and EVEN WORSE AT LJ THAN USUAL. Hello. Mostly television won at being itself, and my family weren't as horrendous as it all could have been. Quite good actually. Ten games of Lunar Jim are alright, really. And there was Yule Log, which always improves things, really.

Anyway. Telly. OMG. First there was Sold )

And then there was Emmerdale. Oh my God, Emmerdale. Emmerdale )

And then there was other stuff. Last Sunday there was randomly a Big Fat Quiz on about Channel 4, with Jack Dee and Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell, which was lovely. On Christmas Eve there was a Comedy Connections about Red Dwarf, and then the first ever episode, and Christmas At The Riviera, which featured Reece Shearsmith running around with beautiful glasses on. Then there was the Hudsucker Proxy, which I'd never seen all the way through before, and about which there seems to be no slash. They put the Lemony Snicket movie on as a Christmas movie, and Dustin Hoffman turned up in it. Then on Boxing Day there was The Old Curiousity Shop, and Bryan Dick randomly appeared in that too. Derek Jacobi tried to tell him that he was a wastrel and a scoundrel, and he was all "Excuse me, I think you'll find I have a hat and a cane". He wasn't in it very much, he was mostly just there to get Swiveller into the plot, and the I wasn't too taken with the rest of it, but it was lovely all the same. And yes. It was all quite good and beautiful.

The Hudsucker Proxy was mostly useful for putting off opening my presents, as mum had for some reason decided to work on Christmas Day. But it was fine anyway. My nephew Jack really enjoyed a lot of it, as you would expect, and we had a lot of fun. And now I am back at home in possession of Heroes Season 1, the first four series of Red Dwarf, a graphic novel of the Looking Glass Wars Volume 1: M. Hatter, the Hoosiers album, and a book about Angels. And some chocolate. I have to work tomorrow, which seems wrong, but then there's the rather lovely part that comes after Christmas, of trying to decide what to spend your Christmas money on. And checking Yuletide. And trying to catch up with your flist. Rah. I do have to go to bed for work though. Anyway, I hope you all had merry Christmasses, even if I didn't keep up with them. And I love you all. Merry Christmas.

I went down to the shop to get some toilet paper and saw a man on the corner looking out into the road and talking to himself, and it looked like foaming at the mouth. So I told the police. Hopefully that wasn't the wrong thing to do. They took my address and telephone number so they'll probably be around to tell me how bad it is making up stories to the police later.

Tonight I have a plan to finally set up the portable DVD player dad bought me last year. Or watch Drop the Dead Donkey. Both are good.

I got a bill from my internet provider people today, for £173! Bearing in mind that I got a bill last month for the line installation fee, which was £116. And, y'know, I might even half wonder if it was my fault, if I was on Broadband too often and downloading too much, if I wasn't being charged £139 for the period '21/05/2007 to 21/05/2007'. With line rental of £8.47 for next month. I would have already called up to sort it out except, like every other fucking human being on the planet as far as I can tell, their helpline people only work from 8.30am to 5.30pm. Which means I'm going to have to do it at work tomorrow, either at lunchtime when it'll probably be really busy, or when I'm supposed to be working. Growl.

I'm not entirely impressed.

I was thinking of going to see a film tonight, but the one I want to see isn't on till 9.30. And I should probably be saving myself for Pirates on Friday anyway. I went to see Magicians on Saturday though - personally, I enjoyed it. Keep your eyes peeled, and you might even see a clip of Rachael's Town(tm) (current town). That's right folks, it wasn't Jersey.

There are still six drabbles up for grabs, if anyone wants them. Otherwise I'm gonna have to start doubling up. And also:
