EMMERDALE!

OH GOD, EMMERDALE. OH GOD.
They did the thing I thought they were going to do, they had Matthew, who has been all unsympathetic to Carl, try to blackmail Jimmy into signing a contract for a business he wanted to sell off, by saying he’d go to the police about Carl if he didn’t. Jimmy called Carl into the office to tell him about it, and then told Matthew he’d drive him to the police station, if he meant it, because he wasn’t going to stand and be blackmailed, and Matthew went with him.
They got to the police station and Jimmy told Matthew to go then, if he was going, clearly thinking he wouldn’t, and Matthew was all teary in the eyes, and asked him if he got a kick out of torturing Carl. But Jimmy just told him to go, and Matthew looked at the police station, then at the road, and said “Drive us back”. HIS EYES WERE WET. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
But while that was happening, Carl – who they’d left alone in the office while they went off to call each other’s bluff – had disappeared somewhere, and Carrie (the one who shagged him when he was 14) ended up finding him, and he was just so self-hating and on the verge of confessing, when Jimmy ran up and was all “It’s alright. It’s alright. Matthew didn’t do it. He was never going to do it. It’s alright, Carl. It’s alright”. THIS IS PRACTICALLY VERBATIM.
And they went back to the office, and Matthew was there looking drawn, and he apologised to Carl, and Carl just said, “Why didn’t you do it? Maybe I should do it!” and headed for the door. And Matthew grabbed his arm and…he was so unsympathetic when Carl confessed to him. He made a big deal about how their dad had been awful to him and he never killed him, even when he broke up him and his girlfriend, and kept calling him ‘my dad’. And he just grabbed Carl by the arm and said “You do not deserve to go to jail for that manipulating bully!”. And oh God. And then he just sat him down, and put his head quite close to his, and talked about all the rubbish things their dad had done to him, and how he might have killed him that night, or one day, and wouldn’t have lost any sleep over it. Which is great, because in the ending where Matthew killed him he stops to finish his scotch afterwards, a bit like a supervillain. And Jimmy sat down and they all just talked about how awful their dad was (he really was), and that he would have probably pushed one of them to do it one day. Matthew said he played them off against each other. Though ‘That’s why we have pairings instead of threesomes’ was left out, obviously. And then Jimmy said “So where do we go now?”, and Matthew said “We understand each other”. AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. All this while Carl stared off into the self-hatey middle distance. BEAUTIFUL.
I LOVE THE KINGS. I LOVE EMMERDALE. I LOVE THEM. I LOVE THAT THEIR INCEST IS SO CLEAR. THOUGH SADLY OVER-AGE. THE CHAN IS CANON THOUGH. I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I love – that he’s called Carl. That’s a terrible reason to like a character, I know, but I LOVE IT. I love that they call him Carl. When they’re being all emotional and beautiful, it comes out all soft. IT’S BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I am SLIGHTLY GLAD I tape Emmerdale sometimes now, because DUDE! OH MY GOD.
And Val found Rodney giving Sharon a ‘paternal hug’, and was all “Guess what? It’s NOT PATERNAL!”, and it was great. I love Emmerdale.
KINGS FOR THE WIN.
Um. Yes.
