Christmas

I have been at my parents and EVEN WORSE AT LJ THAN USUAL. Hello. Mostly television won at being itself, and my family weren't as horrendous as it all could have been. Quite good actually. Ten games of Lunar Jim are alright, really. And there was Yule Log, which always improves things, really.

Anyway. Telly. OMG. First there was Sold )

And then there was Emmerdale. Oh my God, Emmerdale. Emmerdale )

And then there was other stuff. Last Sunday there was randomly a Big Fat Quiz on about Channel 4, with Jack Dee and Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell, which was lovely. On Christmas Eve there was a Comedy Connections about Red Dwarf, and then the first ever episode, and Christmas At The Riviera, which featured Reece Shearsmith running around with beautiful glasses on. Then there was the Hudsucker Proxy, which I'd never seen all the way through before, and about which there seems to be no slash. They put the Lemony Snicket movie on as a Christmas movie, and Dustin Hoffman turned up in it. Then on Boxing Day there was The Old Curiousity Shop, and Bryan Dick randomly appeared in that too. Derek Jacobi tried to tell him that he was a wastrel and a scoundrel, and he was all "Excuse me, I think you'll find I have a hat and a cane". He wasn't in it very much, he was mostly just there to get Swiveller into the plot, and the I wasn't too taken with the rest of it, but it was lovely all the same. And yes. It was all quite good and beautiful.

The Hudsucker Proxy was mostly useful for putting off opening my presents, as mum had for some reason decided to work on Christmas Day. But it was fine anyway. My nephew Jack really enjoyed a lot of it, as you would expect, and we had a lot of fun. And now I am back at home in possession of Heroes Season 1, the first four series of Red Dwarf, a graphic novel of the Looking Glass Wars Volume 1: M. Hatter, the Hoosiers album, and a book about Angels. And some chocolate. I have to work tomorrow, which seems wrong, but then there's the rather lovely part that comes after Christmas, of trying to decide what to spend your Christmas money on. And checking Yuletide. And trying to catch up with your flist. Rah. I do have to go to bed for work though. Anyway, I hope you all had merry Christmasses, even if I didn't keep up with them. And I love you all. Merry Christmas.

  • I came home to my parents for Christmas. Part of this involved slightly dodging probably the least pleasant friend I had in high school. And, mission achieved.

  • Sold ended a bit brilliantly. It's actually a bit annoying that I never got to watch an episode all the way through. I'd quite like the DVD, but unfortunately it doesn't exist.

  • Contemplating the new incest possibilities in Sold last night apparently led to a dream involving Harry Potter/James Potter.

  • After a few weeks of thinking that this would be the first year I wouldn't have given my parents a list of 'Christmas suggestions', and it would be quite interesting and refreshing to see what I got on Christmas day, my mother turned to me in the car last night and said "You didn't give us a list this year. Well, you'd better make one over the weekend". ??

  • I still love my nephew even if he is still a bit of a handful.

  • Freeport still wins a bit at discounts, occasionally. And Xscape at Castleford apparently does Christmas with 35ft snowmen.

Restored saved draft entitled: Some work ranting )

That was as far as I got on Thursday before I just ran out of time. But it turned out not to matter because my job finished yesterday. I've got a new one on Monday with the probation office. Which should be fun. They tried to pretend there was absolutely nothing strange about my position finishing, despite them having essentially promised me it until Christmas and having just taken on another new temp. But as I say, the work we were doing was finishing and J(2) had had the five-minute training for the next bit of work we were meant to be doing, which I guess not all of use needed to do. There's still every chance that they let me go because I was the slowest of the temps, but if so they kept the one that was lying on his timesheet, so hah. Anyway. New job on Monday. Which I can apparently walk to. This is only annoying because the agency apparently didn't tell them about the time I'd booked off over Christmas, so I'm going to have to organise it with the new company now, if they'll let me. Or there's the possibility that they'll shut down over Christmas, and I'll be out of more work. I'll have to find out on Monday.

Anyway. After attempting that post TV happened )

Last night, after getting my notice handed to me, I went to see the launch of an exhibition of K's, which was somewhere way out of the city and down a slightly scary dark street, but it turned out to be lovely. Basically she'd been selling off little spaces in a room in an art studio for artists to buy and fill any way they liked, and it was just like being in a miniature gallery. And some of the pieces were lovely. Occasionally I think I'm just impressed by bright colours, but some of it really was very good, though obviously too expensive to ever own. And there was an interactive work on the floor where you could rearrange houses on a white square into whatever design you liked. I wish I'd had my camera. And that it worked. That went on till nine, and there wasn't much food, but, y'know, there were mini mince pies. And after that, K and I ended up going to an 11 o'clock showing of Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium. Which was great. Spoilers )

Today was a bit mad, and annoying, and COLD ALL THE TIME COLD, but at least I got all my Christmas shopping done. Except that I would like to get something extra for my nephew. The new baby's coming in January, and he's attention-seeking at the best of times, so I wouldn't mind spoiling him a bit. But for the most part I'm done. Now it's about 11 o'clock and I'm going to try to put up my Christmas decorations, a week after my parents brought them. Rah.

ETA: Oh, also - I heard Livejournal was sold to a Russian company quite randomly last week. Do we know anything about them? Are they as bad as Six Apart? What?
