Today I went into PC World to look at Netbooks. I've been thinking about getting one for a bit, on and off. I noticed they had a much smaller selection than the last time I went in, and as far as I could tell they had a lot more Ultrabooks - which may well be the same thing, but they didn't bother calling them Netbooks. Maybe Netbooks are out of vogue at the moment.

But in any case, I was wandering around the rest of the store, since I don't go into computer shops very often. And I ended up in the "PC Accessories" aisle, which it turned out was where they put the special mice and keyboards for gaming. And...wow. I'm sure they're very useful for PC gamers, and for people who want to play console games on their PC - I had more than enough trouble trying to use my own mouse while playing Skyrim last year (the mouse used to turn the screen effectively when I played Morrowind, but NOT ANYMORE). But in this case I think the packaging sort of outdoes the product.

You probably think your mouse is pretty good, don't you? But why have a mouse when you could have a DEATHADDER? Or maybe the Deathadder's too flashy for you. How about an ABYSSUS? Not flashy enough? How about an IMPERATOR? Or the ever-popular OUROBOROS? THE POWER OF THE GODS COULD BE YOURS. IN MOUSE FORM.

Your keyboard, how's your keyboard working out for you? There's a good chance the BLACK WIDOW would work better. Or the more efficient (probably) NOSTROMO? Or the DEATHSTALKER?

And I bet under your non Deathadder, or Death-anything, mouse, you're just using a mouse mat, aren't you? Don't you know you could be using a MANTICOR? Or a GOLIATHUS? Or an INVICTA?

I don't mean to mock these accessories too much, because I kind of love them, and want them all. But it kind of seems like you wouldn't need the games once you had these mice and keyboards. It would be exciting enough just being around the GOLIATHUS AND IMPERATOR? WHO NEEDS FALLOUT OR MASS EFFECT? Man. PC Accessories have massively come on since the last time I paid any attention to them.

I do want to be a lighthouse keeper.

I was looking to see if there was such a thing as holidays in a lighthouse, and it turns out there totally is. Is it not beautiful? Quite expensive, and they seem to only do weekends, but if you had enough people staying, it wouldn't be that bad. Also, LIGHTHOUSE. LANTERN ROOM. Dude.

Christmas

I have been at my parents and EVEN WORSE AT LJ THAN USUAL. Hello. Mostly television won at being itself, and my family weren't as horrendous as it all could have been. Quite good actually. Ten games of Lunar Jim are alright, really. And there was Yule Log, which always improves things, really.

Anyway. Telly. OMG. First there was Sold )

And then there was Emmerdale. Oh my God, Emmerdale. Emmerdale )

And then there was other stuff. Last Sunday there was randomly a Big Fat Quiz on about Channel 4, with Jack Dee and Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell, which was lovely. On Christmas Eve there was a Comedy Connections about Red Dwarf, and then the first ever episode, and Christmas At The Riviera, which featured Reece Shearsmith running around with beautiful glasses on. Then there was the Hudsucker Proxy, which I'd never seen all the way through before, and about which there seems to be no slash. They put the Lemony Snicket movie on as a Christmas movie, and Dustin Hoffman turned up in it. Then on Boxing Day there was The Old Curiousity Shop, and Bryan Dick randomly appeared in that too. Derek Jacobi tried to tell him that he was a wastrel and a scoundrel, and he was all "Excuse me, I think you'll find I have a hat and a cane". He wasn't in it very much, he was mostly just there to get Swiveller into the plot, and the I wasn't too taken with the rest of it, but it was lovely all the same. And yes. It was all quite good and beautiful.

The Hudsucker Proxy was mostly useful for putting off opening my presents, as mum had for some reason decided to work on Christmas Day. But it was fine anyway. My nephew Jack really enjoyed a lot of it, as you would expect, and we had a lot of fun. And now I am back at home in possession of Heroes Season 1, the first four series of Red Dwarf, a graphic novel of the Looking Glass Wars Volume 1: M. Hatter, the Hoosiers album, and a book about Angels. And some chocolate. I have to work tomorrow, which seems wrong, but then there's the rather lovely part that comes after Christmas, of trying to decide what to spend your Christmas money on. And checking Yuletide. And trying to catch up with your flist. Rah. I do have to go to bed for work though. Anyway, I hope you all had merry Christmasses, even if I didn't keep up with them. And I love you all. Merry Christmas.

Cursed

BUT. One of the old dvds last night was Cursed, which I got a while ago, for being a rubbish werewolf movie with Milo Ventimiglia in it. And Christina Ricci. And OH. It was a bit beautiful. Spoilers )

Is LJ ever planning to sort out their no comments notification thing?
girlofprey: (Default)
Sorry, again, if anyone was spoiled by that comment or that link yesterday. I don't know where my brain was. Let's see if I can't do better tonight!

Heroes 2x04, 'The Kindness Of Strangers' )

And I'm spent.

I haven't talked much about Christmas, have I? It was good. We only had three or four hours of peace before my sister and nephew came over for the rest of the day, and oh God, he won't let me even go up to my room now. You have sneak out subtly like a ninja so he doesn't chase you, and even then after an hour or so, he notices something's amiss. Whoever it is. And then it's calling, calling your name (or an approximation thereof) at the top of his voice, till you come down and watch him chase the cats again. He is lovely though. He quite liked the wooden truck I bought him, and in a shock twist, Katie liked the Ugly Doll, whereas he preferred to cry over it and fling it across the room. Kids, eh?

Stuff )

I'm going to Lancaster for New Year's tomorrow, which is good. In a CHAMPAGNE AND SLASHERS! sort of a way. I still need to finish Yuletide, and I still need to read all my books, and I still need to tidy my room and stuff, but at least I've solved the murder of Tom King for this week. Dracula was on last night. It was - not the best bit of TV I have ever seen, but good. MARC WARREN IS A SEXY VAMPIRE. When he's not looking like a slightly ridiculous dark-haired pale-skinned guy. Harker was adorable, which I liked, and there was shoulder grasping. I choose to believe that Delusions that essentially reveal spoilers ) I sort of mostly want to see Marc Warren!Dracula crossovers with everything though. Especially other Mark Warren shows. Danny from Hustle meets modern day Dracula in London? Dracula versus Mr Teatime? The possibilities are endless!

Okay, just about to watch Dexter episode 2.

The title credits are very good.

Robin Hood 1.09. And 1.08 )

On Wednesday night I went round to a friend's to watch films (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - I forgot that Harry gets completely wasted on painkillers), and on Thursday night the router broke. And stayed broken last night. And now I'm willing to bet no-one's around, and I'll have to go back to playing with my CV. Damn it.

"Steve Irwin was once asked what his favourite childhood TV shows were. He said his favourite was Thunderbirds, but there'd always be a special place in his heart for Stingray"

Ah, the social post-mortem.

Anyway. Work totally GANGED UP ON ME today. I should have known that having less filing to do suddenly would eventually lead to having loads to do all at once. But I am daft, and enjoyed getting on with Northern Lights*. Managed to get it all done, partly by staying late because I had to, because dad wouldn't leave because I am dedicated. Apparently I get to edit more reports soon. Great. Except that it means I'll need to use the computer all day. And thus have the desk. Haha! Take that, fellow Copying Man!

I love Carl being the only King in Emmerdale. They put him in every storyline. I hope it goes on forever. Tonight he chased the male Dingles (rough, poor, hilarious types) into the woods where they were poaching, and they just touched his chest and offered him a drink. It's alright though because he's practically one of the family, and they wouldn't "do" one of their own. Which is probably why I can't get my smoking hot Cain/Chastity pairing kickstarted. At least the Kings have no such policy. (Though they haven't made anyone a mind-reading ninja either. Woe.)

Emmerdale is great. So are sultana scones, one of which I've just had. And so is [livejournal.com profile] calapine, who is giving me Babylon 5 season 1. So I can possibly have a faked television orgasm of my very own. I think maybe I win a little bit :)

*To which my general response is mostly 'Oh God, Lyra!'/::weeps::

ETA: Um, I can apparently track things now.

LJ might come to regret giving me this power.

I'm on the internet for proper work-type reasons, but I'd just like to say:

If any of you aren't watching Suburban Shootout, your lives are devoid of meaning. DEVIOD I SAY!
girlofprey: (Ghosts Haunt Same House)
Home again, home again. Jiggety jig. Internet, yay! Hopefully it will not prove too distracting. Already I am hours on the internet DOING NOTHING!

I have pretty much done one of my essays. Apart from the fact that there is still one more paragraph I want to write and simply am not doing, and it is 3,700 words and counting and should only be 3,000, and I haven't done all of my footnotes yet, which are also counted in the wordcount. And I'm not sure I've actually said anything of particular use or question-answering-ness. But it is mostly done. So I have only 3 more to do now. I think I will be reading this week, and then start writing after Christmas. Yes.

Victim of credit fraud! Omg! )

My flatmates and I had House Christmas yesterday. I did not go to bed until 4am (the suicide hour! I did not commit suicide. I think I should have a badge). We had a lovely ham, and lovely gravy, and parsnips and yule log and After Eight mints. And my flatmate, who had already bought me a Bad Girls Guide calender weeks before and given it to me because I'd had a shit day, had bought me a beautiful handheld mirror from Oxfam which I'd noticed and mentioned and mourned when it was gone the next day! Am love on her! Also we played Atmosfear and I BEAT THE GATEKEEPER!!! With some cheating I think. But still. Colour me victorious :) And we played charades until long into the night/morning, and I did a very good Napoleon. It was all very good.

Things which make me happy:

  • The Philadelphia Story slash! Connor/C.K. Dexter Haven! With drunkeness and you-read-my-book! and everything it always should have been, Jimmy Stewart eeee...

  • Blackpool slash! Which made me feel like I know the characters inside-out with a mere this and brief show overview found on virgin.net. And was scaldingly hot besides. Detective Inspector Tennant, omg. I must watch Blackpool now. Must watch.

  • I am insanely jealous of all my friends who got to see Barty Crouch Jr DI Carlisle Tenth Doctor YOU KNOW WHO cook and be lovely. Omg ::hates::

  • I ordered my CD from [livejournal.com profile] draco_malfoys! :D Which an e-mail to tell me they hadn't got a billing address from Paypal told me will be sent out between today and Monday. Hopefully shipping will be Short and Sweet and I will have it before I go back to Nottingham.

  • I am reading House of Leaves. I have an icon I think is suiting. I read extracts for my Mythologies module and fell in love and am going to try to read it all this week along with my reading for two other essays so I can write my Rewriting Myth essay on it. I am not sure what this will say, but House of Leaves omg. I love it and fear it. I fear my walls. Like, all the time. The thing about House of Leaves is that it makes you fear your walls whether they shift or not. Time will tell what all this will do to my brain.

  • Internet, yay!

  • Dad took me to Pizza Hut for dinner, and the waitress got a piece of my pizza on her shirt, and went off to get me 'another slice', and I ended up taking a free pizza home! Even though it was not cooked to beautiful browness, and stone cold by the time I got it home. Still - score!

  • I went to see King Kong!

King Kong spoilers )

Sigh. There is a community. Which welcomes slash. I watch it with interest. Yes.

Sister just wandered into my room - as she is wont to do - looked around at my stuff, then asked if she could have my Harry Potter and the Blood Prince when I was finished with it. I hesitated - she has a tendency to make my nice, well-kept things less nice and well-kept - but said yes. Puzzled, I asked if she had read any of the others. She replied that she didn't want to read it, but it was a first edition and would be worth a lot of money one day.

:0

I quickly took back my offer.
