Because apparently my weird image-specific Google links in a comment to [livejournal.com profile] jekesta ETA: aren't working.

Suffice it to say, if I was designing a wedding dress for Kate of William and Kate, it would probably be a mixture of all these:

(from fashionbinge.blogspot.com)

Amazingness and also a hat.

(from foodiegadgets.com)

Cream puff pastry or possibly Ferrero Rocher theme.

(from chicagonow.com)

Lights.

(from offbeatbride.com)

And rainbows.

And diamonds. Possibly a tiara with diamonds shaped like icicles on it, for when she takes off her hat. And gold shoes.

Also, peacock dresses got mentioned, and this is the one I found:

(from somethingamazing.blogspot.com)

It's kind of amazing, and very long.

Things that are great:

  • [livejournal.com profile] cakesy wrote me fic. She wrote me AMAZING fic. Oh my god.

  • My The Other Guys DVD came! Woo! On a related note, it's really a shame when you have a film you quite love, and most of the quotes on the DVD case are from The Sun or the News Of The World. Currently this is true of both The Other Guys and New Town Killers. But happily not Sharkwater, which is also on my desk. I'm assuming that the other dvds used the Sun and News Of The World quotes because they LOVED them and gave them five star reviews, whereas other reviews from better sources were slightly less glowing. Hopefully. I still love them despite The Sun though.

  • I found a new animal to go on my Animals That Aren't As Bad As Popular Culture Would Have You Believe list: vultures! I was watching Zoo Days on Fiver yesterday, and a bit about Colchester Zoo's vultures came on, and it was all about how friendly and inquisitive they were, hopping around to see what everyone was doing and nibbling things to see what they were. The whole episode is actually on Youtube here, with the vulture bit starting at around 12.49. It's sponspored by Five and after the break, so you have to put up with a few stupid adverts. But it's worth it if you like LOVE. My favourite bit is probably when the keeper assures the camera people that they're not in any danger because vultures "don't have the power to kill". Or the bit with the vulture that thinks he's a human. Oh.

ETA: After trying that youtube link and trying to get to the bit I'm talking about for the past ten minutes or so it's mostly just not working and making me cry, so I won't judge you at all if you try the link and then give up. I'm not ordering you to watch it. I won't hate you if you don't. Except that I'll probably hate you a little bit for not going through what I've been through. But mostly not.

  • The welovehollyoaks.com December Brendanwatch is up. I will back soon. I am currently dead.

This is an entry I've been wanting to do for a while. A while back, [livejournal.com profile] jekesta (at least) did a "Top 5 Favourite Vids" meme. This would be quite impossible to choose, though it would involve the Rama Lama Bang Bang vid and at least one of the Sea of Souls vids Jekesta made. So I'm going to do something a bit more manageable - My top 5 favourite "Holding Out For A Hero" vids!

My Top 5 "Holding Out For a Hero" Vids

  1. Star Trek Voyager. I won't say it was the first. The first was the one in my head of Sawyer from Lost, with shots of him running and swimming and making masts and OH THE IRONY. But this was the first one that showed me what was actually out there on the net, if I bothered to look. I love it so much. I never really even watched that much Voyager. I mostly didn't know who Seven of Nine was. But I love Janeway. I love Seven of Nine. I love them together. They are great. Oh. Spoilers for the vid )

  2. Alien Resurrection. I judge it slightly for not being to the Bonnie Tyler version. But other than that it is great. Ripley is so the person you'd want popping up if you needed a hero. I love this vid quite a lot.

  3. All action heroes pretty much ever. I love this vid for taking the lyrics QUITE LITERALLY. And deciding that masses of violence is what this songvid probably needs. Spoilers for vid )

  4. The rest are tricky. The problem with seeing some great Holding Out For A Hero vids is that you become critical of the rest. I judge vids that show clips of the "hero" before the first 'I need a hero!'. I judge vids that do not have another/the other characters looking sort of sad and forlorn until that point in the vid. I sort of judge vids that do not use the Bonnie Tyler version of the song. I judge vids that do not have actual reaching at the 'Some were reaching back for me' part. A lot of vids just seem sort of rub compared to 1, 2 and 3. But I recently found a Life on Mars one. Which is great. Much like Gene. Slight spoilers for the vid ).

  5. And the last place is a bit of a tie. At the moment I love the Brothers Grimm and love that this vid exists, but it does seem to be a lot of long clips from the movie, which don't always fit with the lyrics. So hmm. But yay. And then there's the Stargate Atlantis one, which takes ages to load. Mostly I love it because it has a lot of running and jumping in it, I think. Also I like the way Rodney looks at the gun in one clip, although I don't know why. It makes me slightly sad I never watched the show, although it's quite possible that's just the effect of the vid/song. Oh I love Holding Out For A Hero. It's great.

That is my list. Rah. Mostly I think every fandom should have a Holding Out For A Hero vid. I think it would improve things by quite a lot.

Soon all my icons will be by Cleolinda.

I went to see The Princess Bride at the Broadway today, and it turned out to be a great plan. Even if it was packed, and I did feel a bit guilty about not shifting up so people in pairs could sit together near the middle. The film )

I had a plan tonight to stay in and do some cleaning - the flat's being inspected on Monday, so I have to do some at some point. However I'm probably going to go watch the Painted Veil instead. Because it has Edward Norton in braces, being a doctor in 1920s China, married to a woman who thinks she hates him but turns out to not do that so much by the end of the film. And that's a whole bunch of kinks right there. I do need to do some food shopping at some point. Remind me.
girlofprey: (Jurassic Park Mathematician Rockstar)
Jurassic Park is on! I'd forgotten about Jeff Goldblum the rockstar mathematician. Who mostly lays around with his shirt open. There's no-one decent to slash him with. The old man is annoying, and I think Samuel L Jackson is getting sick of the motherfucking dinosaurs in the motherfucking park. OH GOD SHE JUST TURNED THE FENCES ON! The fool!

Mostly I keep remembering lines from the Movies in 15 Minutes parody. And Futurama. SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR PETS.

I love the wireless internet :)
girlofprey: (Futurama Gay Weather Balloon)
On the twelfth day of Christmas, girlofprey sent to me...
Twelve cherries drumming
Eleven assassins piping
Ten fables a-leaping
Nine wolves dancing
Eight witches a-milking
Seven books a-swimming
Six connotations a-laying
Five ni-i-i-icholas burns
Four unlikely rentboys
Three indie flicks
Two rubbish superheroes
...and a dv8 in an adrien brody.
Get your own Twelve Days:

I like number four.

And I do want to post Nerdcakes', just for five )

I did a thing a few weeks ago where I woke up before my alarm went off, in the dark, and thought I may as well start getting ready. I got up, brushed my hair and put on a dressing gown before realising my alarm still hadn't gone off, checked the time, and realised it was ten to 2.

Last night I did it three times. I think the stress might be getting to me.

Tonight I'm planning to go to the cinema, without my friend. Because I do want to see the film, damn it, and while socialising would be nice, and there's probably a hundred other things I should be doing with my time, getting out of the house occasionally does feel a bit like its win.

Sacha Baron Cohen/Johnny Depp/Jack Davenport also seems like a good idea.
girlofprey: (Futurama Galaxy Cracking Wise)
[livejournal.com profile] calapine sent me Babylon 5 videos. She is win. I am quite looking forward to watching them at...some point. But maybe not anytime soon. I dance her anyway, though. John Barrowman is on Never Mind the Buzzcocks tonight, by the way, in case you didn't know.

I need to get a move on with writing/editing my CV, and y'know, sending it to places, but mostly haven't been doing that. I will though. Editing short, pithy statements about my "skills" may not be much motivation for getting through a day of filing, but moving out and going back to Nottingham DEFINITELY IS. I hope I will have the internet in the place I'll presumably be moving into. It's a slight constant worry to me that I sort of won't.

Also a TV. Life on Mars series 2 will be starting around January, I think.

I have quite a lot to do, really. Christmas shopping. Writing my Yuletide fic. Looking at jobs/flats. K is coming with me to the Green Wing convention, so at least that's sorted. Apparently I need to send off a form now telling the SLC how I'll be paying my Student Loan back. Which is slightly worrying. I thought they just sort of took it when you were earning enough. I now need to say whether I'll be employed or unemployed over the next 12 months. I don't think 'um' is going to cover it.

Mostly I'm in love with Guy of Gisbourne at the moment. As far as I can tell, it was caused by a dream I had about him in which I basically just wanted to rescue and hug him. It's quite pleasant, but often distracting. We'll pretend I totally didn't just buy the first DVD for the sake of being able to watch him on a regular basis. Other than on TV. Yes. Apparently this week the outlaws will regret crossing him after uncovering 'a terrible secret'. All that sex with the Sheriff? Who's to say what that might be?
girlofprey: (Default)
Sometimes I worry that I'm not properly fannish enough. But icons containing Logan Echolls still make me slightly shaky, just thinking of 'Carry on my wayward son' in Supernatural makes me feel a bit like crying, and I just got a warm glow from Carl King insisting on buying the family's tough old lady secretary's biscuits and then offering her a lift back to the office. So I think I get to keep my badge for another day :)

I got The Prisoner for £19.99 at Virgin today. Just when I thought I was running out of TV to watch. For some reason I don't feel like getting into Carnivale just yet, and this is much more pleasing. Top hats and bubble-punching all round.
girlofprey: (R for raygun)
Hello! I am here. And in Nottingham. Which is here. Yes. Hurrah!

We have no internet yet, but Jos has sorted it and it is apparently coming in 10-12 days (though I've fallen for that trap before). At the moment I am on the uni computers, since the computer rooms are all thankfully open for International Week. But when ours comes it will apparently be wireless and cost a mere £10 a month, and in doing it we have ended up with a nearly free phoneline, for which Jos bought a phone, so now we have a phone! I will, if you like, give you my phone number. And my mobile perhaps. And then you can call me, or I can call you. And say 'hello!'

I am mostly loving my new house. My room is the smallest, but I still prefer it to all other rooms, even if I can't quite plug my printer in with my other computer things properly. But it's not working anyway, so I'm not that bothered. Also I have no bedding, since I only have the one set from home and they need washing. So I'm sleeping in a sleeping bag, and I love it so much I may do it forever, and just make the bed up for when mum and dad come around, so they don't cry. I have not managed to take a shower in the bathroom yet or cook in the kitchen (I ordered pizza with money I don't have! Hurray!). But Kathy and Jos are here, and we watched Flight of Dragons on my televideo, and Jos will never doubt our recommendations again, and I've got them both to close the toilet seat when they flush so we don't get bacterial spray on the toothbrushes, and it's just generally very good.

In the absence of getting Kathy a ticket to Serenity (tonight, yay!), I took her to the press showing of Land of the Dead. Spoilers )

Am trying to get sorted for Connotations. I think I have enough money to pay the rest of the hotel, which should be done within five days of going, was it? I had a dream last night that I didn't do it in time and had to leave after the first evening. I think. Also [livejournal.com profile] tiniago was there in a red dress, holding a young baby. But she looked about 35 so I don't think it's my psychic powers at work. Also attempting to get a train ticket to go with my student railcard, but there's something about having to change somewhere and Virgin changing their fares, so I have a number to call ::not worried about this at all...:: I think I can get there for 12 on Friday though. It'ssocloseomghurrah!!

See you soon ;D
girlofprey: (R for raygun)
Well, we've booked a holiday. A weekend, in the end, and perhaps more, but my sister is having things delivered in the middle of the first week, which screws things up a bit. So we are going for the first weekend of my parents' two-week holiday time. To Centre Parks. The one in Sherwood Forest. That's right people, for my final, last-ditch holiday with the family before I go back to Nottingham, I am going to - Nottingham!! My flatmates are going to have a ball with this.

It looks interesting enough though. I always wanted to go to Centre Parks when I was younger. You get a 'lodge' in the forest, and probably there will be birds and squirrels and deer and such. And you can order hampers to be there when you arrive, which is nice. And there are lots of activities, like climbing and paintballing and clay pigeon shooting and fencing. All of which cost about £200. And my mother has made noises to the effect that she and dad are paying for the holiday and the food, so we should pay for our own activities, which is fair enough, but...saving for uni! I have tried to explain this with my eyes, but to no avail. Mope. Weekend of cycling and perhaps walking here I come!

In other news, if you like Family Guy, or A-Ha, or just to laugh, you should all go look at this. All of you. Everywhere. I feel slightly bad, because I get all my links to interesting things are from links in other people's journals - I am really no good at this internet thing - and I'm sure you've all seen it before, or I'm stealing love from the original person's journal, but some of you won't see it there, so I'm really just spreading the love and YES.

Also, I appear to have scared lots of people with a comment over in [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes' journal. Excellent.
girlofprey: (R for raygun - sandintheglass)
That time of the month yesterday. I was in so much pain. Mostly I laid down and didn't move. My sister thinks I should start taking Codeine for it all. I think Hmm. But I can put off buying a new swimming costume for a while, I think.

Almost finished 1984. Potential spoilers )

Today, went into town with mother today, and it was lovely, if a bit cold. We passed travel shops, and she made suggestions of taking a few days of work at some point so she and I - just she and I - could go on a trip, say to Brighton or Rome or Prague. I responded with interest and joy. It is not Cuba, but hurrah all the same!

If any of you want to go to Cuba with me, I am essentially already on the plane. Right now if needs be. I am so not kidding.

Anyway, we had burgers in our town's nicest cafe hurrah, and bought things. There was a new Total Film out, which was a nice suprise. They are remaking The Hitcher apparently. I have no words. I was tempted by a 'Cultural History of Russia' book, but decided against it. Someday I will write you a list of books I own but have not read. It is horrendous. Also got Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on DVD because it was £10, as opposed to the shocking £17 other shops try to charge. I am a whore for the pretty yes. Ah well. Ooh, and Betty Boop socks. There were Harry Potter scarves in WH Smith's, but only Gryffindor, so I left them where they lay. Slytherin would have been a different matter. But they were not Slytherin. So hmph.

Asked a few places about work as well, but no luck :( Although I'm holding out some hope for work at the local museum and castle - even voluntary would probably be interesting, and look decent on a CV ::holds out some hope::

Went into the library as well to ask, and perused their CDs for rental. Tori Amos! Nick Cave! For only a pound! Think I will be going back, perhaps, yes :D

I want to see Veronica Mars now. Even though I know quite a few huge season spoilers. Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto!

Anyway. Town Liquorice Festival starts tomorrow. Medieval day at the castle - hawking and handcrafts and crystals, oh my. I am a vat of barely contained yay. Hurrah :)
