Gay love all round!
Aug. 31st, 2008 08:47 pmOther things that are good:
1) A Batman/Joker vid that's actually good (FYI, it's the animated series).
2) Being Human. Oh my god. Being Human, which I didn't hear about when people were first squeeing about it, and which I probably wouldn't have known about if
jekesta hadn't told me at Orbital. Oh my god. WHY DIDN'T THEY MAKE IT A SERIES? Who precisely thought werewolf + vampire In A House was a BAD PLAN? Oh my god Mitchell. Oh my god George. Oh my god buying throws and cushions. The girl was a bit annoying. Most of the girls were a bit annoying, or In Danger. But oh my god dudes, wow. They set it up all great. And now they won't finish it! WHAT'S UP WITH THAT, BBC?

Oh Rattigan!
Jul. 7th, 2008 07:19 pmRattigan vids!
I Can Change
Oh Rattigan!
Oh Rattigan, everyone hates you but me. Rattigan!love appears to be what I have mostly taken away from the Doctor Who finale. Well done me.
I'm going to Cornwall next week. I'm going to miss a number of things, including
jekesta's birthday. I WILL TOTALLY BE THINKING OF YOU. Mostly money is not forthcoming since I just paid the rent and a bunch of other bills, and I need to save up. I might have taken £20 out of my savings account to buy the Doctor Who DVD with the two Sontaran episodes on which just came out. Maybe. Also I got some sandals. For beach wearing.
It looks like the Probation Office, who have someone else to fill my place after Friday, might be thinking about offering me work in another office though, which would be nice. I know the work at least, and some of the people, and it would be nice to have some work in place for when I get back. For money expenses and stuff.
There were THUNDERSTORMS yesterday. I did a lot of cowering at the edges of the town square, along with everyone else. It was sort of swish.

Apr. 28th, 2008 06:23 pmI've only ever seen a few episodes of Dexter. I don't know that much about it. But still, I knew this vid had to exist.
I can't believe Iron Man is out this Friday. Or Thursday. Iron Man is that start of the summer film season. A few weeks after that it's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Then it's June and almost time for the new Narnia one, Prince Caspian, and Wanted, which looks a bit wanky but still quite cool. Then it will be practically July, when there is Hancock, which has Jason Bateman in it, and then Batman Begins: The Dark Knight. I am so ready to see The Dark Knight it's unreal. If it was on now, I would be there. But alas, three more months. And then it will be August, and the new Hellboy film. ( ETA: Possible casting spoiler ), but might have George Bluth again. And that's not mentioning all the little films that will be out in between those, and I'm not sure this whole not having a Cineworld Unlimited card is going to work. Maybe I can befriend the ushers or something.
This week I have to pay a water bill, my rent, my council tax and get a new bus pass. And I'm pretty sure some other cheques for £100 (in total) haven't gone out yet. Eek.
Also, it turns out the Sweet not only did Blockbuster, they also did what might be the original version of Wig Wam Bam. Well done them.

Right. A quick review.
- Last week, I went to see Lars and the Real Girl, which is a great film, and apparently not being shown many places. Possibly because it's about a guy falling in love with a sex doll. Except that he doesn't think she's a sex doll, he thinks she's real, and everyone (on the advice of the town doctor) has to go along with it, until he's worked out his issues. It's really a very beautiful film, and Ryan Gosling plays the main character and is pretty great. I would highly recommend it.
- My parents then came to Nottingham on Saturday to take my nephew and me to a play made especially for 3-4 year olds, which was actually really good. It was basically about a "girl" going to sleep, and keeping on going into this dream world of mirrors and lights. It was very well performed. I think my nephew enjoyed it. Then we all went back to my parents' town and went out for a meal for my birthday the next day, which was nice.
- Thank you to all the people who wished me a happy birthday as well. I was a bit rubbish at replying. Thanks.
- I also saw 27 Dresses this week, which is a great film. ( My thoughts )
- Diamonds are For...Trevor
I sort of hope there is no character in the new, apparently a bit gay, Bond film called Trevor, because if so that's the best headline the Sun's ever come up with, ever. - I may have, possibly, to celebrate and because I had a bit of money from my birthday, ordered all the books I could find on Amazon from Adrienne Martine-Barnes' Sword series, the first of which I read when I was about 10. The first one and the one I was most excited about, The Rainbow Sword, arrived yesterday. I imagine it fights for the honour of the LGBT everywhere. It has the most beautiful cover I've ever seen also. The second one, The Crystal Sword, came today and sadly smells a lot of cigarettes, but appears to be about the son of the main character from the first novel, who wishes he could have adventures like his mother, which is GREAT. I love them so much. Magic swords will save the world. I'm pretty sure.
- I still do love the Heroes Peter Can Do Anything Better Than You vid. And I quite like this Claire+Niki+Jessica one. Although I think it's a shame no-one's done a Niki/Jessica one to Material Girl.
- I got to wander around a pre-renovated set of artist's studios based in an old police station that was still a bit infested with pigeons on Wednesday. And yesterday I may have applied for a permanent job at the Broadway cinema. My application form was written pretty much in one night and may be mostly waffle, but I'm waiting to see how it pans out. It would be nice to get it. Very nice.
- I started watching Dirty Sexy Money last week, and got to see the first episode - on during some panel at Orbital - on Saturday. It's quite great. It's about a lawyer (Peter Krause) who works for a large, rich, and quite corrupt family in New York because his father did it and the head of the family pays him a lot of money to do charity work with. Also he thinks one of the family might have killed his father. Mostly I'm shipping Peter Krause (aka Nick) with the brother who shouts at him (aka Brian). And I love Peter Krause/Nick, but Brian Darling is slightly the best thing ever. ( Spoilers up to episode 3 )
- I might have got all my icons back. Possibly.
Not that I think any of you would ever commit a crime, or are future criminals-in-the-making, or anything, but you know, just in case you are, or do:
Ways to please your Probation Office receptionist:
Top five most annoying questions:
Anyway. I was going to make a post or say something about how the vids on imeem.com seem to be of a slightly better quality than some of the ones on Youtube, although maybe I'm just looking at a particular few of them. But then I found this video and just wanted to post it because it contains some of the prettiest things I've ever seen.
Ways to please your Probation Office receptionist:
- Don't bring your kids in. This is the number one thing you can do to make a Probation Office receptionist happy. If you do not bring your kids in, maybe you can mention it when you come to the desk. I guarantee it will please them beyond measure. When you do, we have to start worrying about high risk paedophiles coming in and waiting in the same room with them. And that isn't much fun. Do not let your kids run around screaming at the top of their voices and annoying the quite possibly already annoyed other clients. Do not bring in a huge pram and position it in front of the reception desk so people can't get to it. Do not leave your children alone in reception, on the other side of a locked security door from you. Just don't do it.
- State your name first of all when you get to the desk. This is pretty much the number one most important thing you can tell a receptionist. I can almost guarantee they won't have been given a list of all the probation officer's appointments. The best way they can find out who you're actually meant to be seeing is to check your record on the computer, for that they need your name. And they probably need it spelt out, so they don't have to check your birthdate matches up to one. Do not say who you think you're seeing and when very clearly, and then turn your head and mumble when it comes to your name. Do not give your name as "Mr _____". Or as "Mr A. ______". Please just give your name.
- Do not come up to the desk a few minutes after signing in to ask "Have you called him/her yet?", especially if it's been really busy. We don't like that.
- Do not come up to the desk early or late and explain at length why you are early or late, and ask if the receptionist can get your probation officer to see you now please, or to see you early. This is not in the receptionist's power. If you explain something briefly we can pass it on, if the probation officer's still in the building. That's about it.
- Do not, if a probation officer who booked an appointment with you is not in the building when you've come on time meaning that you have to see a duty officer, ask the receptionist why your probation officer booked an appointment with you if they weren't going to be in. The receptionist doesn't know.
- Do not, if you've come late, get annoyed with the receptionist for not making the person seeing you come down straight away. Not really our problem.
- Do not ask the receptionist if, having missed an appointment and not being willing to wait until someone is free to see you now you've come in late, ask if you're not turning up means you will be breached or recalled, or what a breach or recall means. They are a receptionist. Probably they won't know the ins and outs of the system.
- Don't come in drunk. That's a big one.
- Don't ask, if you leave without seeing a probation officer, if the probation officer could see you later in the week. We don't know that, or really have the authority to say.
- Do not call up the reception to say you're a bit late but will be a minute, two minutes, can we just pass the message on. Do not call the reception saying you have no credit, can we just take a message quickly and get someone to call you back. Do not text the reception landline. You have to speak to your probation officer, and a probation office reception can get quite busy. Also don't make reverse charge phonecalls. We hate that.
Top five most annoying questions:
- "How long will he/she be?" - We don't know.
- "Can you call him/her straight away please?" - No.
- "Can I have a glass of water? Actually, can I have two please?" - Grrrr.
- "If he/she's not there, can you go and find him/her?" - No.
- "What are you doing/playing/reading?" - sdlkfjksdj.
Anyway. I was going to make a post or say something about how the vids on imeem.com seem to be of a slightly better quality than some of the ones on Youtube, although maybe I'm just looking at a particular few of them. But then I found this video and just wanted to post it because it contains some of the prettiest things I've ever seen.
Earthquake!
Feb. 27th, 2008 08:05 pmI got earthquaked last night. Since I was in bed when I felt the last one a few years ago and knew what it was, I mostly thought "Earthquake, whee!". It did feel a bit precarious, my bed being off the floor and the windows rattling for a good 30 seconds. But interesting. My radio and the local newspaper are arguing over whether it was the biggest quake in 25 or 250 years. That's rather a sad state of news affairs.
( Random rambling about No Country For Old Men )
1) There's a person who apparently wants Llewellyn/Anton slash and likes Arrested Development. SHE'S LIKE MY PEOPLE.
2) I knew it had to exist somewhere. I KNEW it.

Vid recs:
There's a rather good Torchwood Owen vidlet here: He's a Terrible Person
And quite a good Toshiko one here: A Floorplan
I had a terrible day today. The other guy I'm on reception with wasn't feeling well, so I tried to take a lot of the work, and I spent my lunchtime getting alternately chewed out by offenders who didn't have the appointments they thought they did and the staff. Hmph. Still. It's over now.

- I forgot to mention the funniest part of my going home for Christmas. We always get quite decorated up for Christmas, because mum likes it. So we have light-up Christmas shapes in all the windows, Santa signs outside, the lit-up Christmas tree in the front window. From the outside, it all looks quite nice. Anyway, mum was telling me that the week before I came back, one evening she heard carol singers come to the front door. And she thought "Oh, carol singers", and started looking around for some change. When suddenly from the other room she heard some banging, like someone jumping up. And then my dad shouting "GO ON! GET AWAY! COME BACK WHEN IT'S CHRISTMAS!". He has a thing about children coming round early, like trick-or-treating before Halloween. Apparently the carol singers ran away. My mum had to point out to him that it was in fact going to be Christmas next week, which I think he hadn't realised. People who think their dads are strange, I can only say: NOT AS STRANGE AS MINE.
- I also fell quite in love with Adele's new song while I was at my parents', and the video. ETA: I don't know why the girl was dating Sylar for a while there though.
- Last weekend was more manic than I could possibly say. I saw three films in two days, two of which were the new St Trinian's one, which I enjoyed. I'm possibly a bit in love with Camilla Fritton. K was down for the weekend, and when we were out on Saturday night wanted to do something sitting down, and there was nothing else we wanted to see on, and I did enjoy it when I saw it on Friday. So. The other film was Fred Claus, which was magically back on last week after going off the week before, and I totally got to the one 10:30am showing a day, a mere twenty minutes late. Except that it turned out to be the one 11:30am showing. Anyway, it turns out that Vince Vaughn: still beautiful. But I got quite stressed out over the weekend, to the point of sort of wanting to push other shoppers as they went past me. On Sunday night I remembered I was about due to have a period, and probably this had something to do with it.
- I considered taking Monday off work sick, but decided against it. On Monday night I went to my first dentist appointment in about three years, and that was suprisingly quite nice. It turns out that three years of eating quite a lot crap has apparently not affected my teeth too much, although they're still not great. And the bits I was worried about, the bits I could feel worn down on my front teeth, are apparently perfectly normal. My wisdom are doing something a bit funny, but generally things are fine. There was some extortion at the end, but other than that it was all quite pleasant. Hurrah.
- On Tuesday, after failing to get to bed at a reasonable hour AGAIN I did take the day off sick, and stayed in to clean the flat, and ended up having a two and a half hour conversation with my mother when she called. Which was nice. Did get the flat a bit tidier. Since then have been mostly working and making sure I go to bed earlier. Friday night involved Mr and Mrs Smith, which was quite good, and I liked Brad Pitt in it a lot more than I thought I would.
- I think people should know that on Friday I read
ironicdutchess' journal at work, and it was perfectly fine. Then I went to read
nerdcakes', and got an Adult Content warning. Which wanted me to confirm I was over 14. Dude.
- I had some thoughts and reasons why I thought part of my being stressed out was to do with Alias season 2, but it essentially boils down to OMG SYDNEY YOU SUCK, YOU ARE NOT IN ANY WAY GOOD ENOUGH FOR JACK. Also, WILL STOP BEING BORING, POSSIBLY TURN OUT TO HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED A BIT, WHICH JACK HAS TO FIX?
Things which are annoying me right now:
- See above.
- People who come to the Probation office and get impatient with me trying to get their name right through a not too great microphone. I need to to get your details correctly on the computer and check who you're actually meant to be seeing for your appointment. I'm sorry you're a felon. BUT THIS IS NOT A VACATION.
- People in the Probation Office who make appointments with their clients but don't put it on the system, so I don't know what's going on.
- There is no central heating in my flat. Everything is done off storage heaters, and the hot water comes through a boiler. You can do things with timing but generally your choices are between freezing and boiling. I've taken a number of showers lately that have gone cold in the middle. I've spent most of the last few weeks being in love with my duvet, my hot water bottle, my jumper and my hairdryer, not necessarily in that order or exclusively.
On the other hand:
- It randomly and vaguely occured to me that Sawyer and Sayid would be the best Gay FBI Lovers I'd ever seen.
- It turns out that Green and Black's Mint bar is quite nice. It's like a big bar of After 8.
- The (gay) writer of Disturbia said in an interview that there was absolutely nothing homoerotic in it, there was in his next film but not in this one. I found this interview while looking around for Kale/Turner slash, and just before finding someone's review where they said Kale was totally gay for his best friend.
Best of 2007, start of 2008
Jan. 1st, 2008 03:01 pmI was going to do a little fannish review bit at the end of the entry last night, but didn't have enough time. However, some things are just to lovely to let go past.

People are also doing Resolutions. My Resolutions for 2008 are:
Once again, Happy New Year!

People are also doing Resolutions. My Resolutions for 2008 are:
- To get a permanent job.
- To take more pictures, which now I've got some not-actually-that-expensive batteries for my digital camera should be easier.
- To go see War and Peace at the Nottingham Playhouse. Because a day full of theatre seems quite win. Also to see James, Son of James at some point.
Once again, Happy New Year!
Heroes speculation, and work (mostly)
Nov. 7th, 2007 06:54 pmI was watching Coronation Street at the weekend, and suddenly started seeing possible Sarah/David incest. Which was unexpected.
( Theory and spec about Heroes season 2, spoilers up to 2.07 )
God, people really do make some awesome vids. Rama Lama Bang Bang by counteragent. Angel/Dr Who. Lilah and Yvonne: two hardworking, professional zombies with lots of spunk and heart. Might need to get that song somewhere.
In other news, I have work for tomorrow. I have to be there at 8:30, but hey - work! Hopefully which will last, or be replaced by other work. So I can get a slightly better handle on my cash. The only unfortunate part is that I haven't done any of the cleaning I said I was going to do with my few days off. But I did spend most of today curled into a ball trying to ward off stomach cramps. Anyway. There's always the weekend. I need to fix the light in the bathroom as well. But work! Now I just need to find out where it is.

Oct. 25th, 2007 06:38 pm- Gosh.
- Suburban Shootout vid, yay!
( Heroes 2x05 )
Mostly I have been watching Carnivale, and pointedly staying away from anything on the internet that might give away the ending. I love it quite a bit, even if it has some dodgy gender issues. The female characters are quite beautiful though.
Also I started my new job at the University on Monday, which is fine. It's quite dull. Mostly I am sitting at a computer at the moment and typing up feedback sheets from students about their seminars. Some of which are admittedly hilarious. I like it when they use capital letters. But it still gets a bit wearing when you have to do it for 4 hours. However - as you can imagine, this involves me being on the computer a lot. As it turns out there's not much physical filing to do. But no computer in the admin room where I'm working has been without some problem since I've been working there, and my main one is that even though I've been given a password and a login, when I try to use them the computer asks me for a workstation password, which I don't have. And my Uni password and login don't work. And the temporary password and login an IT guy set up for me doesn't work. When anyone else logs in for me, which they pretty much have to, it does not ask them for a password. When I tried a different computer this morning, it asked me for the other password. Bastard. So I mostly have to wait for about half an hour in the morning for someone to come in and log me on, doing nothing. Earning a "how are you getting on, Rachael?" from the woman in charge.
But apart from that, it's alright. The people are nice, it's not too far from the flat, there's a lake outside, complete with swans and crows that terrorise each other. Apparently it's meant to be for three weeks, but they're looking for someone long term until Christmas too, though they want to wait and see how I get on before they say anything definite. Hopefully I'll get it, because the money's pretty good. And, yeah, Christmas is coming up and I'm probably going to need it. And if the students continue to list as a failing point of a seminar the fact they were bored, hey, it's all good!
The Peter Serafinowicz Show is on tonight. I keep forgetting about that.

The Filthy Mind vid keeps playing in my head and making me imagine all my characters at a rave. You should probably look at it though, because it's great (streamed version here). And today at work I found a booklet of the Crazy Jesus version of Titanic. Might have stolen it. Because dude. ('Is money all you can think of, Chester?' 'What else is there? Ha! Ha!')
