Some things that have happened:

  • I have finished the main questline of both Oblivion expansion packs. I am now the Arch-Mage of the Mages Guild, Master of the Fighter's Guild, Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Champion of Cyrodiil, Divine Crusader of the Knights Of The Nine, and God-Queen of the Shivering Isles. Which is nice.

  • I have a job interview. In two weeks. I keep meaning to talk to my employment coach woman about doing some interview preparation, but I haven't yet. I am seeing her tomorrow though, so I can probably talk to her then. My main concern is that I haven't worn my interview suit in nearly two years and it might not fit me anymore. Also that I have a JOB INTERVIEW. Jesus.

  • Death Valley had it's season finale, which I didn't realise until after I'd started watching it. It was quite good. They did another weird thing. And, suffice it to say, true love died young. Not that it matters. There is no fic or comms or anything :(

  • Also, we missed an episode of Once Upon A Time because of the American Music Awards, and there was no warning for that until it just didn't turn up on Monday. WHATEVER, AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS.

  • It's nearly December, which means that all the shops have all their scarves, sparkly jewellery, and Christmas themed-stuff on sale. I don't think this is fair.

  • Having missed yesterday's E4 episode because I was out at a counselling appointment, I've just watched two of the strangest Hollyoaks episodes I've probably ever seen. Hollyoaks ended their long-running rape storyline on Friday (on E4) with an entire episode dedicated to the main three characters involved, which was AMAZING. But tonight. They've had a family of robots for a while on the show, and now they seem to be moving onto vampires. And there's been a whole meesed up family/paternity mystery plot running for weeks where no-one has at any point mentioned the words 'DNA test'. A DNA test might be difficult given that the baby's dad is either a guy or his own father. But still. A DNA TEST PEOPLE. THEY EXIST.

  • I went to the Thought Bubble comic convention on Saturday. It was lovely, I spent probably a bit too much, but got some nice, fairly cheap new comic books. The only annoying thing is that there was an artist there who was there last year, when I bought a preview of his comic that wasn't in print yet. This year, he was back with three issues of the comic - but by the time I got there (two or three hours after the convention opened), they'd done better than they thought they were going to, and had sold out of the first issue of it. But apparently I can buy the first issue online when it gets reprinted. Still, it's annoying. But other than that it was lovely.

  • I have no money, I need a number of things, including a new desk chair, and it's Christmas really pretty soon. Boo.

  • My sister's new baby is due on the 28th, apparently, and rather than us having the kids for five days, the new arrangement is for my mum to go pick them up at 6.45am every weekday, take them to school, and then get them when they come out of school, take them to our house and give them their tea, and then take them back to their dad every evening when he gets in from work. I had vague plans to try to avoid the house while all this was happening, but now it's like next week, and I don't have any plans, and I don't really have any money, and - given the current proposed set up, I don't even know what it's going to be like. So I don't even know. But that's next week probably.

  • Oh, and I saw the movie Thor over the weekend. Mostly because I'd heard it was good, and I saw from someone's fanvid a few months ago that the guy who plays Loki in it is Tom Hiddleston, who used to be in Suburban Shootout. And I'm apparently VERY INVESTED IN THE CAREERS OF SUBURBAN SHOOTOUT VETERANS. So yeah, I watched it. I quite enjoyed it, although it seemed to me to have a lot of weirdly Christian imagery for a film based on Norse mythology. And mostly I liked Loki. But basically the outcome is that now - despite how much I hated Iron Man 2 - I suddenly have an interest in the Avengers film coming out next year. And I should probably dig up Captain America at some point so I'm all caught up on the canon before it comes out. Sigh.

  • And now, on [livejournal.com profile] jekesta's suggestion, I'm going to go try out some Danger 5. Which does look AMAZING.

  • P.S. Also, I love 666theheartless666. It's a shame he's not really doing videos anymore. Another sigh.

Oh, television did things tonight.

Coronation Street )

Scott and Bailey )

There's other TV I've been watching. PSYCHOVILLE IS BACK. It has been back for about three weeks now, it's more than halfway over I think. But it makes me really happy. Especially when Mr Jelly's in it. And really loves that old woman. And David and his mum are in it. Any of them could die any episode now. But at the moment they're not dead, and they're making me quite happy.

I can't think of anything else now. Mostly I'm all caught up with Hollyoaks now and watching it most days, and reading welovehollyoaks.com and loving Brendan Brady. And Seth Costello. And Ste Hay. And Jacqui. And Theresa, sort of. And Mitzeee. Well, lots of people really. Hollyoaks is still quite shit, in many ways, but I'm still quite enjoying it at the moment.

I have also been to the cinema twice in the past few weeks, after not going at all for nearly four months. I have a lot of thoughts about both films, but not really enough understanding of what I really mean to make big posts about them. I saw Attack The Block and really enjoyed it, I think in terms of race it wasn't perfect but it could have been a LOT worse. And I saw Blitz, which. Well. When I first heard about it, it sounded like a perfectly decent little chase/cat-and-mouse thriller with Jason Statham. And then I found out that Paddy Considine was in it as a gay cop, and I was pretty much sold. Then I found out that Stuart from Queer As Folk was in it, as the psycho, and apparently really good. So I was quite looking forward to it. But I didn't realise Vague spoilers for the general tone of the film ). Paddy Considine was still pretty good in it, though, even though I sometimes felt like they had him dressed a bit oddly. And I really liked Zawe Ashton as a fellow police officer in it, who I've just found out from imdb was both Jessica from Misfits, and Sally Donovan from Sherlock. I didn't even realise they were played by the same person. I'm rubbish sometimes. But yeah, anyway. I saw both of them. And enjoyed them to varying degrees.

In other news, my terrible week last week didn't exactly go off without a hitch. There was a bit of family drama, which I may post about later. But I'm glad it's over, anyway. I'm looking forward to this week more than I was to last week. Although I still haven't heard from the DWP about my claim for Incapacity benefit. Gulp.

In other other news, apparently I'm going to Prague in three weeks. Eek.

Weekend

[livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes was here this weekend. She was great. We watched Emmerdale, and went to a very bizarre late-night Simon Amstell gig, and explored the gaping underground chasm vaguely near my flat, and watched Iron Man, and discussed how fandom is just RUBBISH at pairings, and she watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with me, and Arrested Development, and Suburban Shootout, and Dr Who, and today we had a truly memorable experience at the Tales of Robin Hood. It started with a live falcon (which was possibly a different bird), and ended with learning that green dye was actually poisonous back in Robin Hood's day, and in between there was a jaunty song about the rape of the Sabine Women, which it turns out was Sobbin' Women from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than a cheerful incitement to rape sung by and for a band of outlaws in an Errol Flynn-era film, which is what we assumed, but, y'know, memorable all the same. Rape seems to have been a bit of a theme for the weekend. Along with vomit, and people disappointing their dudes.

[livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes went back today. I hope she gets home alright, and the trains aren't too weird and Sunday-ish. I assume I will hear at some point.

Pairings [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes and I generally agreed don't get enough fic:

  • The King brothers.

  • Richard Nixon/Henry Kissinger

  • Obadiah Stane/Tony Stark

  • Hiro/Ando

  • Anyone on Suburban Shootout (I hadn't actually watched the Oestrogen Patch episode before. Dude.)

  • Crichton/Scorpius (although I was mostly leading on this one)

  • Arrested Development in general

  • Anyone good

  1. Gosh.

  2. Suburban Shootout vid, yay!

Heroes 2x05 )

Mostly I have been watching Carnivale, and pointedly staying away from anything on the internet that might give away the ending. I love it quite a bit, even if it has some dodgy gender issues. The female characters are quite beautiful though.

Also I started my new job at the University on Monday, which is fine. It's quite dull. Mostly I am sitting at a computer at the moment and typing up feedback sheets from students about their seminars. Some of which are admittedly hilarious. I like it when they use capital letters. But it still gets a bit wearing when you have to do it for 4 hours. However - as you can imagine, this involves me being on the computer a lot. As it turns out there's not much physical filing to do. But no computer in the admin room where I'm working has been without some problem since I've been working there, and my main one is that even though I've been given a password and a login, when I try to use them the computer asks me for a workstation password, which I don't have. And my Uni password and login don't work. And the temporary password and login an IT guy set up for me doesn't work. When anyone else logs in for me, which they pretty much have to, it does not ask them for a password. When I tried a different computer this morning, it asked me for the other password. Bastard. So I mostly have to wait for about half an hour in the morning for someone to come in and log me on, doing nothing. Earning a "how are you getting on, Rachael?" from the woman in charge.

But apart from that, it's alright. The people are nice, it's not too far from the flat, there's a lake outside, complete with swans and crows that terrorise each other. Apparently it's meant to be for three weeks, but they're looking for someone long term until Christmas too, though they want to wait and see how I get on before they say anything definite. Hopefully I'll get it, because the money's pretty good. And, yeah, Christmas is coming up and I'm probably going to need it. And if the students continue to list as a failing point of a seminar the fact they were bored, hey, it's all good!

The Peter Serafinowicz Show is on tonight. I keep forgetting about that.

  • I spent most of today and yesterday at work checking two forty-page documents to make sure the text was exactly or mostly straight because the printers are a bit funny, and the documents were going out into the public domain. Pity me.

  • It's quite sad that there don't seem to be any L.A. Confidential "Holding Out For A Hero" vids. Since that's blatantly what Exley was doing. Hmph.

  • Suburban Shootout fic though, woo!

  • And today on Emmerdale, Carl King went mad with power. Matt was only slightly turned on.

  • I can't believe no-one ever told me about Evil Dead: The Stage Version before. Dude. Mostly I think it would be worth it just for "All The Men In My Life Keep Getting Killed By Candarian Demons".

  • People still really aren't writing enough Aaron/Logan slash. Damn them.

La. I took my newfound day off work yesterday, to get stuff done before going away again this weekend. It was oddly liberating, even if I did mostly spend it doing chores. Next week I plan to go see a movie. There's quite a bit on at the moment, actually. I also managed to see my estate agents about the wasps nest outside again. Not that I imagine it will do any good. And I got my sister's birthday present. Hurrah!

I went to London last weekend, which was great. Cee had doughnuts. We went to see Elling, which I quite enjoyed, although yes, it probably was a bit too chaotic and directionless in the second half. John Simm was good though. We went to St Pauls on Sunday, which is very big and gold on the inside. We sat in on the Eucharist, and heard quite a lovely sermon by a priest from South Africa, who talked about how America should apologise to Iraq, and how the Church declared apartheid a heresy, and previous priests at St Pauls refused to hold the post-Falklands service as a victory celebration, as a "certain prime minister" wanted them to. It turns out the Church is sometimes shiny. I couldn't follow any of the hymns, though. Then we got lost, and ended up on London Bridge. It was quite good. Although over the weekend I attempted to show Cee the bits of Dodgeball where Jason Bateman and Lucas Buck are dodgeball commentators together and she insisted on watching the whole thing, AND IF SHE TELLS YOU ANY DIFFERENT SHE IS A FILTHY LIAR.

Tomorrow I'm going to my parents for my sister's birthday. Thought about taking my day off tomorrow for travelling, but I would still have had stuff to do, so I didn't, so I'll be going straight from work. There's new Suburban Shootout on tonight, though! Only three episodes this series, for some reason, but still. And [livejournal.com profile] whatho sent me Nightingales today. Thank you! I will watch it, probably next week. Oh, and there was a postcard with a failed icon in place of a stamp! I fully believe stamps were the original icons. Fully. I have to finish Arrested Development Series 2 before a new series though.

Spoiler for Arrested Development 2.16 )
girlofprey: (Night Watch City)
I'm not in Nottingham. However, I'd already arranged a day's holiday from work tomorrow, and have shocked and appalled my father by deciding to take it instead of going in to earn up to £40. Ironically, I'll probably just end up in a different part of Leeds.

La. I have new Fables. And am intent on getting the first Sandman novel, if I can find it. Neil Gaiman seduced me in Waterstones. It was all very fast, I'm not sure what happened. Amazon is not being very helpful so probably I'll end up tracking down a comic book store. I probably shouldn't be spending my first wage before I have it, but - it was never very likely I wouldn't in the first place.

Suburban Shootout was on. I didn't watch Sugar Rush. Suburban Shootout is over. I'm quite sad. But there were guns and explosions, and Joyce lolling in the Unsubtle Lesbian's arms, and Hilary making untoward remarks in the interrogation room, and it was ALL VERY GOOD. Joyce/Camilla forever. DVD soon please.

Things that please me:

  • Eerie Indiana is out on DVD soon. It's amazing how fast I went from 'Oh, I remember that show!', to 'MUST HAVE DVDS. WANT. OUT NOW? OUT NOW?'. Perhaps the first of my random-and-strange-supernatural-type-shows. With pretty jailbait boys, naturally.

  • Lemony Snicket 6 on audio CD! For squeeing over the doorman! I just need an hour or two to listen to it now. The only problem with uploading it to iTunes for that purpose is that sometimes in the middle of 'shuffle' I end up stopped short trying to skip past Tim Curry and all the ironic turns of phrase.

  • I love Jaws! Oh, two gay boys and their shark. There should be Jaws slash. I have realised these sorts of declarations from me don't have much impact anymore.

And, as a counterpoint to all this randomness, I've decided I have too many fandoms. I'm going to make a list, and try to prune them a bit. Channel my energy, instead of being a fannish butterfly...on crack. Vote for your favourites now!. The result will hopefully be fannish contributions that last longer than, oh, ten seconds.
girlofprey: (R for raygun)
I'm on the internet for proper work-type reasons, but I'd just like to say:

If any of you aren't watching Suburban Shootout, your lives are devoid of meaning. DEVIOD I SAY!
