I got earthquaked last night. Since I was in bed when I felt the last one a few years ago and knew what it was, I mostly thought "Earthquake, whee!". It did feel a bit precarious, my bed being off the floor and the windows rattling for a good 30 seconds. But interesting. My radio and the local newspaper are arguing over whether it was the biggest quake in 25 or 250 years. That's rather a sad state of news affairs.

Random rambling about No Country For Old Men )

1) There's a person who apparently wants Llewellyn/Anton slash and likes Arrested Development. SHE'S LIKE MY PEOPLE.

2) I knew it had to exist somewhere. I KNEW it.

Rah. I had the strangest dream last night, which for some reason involved Peter and Sylar and Cain from Emmerdale. And Samuel L. Jackson. But I sort of understand that part. There was one bit where we/they were in Venice or London and we decided to go to this famous underground restaurant for lunch, and I stood on the steps and took a breath and could feel cold and damp in my throat. The waiter/maitre'd looked a bit like Igor. It was quite odd. Then I got lost and the 'superheroes' totally couldn't find me. I was only around the corner. They were rubbish.

There are some lines from songs that are just a bit too perfect for characters. Like Autumnsong's "Baby what have you done to your hair?" and Peter Petrelli.

I was going to make a post a few days ago about how I was just rub at posting, and - well. Also I was going to talk about cat macros, but I seem to have lost the link. Mostly my bad posting has been to do with watching dvds and reading Peter/Sylar fic. People seem to be writing a lot of Peter/Sylar at the moment. People are writing it at the Secert Cabal Porn Battle. We've been put on the big pairings list. IT'S ALL A BIT GOOD. I also spent some of my time being obsessed with plotbunnies for Disturbia. That was quite good also.

Work has been busy this week. The guy who is in charge of our office (of three) is on holiday, so it's just me and the other temp (of two years, but still) doing everything, including writing the responses to complaints. This means turning the investigation reports people send us into actual letters which will be the OFFICIAL REPLIES TO OFFICIAL NHS COMPLAINTS. I've written one so far, and it only wasn't too stressful because it had to be done that day, and there wasn't very much in the report itself. Everything has to go by the woman who's in charge of the department (of four) and the people who will actually be signing them, but it still seems like a lot to be asking of the temps. The woman in charge by the way doesn't generally do the sort of work we and the guy on holiday do, so doesn't know anything about the cases, and is working on another project three days a week, the work for which she's currently behind on. So. But we seem to be coping. We got most of the urgent reports sent out, so next week could be quiet. Hopefully. And hopefully, because the guy who actually signs the responses before we can send them out in the official NHS response deadline is away Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. So.

La. I love Michael Bluth. And Jason Bateman. And I need to organise all kinds of stuff for the next few weeks. But first I'm going to Alton Towers tomorrow with [livejournal.com profile] ironicdutchess, whee! And there's new QI on in a minute. Oh, Never Mind the Buzzcocks was on the other night. I love that too. There's going to be a new series soon, I think. And they keep telling me Series 3 of the Mighty Boosh might be airing in November, but I haven't seen any evidence of it SO FAR. Hmph.

The Filthy Mind vid keeps playing in my head and making me imagine all my characters at a rave. You should probably look at it though, because it's great (streamed version here). And today at work I found a booklet of the Crazy Jesus version of Titanic. Might have stolen it. Because dude. ('Is money all you can think of, Chester?' 'What else is there? Ha! Ha!')

girlofprey: (Lost is great)
  • I was slightly an agent of espionage yesterday. You probably won't know about this, as I don't talk about my bills with great regularity, but essentially the address I'm registered at with my power company is slightly different to the one I use for everything else. It's the main road at the front instead of my side street. Anyway, the shop next door to me changed owners while I was living here, and they have a top bit to their shop that opens onto our courtyard, and all of a sudden our block of flat was getting power bills for the New Occupier for Flat Above the building next door to mine, on the same street. Given that I (with some pain) had totally registered with the power company and I knew what my address was, I figured this must be for the shop, even though the top bit isn't a flat, and posted the first bill to them. They posted it back. I went around and gave it to them, they said they didn't have a flat so it must be one of ours, and I explained that my flat was the closest to theirs, and my address was different. They accepted this and took the bill.

This was all a few months ago. Since then, I have given them every bill that came through our postbox, and they accepted it with a smile, and everything was fine. On Wednesday, we were posted a Disconnection Notice for their address. I thought "Shit, what if it really is my address?", but thought no, because I'd registered and I've paid a bill. So I posted it to them the next morning. Yesterday afternoon, I got home to find a big envelope in the post for me with just my flat number and name on it, and inside were all the bills, warrants for disconnection and the disconnection notice they'd gotten over the past few months. So I thought "Right".

I called the mobile number on the bottom of the warrant letter, sadly not noticing the dude had written it on in July. Then I called the Debts Line, but they had written the number wrong. Then I called the General Enquiries line on the bills, gave them my account number, and launched into the story again. They checked out my account, and guess what? I'm fine. But the power company don't have any record of the shop next door changing hands. And their bill is mysteriously split between two addresses. They wanted a way to sort this out with the shop. Did I have the account number on the shop's bills, they asked - no, I did not. Did I have a contact number for the shop?

I may have possibly run down into the street and got them one off the sign.

It feels a bit mean. At this point, though, I also feel a bit like "Sic 'em, boys".

  • A guy also hit on me on the way to the tram stop yesterday. That was quite nice.

  • And I got a call from my agency today, which I assumed would again be them telling me my position was being finished today, because I don't know, I'm rubbish. But it turns out they have a job offer for me after I finish here, with plenty of leeway in case my current people want to keep me a bit longer. The downside is that this might mean I'm out of work for a few weeks before it starts. And it's only 27 hours a week. And apparently I'll be working in the complaints department. But it's actually quite similar to what I'm doing now, and mostly, woot, work! And the guy who is my contact at the new place called me afterwards, to tell me if I was interested, there were permanent positions on the website. For which I thank him.

  • Work has gotten slightly better, also. The woman we work with who is fine but also "helpful" in the most patronising way, was away, and I and the other temp just had a bit of a laugh. I think I also managed to be a bit more efficient while also cold like ice to the people who were being a bit rubbish before, and they've actually been a bit more pleasant and helpful since then. Probably from the pain of my rejection. I can only imagine. Hah.

  • I've been watching a bit of Arrested Development. It's a bit good.

  • Re: tonight's Emmerdale - the writers really are reading my LJ.

  • I've mostly been thinking about Peter Petrelli over the last few days. Heroes Unmasked 4/Possible spoilers for the rest of the season )

  • Supernatural tonight.

  • Possibly a movie about pies tomorrow.

Pleasant things: Realising that Microsoft Word can be shortened to Mi Word.

I'm back home from my parents. Well, I got back yesterday, but stuff was sort of happening. It would have been Sunday but, well, I didn't exactly have a reason to hurry back.

I went to see my agency today. Face to face I found out they/my contact person don't have any temp to perm jobs except ones you'd need a car to get to, and the only job she has to offer me is a permanent position working on a sales desk. She also sort of called me on being quiet at work, and said I'd need to come out of my shell and at least seem enthusiastic to get past the interview, if I wanted it. I'm not particularly inspired though. As far as I can tell, it's to be some sort of telephone debt collecter ,for Virgin Media. Debt Repayment Facilitator is probably a closer description, but it still doesn't seem like the kind of thing you'd want to be chatting away to people about. I don't know. I did get a lot more relaxed doing VRT calls in the last few months. And I got some voice coaching while working on the student radio in uni, so I probably could sound enthusiastic if I wanted to. My contact woman said that speaking enthuastically didn't really come naturally to her, she just picked it up as she worked, but I resisted the urge to say that she sounds really forced and false and a bit scary on the phone. Which I feel was borne out by the utterly terrifying smile she gave me when I said I wasn't sure the job was for me.

But it is the only job they have going. And it's permanent and in the city centre, and with a higher wage, though it's partially based on performance. And maybe my genuine/fumbling phone manner would HEAL THE INDUSTRY. I don't know, I said I'd think about it. The current plan is to brush up my CV and go around some other agencies tomorrow, and check out the playhouses to see if there are any actual arts posts open. I'd ideally need something a bit sooner anyway, since the phone job doesn't start till the end of the month anyway (and no brain, that's NOT a plus). Though people keep suggesting I could sign on.

So I'm currently messing around with the CV, and the annoying about it really is keeping it to 2 pages when you keep having had more jobs. Then you have to start taking out responsibilities, or whole jobs altogether. But is volunteering at a BHF shop what I ought to get rid of, or working at a summer school? TELL ME THAT. Damn.

In other news, Peter can do anything better than you. And I haven't run out of Peter/Sylar slash yet. And [livejournal.com profile] dwseason4 continues apace. Hurrah!

Stuffs

I have not been great with posting recently. Especially things that are actually happening in my life, I know this. Mostly I am just busy, but BUSY DOING NOTHING. Besides catching up with fandoms. That's quite good. And, y'know, the whole job thing. And keeping myself clean and fed. On that note, in fact, I just made myself eat something vaguely nutritious for dinner as well as the chips and cheese. GO ME. Anyway. To summarise:

  • It rained in Nottingham today. Like woah. Sadly, the guy in our office who's afraid of thunder was off, so I didn't get to see him cower with fear. I did, however, get my feet wet, through the holes in my boots. Also they got soily. THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS, the only pair of boots I liked out of the two low-heeled pairs I found in Nottingham in January not only magically dissolved in the sole and gave me blisters, generally squash my feet, and make me slightly crippled if I try to walk too fast in them, but also have holes that let in water, and soil. I will be trying to fix them over the weekend, I think.

  • I found a version of Utopia that didn't make me cry! Spoilers. And for Family of Blood )

  • Marlon Dingle is the best thing ever. Followed closely by Val. Some rambling/ranting )

  • I have watched Heroes up to episode 12/Godsend. I think it's safe to say I'm hooked. Spoilery talk - well no, it's mostly about Peter Petrelli )

  • I'm totally on my second Harry Potter book. See me finish canon.

Phew. So. Right. The current plan is to spend the weekend finishing Heroes. 11 episodes in two days is doable, right? While mostly hiding from the rain. And Doctor Who will be on tomorrow night. And tonight there will be South Park. I'll probably try to post again with more content at some point too. Rah!
