My parents gave me £50 for my birthday. And apparently, the Playstation 3 is coming tomorrow. Which is very nice of them. Especially since I realised that even if I have the Playstation 3 and manage to hook it up to a decent screen, I don't have any games to play on it, and I can't afford the ones I like. But now I can. I'm a bit excited really. This is the first time I've ever had a games console, aside from the time my sister borrowed a Playstation off a friend of hers for a few days when I was in highschool. We played a bit of Tomb Raider for a few days, couldn't get out of a cave, and then gave it back. Good times.

We went out for lunch as well, to The Rustic Arms, which is a pub in Ackworth that I haven't been to since I was a teenager, and used to go to a bit as a kid. It had a big playground and a lake/pond, and we thought it might be better for my nephews than the slightly posher place we normally go to. The playground has either been changed or I remember it being a lot bigger, and the pond was fenced off for the local fishermen/people, but it was lovely, and really child-friendly, and the food was really nice, so it was quite a nice day out. We came back to my parents' house for some cake, and brought my grandma down, which she ended up complaining ferociously about (as always), but there were no real fallings-out and it stayed quite nice. And then I came back and watched the Dancing On Ice final, and Chris Dean and Jayne Torvill danced the Bolero, and Craig Mclachlan, with beautiful scruffy hair and a load of stubble, skated a little bit of his routine he did in the first week. Which was all lovely.

However, I am not so pleased about this habit of me having to lose an hour of my birthday, world. I dimly recall it happening before, I think. Less of that, please.

Anyway. In other news:

I was watching Coronation Street at the weekend, and suddenly started seeing possible Sarah/David incest. Which was unexpected.

Theory and spec about Heroes season 2, spoilers up to 2.07 )

God, people really do make some awesome vids. Rama Lama Bang Bang by counteragent. Angel/Dr Who. Lilah and Yvonne: two hardworking, professional zombies with lots of spunk and heart. Might need to get that song somewhere.

In other news, I have work for tomorrow. I have to be there at 8:30, but hey - work! Hopefully which will last, or be replaced by other work. So I can get a slightly better handle on my cash. The only unfortunate part is that I haven't done any of the cleaning I said I was going to do with my few days off. But I did spend most of today curled into a ball trying to ward off stomach cramps. Anyway. There's always the weekend. I need to fix the light in the bathroom as well. But work! Now I just need to find out where it is.

Currently, I am mostly dead from the clip of R Kelly's R&B opera 'Coming Out of the Closet' (?) shown on 8 Out Of 10 Cats (mii-dget! mii-dget!). Which, in the tradition of apparently all British quiz shows (if not just British comedy), is turning out to be as gay as toast.

My feet hurt more than ever today. My blisters had blisters. But mostly I was filing at a desk (watch me put things in numerical order!), so it was all quite good, and I only went into the future from boredom and tiredness a couple of times. During lunch I walked into the city centre and looked at all the shiny things I can afford now, though I made the mistake of wandering into a bookshop. I can't afford new books. By which I mean, there is no space in my room, nor indeed my house, for books. I didn't even move all of the ones from Nottingham back with me, yet my general impression was still 'Books! So many books! How did I get them?! Where did they come from?!?'. This may mean I have to start actually reading the ones I have, rather than just 'collecting' the UNCLAIMED ones in bookshops. Ho hum.

It turns out that I'm not getting paid my vast wads of new cash till the end of the month anyway, which seems ever so slightly rubbish, considering our current position in the month. Probably I can talk dad into lending me some. For flat shoes, amongst other things.

In other news:

  • I nearly read a dark Lost fic last night about Jack breaking Sawyer's spirit, and have pretty much only just stopped panicking distraughtly. R Kelly helped (mii-dget!).

  • I watched Saturday's episode of Drwho, which my dad had mysteriously taped, and watched. Spoilers, probably )

  • My sister has kittens. I am horribly in love with the black and ginger one. My dad doesn't seem enamoured of us having it though, since we'll soon be swapping the dog for her grown-up cat. And I suppose I don't have the time to look after it properly, working 9 to 5, anyway. And given that I don't know what I'm doing in the next year, or where I'm going to be living, I probably shouldn't be tying myself down with a pet. But...::sigh::

  • I still love Suburban Shootout.

I go now to look up train times to London, and possibly renew my virus subscription (passwords and secret answers my eye!).

Merry Christmas! :D

Hope you all got what you wanted, and are having a great, lazy day. I got a card from [livejournal.com profile] tiniago, and I love her. I sadly do not have my Draco and the Malfoys CD yet, but omg, gifts! I think my parents got me pretty much everything from my 'Suggestions' list, except for the part where I suggested 'any series of Futurama', and they got me the Ultimate Collection! Every series! Every DVD! Am love on them! And also League of Gentlemen (Reece Shearsmith!). The Forsyte Saga (Damien Lewis!). Baudelaire and Joyce (I'll never have time to read them!). Black and White 2 and The Movies! (this will never help with my essays!). Dude. I am quite contented.

I fear that after all of this, there won't be much Christmas money left over, which I was (somewhat, guiltily) more looking forward to than the presents, but...it's all good. Also, since [livejournal.com profile] jekesta sent me in the direction of the files that allow me to see DVDs other people have made for me, I've also sort of gotten all six seasons of Drop the Dead Donkey (Damien!) and the first two of Malcolm in the Middle (Francis/Spangler!). Am love on her also. And all of you!

I am currently hanging out with the family, after scanning [livejournal.com profile] yuletide sneakily for rare fandoms I love. I take advantage of other people's hard work and community spirit! Also, I watched a King Kong 'making of' special, but it didn't talk at all about Jack. Only people no-one cares about, like Carl, and Ann, and Kong.

I am not working on my essays at all today. Not that I do much work any other day, frankly - starting to freak out a bit now - but today, it is Someone Else's Problem. That person being myself in the future.

Anyway - four hours or so till new Who! Mickey, and David Tennant, on screen for a whole hour, saving the world and entertaining us all! ::counts down minutes::

And once again - Merry Christmas, kids ;)

Mickey will be back in the new Doctor Who! ::dances::

Also K9, which is probably of more interest to fans. And Anthony Stewart Head! But they said Mickey was a 'sidekick', which probably doesn't mean companion, but it could, which means Mickey All The Time, but Mickey some of the time at least, and ::dances::

Also; I am here. And it feels like for true anonymity and the rules of the meme I shouldn't be telling, but everyone else is, and I don't actually know the girl who's journal contains the meme, so probably there'll be no point if I don't. And you don't have to love me. You can just say things. Any things. But yes. It is there.

Went to town with grandmother and mum today. She bought me cake! In our little town's vaguely posh cafe-thing. There is a brand new 'cafe-bar' nearby, which serves onion rings and whatnot, but I did not think my grandmother would be able to sit on the seats, or if she could, get back up again. Still, it requires further investigation in the summer (aka next week), I think. Hmm. The cake came with a huge dollop of ice-cream, which the waitress did not mention was 85p extra, the cunning hag, but grandmother was paying so its all the same to me. There was another cake which my mother and I thought was called Sex and Toffee, which was tempting, but it turned out to be Texan Toffee, and all gone (no suprise, frankly), so we had other cake, and I felt a bit sick but happy :)

Yay, I have £360! Sort of. I'm not sure if the £110 for [livejournal.com profile] connotations has gone out yet - awaiting my next bank statement. But I owe dad £200 for rent anyway. So slightly less money. But more than yesterday, perhaps. Enough for things. And no-one told me The White Stripes had a new album out! I caused a slight disaster getting it down to look at it in Tesco's, but I am tempted. Oh yes I am. The songs have pretty names. Hmm.

East of Eden is out on DVD :D. Though sadly very expensively. Btw, WH Smith and Tesco CD/DVD prices kick the arse of so-called CD/DVD shops ::looks at you, HMV and Virgin:: Hmm.

The father of my sister's baby almost went to jail. But didn't. They've reduced his fines, apparently. A part of me is slightly disappointed, but he does seem to be helping her out a lot, so yes. Hm.

Lolita is sort of pissing me off. I don't know. I sort of like it. When Lolita is not around. Not that I dislike her, she seems like a perfectly nice kid, but Mr Humbert does have a nasty tendency to go off into flowery, intoxicated, showers-of-gold (not like that)-type speech, which makes me roll my eyes until I go blind and pass out. But all the other adults seem so annoying compared to him that you can't help but like him...until you realise you're only seeing them through his possibly self-delusional paedophilia-celebrating eyes and you just want to choke him again. Hmm. I will finish it though. I'd like to see where the story goes, even if we pretty much know what happens to Humbert Humbert. I am sort of in love with the girl on the front cover though. With her painted nails and Dorothy dress and pretty is-she-19-or-is-she-12? face, and sunshine and grass. Mmm.

I have begun writing what will hopefully turn out to be a nice Mickey/Rose/Doctor/Jack piece. With, yes, much focus on Mickey, who doesn't get much fic-love from anyone but me, le sigh.

Thoughts on why I like him so )

What's this about Billie Piper leaving Who after the first series anyway? It's new to me.

Hmm. I quite like these long posts, although I worry they bore the Hell out of everyone else. One advantage of being at home (when the computer's free, anyway ::eyeroll...::).

Boom Town spoilers )

Other thoughts:

@ Grandma, you gave me £30 for no good reason. I love you.
@ What is this about 100 user icons for permanent accounts? What what what?
girlofprey: (Zaphod! - yorda_)
Film meme! )

Other random things that happened over the weekend I wish I had the internet in my room omg!!:

@ Not a lot now I come to think of. Not that I haven't already discussed in memes. Hmm.
@ Ooh, gay/bi-ness in Doctor Who! I came into the episode halfway through, and hadn't seen the first one, but I understood this part! I am waiting to see how this Jack fellow interacts with Mickey before getting too excited though ::is prudent::
@ Checked out Sin City comics. Comic!Kevin not nearly as pretty as ElijahWood!Kevin, and scarier for it. I could have done with some more of the Marv/Kevin sex fight scene though. 'He's wriggling around like a snake' - indeed...
@ Peter Serafinowicz on Have I Got News for You! Looking foxy, with his black half-open shirt and black hair! He is so a dark Sith-lord. And we all know Tim has the Force. Therefore everything that is sad about the slashiness of The Phantom Menace equally applies here yes.
@ South Park! I love it so! 'We killed our teacher and they found our seamen in her stomach'! 'Be not jealous Jew, for I am the creator of all things, yea'! The Catholic Boat! ::loves it::
@ Lots of things I will remember in an hour's time, but oh well ::loves you all!::
