Hello!

I told you I'd be rubbish at this.

We had househunters. Also ants. I cleaned the kitchen, which involved cleaning up the ant powder and probably breathing a lot of it in. Also I nearly went blind from recycling. But it was the first time I had ever cleaned the kitched when I was finished the kitchen was TOTALLY CLEAN, dudes. I had such pride. Then I hoovered my room, and the carpet isn't grey!, and I watched Blackadder and ignored the fact I was meant to be doing a takeaway exam. But I have been doing work. Not enough, naturally, but I've handed two things in, and they were just straightforward enough that I get to worry that I didn't put enough work/thought into them, but they're each worth quite a small amount of marks, so I'm just going to move on. Now I just have the three massive essays and film presentation to do. Yes.

I have been far less strict with myself about TV and film than LJ, naturally.

On Green Wing: The OT3 is true! As is the OTP! And yes!

On the Night Watch DVD: Extras spoilers ) It's only a shame that, as with Green Wing, they brought out the DVD when I am much more psyched about part 2.

And on Emmerdale: Omg, Sadie TOTALLY USED CARL AND MATTHEW'S LOVE AGAINST THEM! It was amazing. She was all 'I think you should have lunch with Carl. He likes you. He trusts you.' And Carl was so obviously, beautifully still in love with his brother, all sneaking out of work to have a drink with him. And Matthew was so obviously 'I pretend to not know what she's talking about so I DO NOT HAVE TO BETRAY MY BELOVED HOT brother!'. But he did. And Carl found out. All in one episode. It was great like woah. Seriously, if you want some brotherly vaguely-pretty-when-Carl-doesn't-make-that-face angst fallout, with added Yorkshire accents, tonight, ITV, 7 o'clock.

And I am quite looking forward to Saturday's Dr Who too. Oh, and 'Suburban Shootout' tonight on 5 - I await it with awe.

Also I miss you lots except when I'm secretly checking my flist as well as my email.

Thank you!

Oh, and I forgot to mention - thank you for the Night Watch badge, [livejournal.com profile] katemonkey! I'm wearing it right now! So everyone will know which side I picked - or just think I'm a freak...
girlofprey: (R for raygun)
I have no money again, a mere week after being given roughly £300 by my parents for food and bills and living and such.

Seriously, like £14. This morning, before I went to town.

This did not stop me buying Nathan Barley on DVD. For lo, it was my whim promise to myself, and if you can't keep those, what's the point yeah?

The Futurama ultimate boxset is only £60 in Fopp ::pines::

Christmas is of course coming, not that I'm allowed to think about it until I've done about three essays, SERIOUSLY AND WITH THE PROPER DILIGENCE. But I'm really not sure how that's going to turn out this year, since as far as I can tell my dad A) doesn't want to just give me money, and b) doesn't want to hear what I want. Hold onto the receipts, dad. That's all I'm saying.

As for you people,

Christmas wishlist meme. Oh yes. )

My list seems slightly angry, for some reason. Perhaps the fact most of the things I wish for are things I wish I would write. Dammit.

I went to see the doctor about the crazy spots appearing on my hands lately, and she tells me they look like insect bites. So now I'm infested. Joy.

That is mostly all.
girlofprey: (Anton Sexy)
I'm not sure this fic turned out entirely the way I wanted it to. But I'm fairly pleased to have finished it, and you can never tell how things look from the inside anyway. And yo - dialogue. Things happening. Some symbolism still, and no slash!, as is my general curse wont, but yes. 1,592 words. Go me :)

Dear Zavulon and Anton,

Your relationship is a bitch to write.

Or, at least, to manipulate to any one particular end.

Yes.

Grudging love,
Girlofprey

Wheee, my parents came down yesterday. We did not do very much that was glorious, just went round the town and for coffee and pizza and such. But they bought me a necklace and a book and some halloween chocolate from Marks and Spencer's. I feel like one of those bored, intellectual princesses you see in films. Yay. And we went to see Wallace and Grommit/The Curse of the Wererabbit. I like Grommit. I preferred the one with the sheep and evil robot. Yes. Got home very late, read until even later, and then completely STOLE an hour from time, so I got to to stay up even later! Oh yes ::skillz::

Parents also brought new family drama. Those easily upset/who just plain don't care, look away now. Drama! )

I have random spots all over one of my hands. Possibly I will go see the doctor. Hmmm.

Ooh, I watched QI. Stephen so blatantly wants to go to Belgium with Alan to see the carrot museum. And to Canada to see the lakes. Verycoldskinnydipping!fic? Perhaps. Although Alan woul probably mostly hang back and be all 'yeah. wow.', and enjoy the parts in the hotel room most of all. Yes.

A new person has turned up on [livejournal.com profile] slashysouls! Our numbers grow every day! And if [livejournal.com profile] jekesta would at least watch the DVD I so kindly lent her, she could have an opinion on it all. But apparently not!

Reading more Lemony Snicket. I like Lemony Snicket. It confuses the hell out of me :)

Wanadoo still being complete wankers - apparently it's in the terms and conditions that we can't cancel the contract just because the wirelessness doesn't work. W. t. f?

And some more Night Watch talk )
girlofprey: (Anton Shadowed)
I do quite like this series. It's simple and it's intricate and it's fun. Some of these endings are a little more open than I'd intended them to do, partly just to finish them, but I quite like leaving them just a bit unfiddled with. Since I spend about half an hour redoing each sentence sometimes. I'm so tired and spaced out recently from reading I don't know if I'll be continuing it anytime soon, but I have a few ideas, if not quite as 'jump out and grab me' as these, so who knows. Yay for Night Watch!

In other news, Steve Pemberton almost kissed Reece Shearsmith on stage in the League of Gentlemen show last night, in the guises of Herr Lipp and Justin. But it was cruelly snatched away at the last minute and revealed to be all Herr Lipp's fond dream. Rachael sad :(

My foot is wet again. Hmph. So is my washing. The rain is just making a mockery of the whole drying process. Have decided to break out the huge umbrella of semi-pink. No Mr Nice - Girl.

[livejournal.com profile] narrauko? I have a comment from you in my e-mail, but it's not showing up on my entry page. I'm happy for you to friend me, but am slightly puzzled about the Night Watch fic thing. Since I haven't written any. Um. Except for this one.

Title: Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty )

The idea has taken over my brain a bit. I have some ideas in the pipeline, and some I don't know how I'm going to write. Fic with plot does not seem to be forthcoming. But I'm quite enjoying this, barring being dead from reading/writing.

League of Gentlemen show tonight. Am still slightly wet. Growl.
girlofprey: (Night Watch)
I went to see Night Watch for the third time today. Colour me obsessed. But I think I've had my big-screen fill now. I'm ready to wait for the DVD, and y'know, the next one. Or two. Or whatever.

Potential spoilers )

And once again, a Night Watch post which is much longer than I intended it to be. But I think I'm done now. Roll on Day Watch.

I have far, far too much reading to do for next week. A 300 page novel. AND 600 pages of Ovid's Metamorphoses. Woe. I considered buying Sun Tzu's 'The Art of War' in Fopp today as well, but a quick check of the balance reveals I have minus money again. So perhaps not.

I do have the new Lemony Snicket though. First chapter reactions = More spoilers! )
girlofprey: (R for raygun)
  • Rachael in pain from that whole being-a-woman thing. Ouch >:|

  • Rachael has had a Spira, so is slightly appeased.

  • Rachael has about 150 pages of a book to read by tomorrow, and 100 things to do before she can even go home to where the book is, oh no.

  • However, it's all about sex and incest and sorcery in an abbey, so again slightly appeased.

  • In fact, it seems to be Incest Week for my whole reading list at the moment.

  • Rachael watched Lost last night, the one where Charlie nearly dies. But the important part is that Sawyer kept Sayid's signal fire burning! Omg the love!!

  • Rachael has been reading all or most of the weekend.

  • Post-Final Battle Night Watch bunnies where Anton is Zavulon's 'spoils of war' did not help this.

  • I cannot remember Anton's face for more than five seconds at a time for some reason! Woe.

  • Really quite worryingly obsessed with Night Watch, as recent post will attest.

  • But everyone else is obsessed with snooker, so never mind.

  • Rachael really ought to be doing a What's On guide for her radio so she can go home. Ah well.

  • Bullet points perhaps the best way to update journals ever.

And, randomly, some Night Watch pairing summaries, for your viewing pleasure:

Anton/Kostya - Like Romeo and Juliet. Only drunker!
Olga/Tiger - The owl and the pussycat
Anton/Zavulon - Yegor has two daddies!

ETA:In honour of Family Guy's return to our screen in less than a week (ee!), I would also like to present you with perhaps their best quote ever; 'Three days? That's tomorrow!' :D

And some random movie site is announcing the UK/USA release dates of Day Watch as 2005TBA - which is very odd, since it's not meant to be being released in Russia until 00:01 January 1st 2006. I just don't know what to believe anymore! However, there will be a game to keep us all occupied till them. Although unless you get to roleplay sleeping with Anton, possibly I'll leave my money where it is.
girlofprey: (Anton Gloom)
I went to see Night Watch again with a whole different flatmate last night. And I can honestly say that a) it's probably better the second time around, and b) I can honestly think of no better way to spend two hours. I could easily do it over and over and over again....forever.

Rambling. At some length )

In conclusion - everyone should go see Night Watch. Both Anton and the film are beautiful, you will not be disappointed. 3 stars from SFX magazine my eye. Also, it would be really nice if one shop anywhere in Nottingham, or one site anywhere on the internet, had merchandise/news/any sort of mention at all of the film or the sequels or anything at all so that I don't have to wonder if I just imagined it. This post took me an hour and a half. That is all.
girlofprey: (Anton Shades)
  • I read the first few pages of House of Leaves last night. I am sensing that reading it at NIGHT is generally going to be a bad idea. Also am slightly freaked out by the reference to Spoiler? ) on the publishing details page. I had to read a chapter of a different book before I could go to sleep. And I was already checking to see if the hallways had gotten longer when I went to the bathroom. Eek.

  • I may have accidentally agreed to possibly interview the League of Gentlemen next week for the radio show. Help?

  • I made a complete fool of myself telling my flatmate someone had stolen his bike this morning, before realising it was actually still there, and being informed there is a communal bike shed in our garden (which seems wrong), so I'll probably see a lot of people wheeling bikes in and out over time. Hmph.

  • I'm going to see Night Watch again tonight! :D I cannot get the mpreg bunny out of my head though. Even when I am reading Nietzche's views on the Birth of Tragedy. In fact I think that made it worse.

  • New Anton icon! :D

  • He's so pretty.

  • Too pretty to be COMPLETELY good.

  • I wish I had an icon that said that.

  • I am slightly tempted by [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100. The min. words for each fic is only 100. I think I could write 100 drabbles for Land of the Dead, wherein Cholo and Riley dance round each other to a variety of subjects, and frustrate me horribly. Another person has signed up to do 100 fics on the Evil Dead series. This makes me happy. Probably there will be no slash. Probably this is for the best. But still. Tempted. Foolishly, foolishly tempted.

  • New Lemony Snicket book out in less than a week, yay. I have a Lemony Snicket poster all printed out. It's all very good.

  • Will this list never end?

  • I am still rubbish at cooking, it seems.

  • However, I have recently come into possession of some blank CDs, so I can now copy some of my slashy playlists onto them, and play them on the downstairs CD player while I am 'cooking', in front of my very flatmates, who won't know a thing! :D

  • I wish more of you knew my crazy little fandoms and wrote me fic.

  • But it probably really is my job more than yours.

  • End of list.

  • I promise.

Things

Oct. 11th, 2005 11:14 am
girlofprey: (Anton Gloom)
Things which have happened since this weekend:

  • Even my flatmate's internet completely broke down. So now we forsake Wanadoo. He has written an angry letter of cancellation. Seriously, like if they don't cancel our contract and any bills he will just take them to court, and go to the newspapers, and call Watchdog, and put up posters in the street. Hurrah.

  • My dad has a new job :D

  • I have completely failed to read the huge book. I look for plot spoilers on the internet now.

  • I made some new icons :)

  • I keep fantasising about Anton and Zavulon from Night Watch having weird, manipulative, prophetic-type sex. Or pseudo-sex. Or whatever. And somehow I got an mpreg bunny. Um. Help? (if only he wouldn't insist on looking like this ::points to icon:: every now and then...)

When I have the internet in my house, my life will be better. Yes.
girlofprey: (R for raygun)
Things that happened this weekend:

  • I cannot get on the internet. I am using the stupid Wanadoo wireless adaptor and putting the stupid Wanadoo box in the right mode, and I've done the security key so many times I can recite it by heart, and still it will not work. I call the technician people and just confound them. They have no advice for me, except for one thing, which I cannot do because the adaptor is now just not working. Much like my flatmate's, who up to press had all his problems fixed. I am annoyed.

  • My dad has no job. For proper. Which is slightly distressing. But apparently he has three interviews this week, and (according to mum) doesn't seem hugely depressed about it, so I am holding off worrying just yet. But I probably won't be asking for more money anytime soon.

  • I have a 670 page book I'm meant to have read for Tuesday. In 3 days I have read 100 pages. And I have a play to read for Tuesday as well. I sense, with my incredible deduction skills, I will not quite manage it. No.

  • I went to the Goose Fair with Kathy and Jos! Waltzers and dodgems and freakshows, oh my! I bought a glow necklace. And played Hook-a-duck. Which is essentially buying a teddy bear. And marshmallows on a stick. And a glowing necklace. And Kathy had her fortune told for £10. We giggled at her mightily, oh yes. It was a good night :)

  • A person a person a person joined [livejournal.com profile] slashysouls!!! See!! A person I don't know! A fellow fan! Who saw the Craig/Wade! Who wants to write a crossover with Hellblazer! Which is so yes! ::is dead of happy:: :)

  • I went to see Night Watch! ::is even more happy:: Which is basically vampires in Russia (and seers and witches and shapeshifters, but the vampires do the most) And it was quite worth the wait, although bits were confusing, and it was so obviously mostly a set up for the rest of the trilogy. But there will be a rest of the trilogy, and I think fairly soon, judging from imdb evidence. And it was so pretty! I need icons. And the guy I thought would clearly be evil for he was too pretty to be good was in fact good (mostly!) and I don't fancy the villain for once!! Although I would like to know Spoiler ). And it really is quite good because there is hardly any battling, mostly angsting and detective-ing and legends and angst, and really really GOOD special effects. It was pretty. And I saw hints of slash. And there is a fic community, though the fic is somewhat theoretical at the moment. And why can I not find any mention of the original books anywhere? >:| But it was good. Yay.

Probably more things happened, but I really do have huge amounts of reading to do. If I had the internet at HOME...but never mind. I have read my flist in it's entirety, but commenting is slightly beyond me. At uni, anyway. Hopefully Wanadoo will get off their arses and sort us out soon. Or be switched for a more helpful server, oh yes.

YAY!

[livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes has offered to co-mod with me at [livejournal.com profile] connotations! ::dances a happy dance::

So...I should probably start thinking about what I'm actually going to say now. I should probably start with rewatching all my slashy Britcom DVDs. Oh no. ;)

In other news: Reasons why I am excited to go see Night Watch.

I don't even know who the guy in the glasses is. But I want him. Oh yes.
girlofprey: (DW She Burns)
Went to Leeds. I'm not sure why I do this because I only look in Borders and HMV and then go home. Perhaps because it has a Borders and a HMV. Hmm. Got new Empire. On the first page was a huge advert for Night Watch - out in cinemas October 7th. Result!

HMV is crap for DVDs. The Internet kicks its arse a hundred times over. I can get The Third Man for £6 at dvd.co.uk. And one day I shall.

However, Borders is very good at books. Weepingly so. So many books. So little time. So medium amount of money. I did find everything on my Gothic reading list, pretty much, but sadly all in the wrong editions. Which matters apparently. Dad normally pays for my reading list, but blew off the last book I bought, so I am awaiting knowledge of What Is Going On before I get them. I did not buy anything. I bought some H.P. Lovecraft. But nothing else. No. Then I pretty much came home and bought a Janet Evanovich book because it was all of £2 in my shop. The Cancer Research shop however mocked me with it's 'open 9-5 Monday to Saturday' sign while it WAS NOT OPEN at 4:40. Adrian Mole: The Cappucino Years lies beyond my grasp >:(

Dad and I might be going to the cinema soon (hurrah!) after last night's trip Did Not Happen. Katie 'needed' mum to bath/look after Jack from about 7:30 to 9:10 while she ate her tea and tidied her room. Which Did Not Happen. Hmph.

When I went out to catch the bus this morning I saw a boy in his pants! A man-boy. He was running down his driveway. There was a nice comedy moment where he saw me, stopped, and then jogged back from whence he came. Hee :) Also a slightly odd man in Leeds bus station stood in front of me in the queue, then sat next to me when the queue diminished and we sat down, got up when I got up for the bus, sat behind ON the bus, and got up when I started looking like I was going to get off. I refrained for another stop. Yes.

In five weeks, if all goes according to plan, I will be at Connotations. Hurrah :)
girlofprey: (Island Jordan)
Things I did: Went to see The Island :D

General feelings, with lots of spoilers probably, and squee )
girlofprey: (call_me_daisy - Siren)
I went to the library and rented CDs, yay. They had to change my card, because they'd had a different system in place for two years. Um. I have not been a devoted library-goer. Whoops.

I had forgotten the library had books. And you didn't have to pay to read them. Just put up with the plastic and the smell. Hmm.

Anyway. Got new Nick Cave, No more shall we part. Am reserving judgement as yet. I hardly ever love things straight away. But new Tori Amos, eeee!!...

I bought Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Yes. Peer pressure, and the pretty fanfic, and the pretty (though rare) new adult covers got to me. Shame. Also I could get the hardback copy in Tesco's for £8, which is fairly 'score!'.Spoilers (I get to say that now yay!) )

Has anyone else heard of a new film coming out called Night Watch? My film magazines have been talking for ages about how it is fantabulous and broke all box office records in its native Russia. It is about vampires, and apparently very Matrix-like. I am intrigued. But they do not say when it is coming out. Hmph. >:(
