So yesterday I went and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Spoilers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and the book probably )

Phew. That took a while. But there it is. The last film. The end of the Harry Potter story probably. Wow.
girlofprey: (Default)
I just watched the Apprentice final.

Cut for spoilers, and also in case people hate the Apprentice )

I actually ended up really enjoying The Apprentice this year, although I was going to say I still didn't like it as much as Dragon's Den, which I hadn't seen much about this year. And then after the aftershow thing they put on an advert for Dragon's Den! Which James Caan seems not to be doing this series, so they've got another woman in to replace him. So there'll be two female dragons on it this year. That's quite nice (and will hopefully actually turn out to be quite nice).

Other shows I am watching: Single-Handed came back, and Jack Driscoll is kind of a prat but I love him, and it turns out his evil father can always ruin his and other lives NO MATTER WHAT. That's quite special. Other than that, I still don't really love anything at the moment as much as I love A Very Potter Musical and Sequel. Or the Labyrinth AU of X-Men: First Class I've been dreaming up. It's gotten to the point where I actually get quite confused by some of the things I see on the kink memes at the moment. "That isn't canon"/"Jareth Shaw would never do that", etc. Ho hum.

And I've gotten into Texts From Last Night stuff as well lately. And the fandom tumblrs that are inspired by it. Here, have the X-Men: First Class one and Harry Potter one, on me.
girlofprey: (Default)
My adventures in the last few days have also included:

  • Going to the doctor's and getting a sick note that will last me indefinitely, until a decision is reached on my appeal, yay!

  • I got the bus to my local cinema on Wednesday, and just before we reached the cinema a man on the backseat - who I'm pretty sure got on the bus in the bus station with me and seemed alright - suddenly starting shouting loudly. He stopped after a minute, and everyone looked around at him, but he didn't say anything else (that I heard) so I assumed he probably had Tourette's or something. Then, he started coughing really loudly and quite noticeably. Then a little closer to the cinema he got up and walked down to the driver, and his jeans were pretty clearly wet, in a way that it seem pretty clear he'd wet himself. He went and spoke to the driver, something I didn't hear, and then walked back to the backseat, where he'd left a jacket, but because of the bus swaying as it drove, he fell, literally, on top of a young woman in one of the seats. Still with partly wet jeans. He got up, went back to the backseat, started coughing again and Cut for possible TMI and vomiting )

Later on, while waiting for my film, I was wandering around near the cinema, and I'm pretty sure the guy walked past me, and he didn't seem drunk and wasn't staggering or anything. So I'm not sure what was going on there. A part of me feels a bit bad for not telling him about the jacket on the backseat, but I didn't really want to speak to him or get involved much. And it might not have been his, I guess, since he left it there twice. In any case. That was fun.

  • I have discovered a new-found love of the Simon and Garfunkel song "Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard". It's quite ace.

  • I bought this necklace from Topshop, after wanting it for quite a while. It's not a collar like I thought it was, sadly. But it's still quite cool.

  • And I went to go see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, yesterday. I understand that this might be a bit confusing, considering all the other Deathly Hallows posts that will probably be all over the place at the moment. It is Part 1. I never saw it when it first came out in the cinemas. I saw it yesterday.

I have to say that hands down, the best part of it was that Gellert Grindelwald is David Platt's grandfather. In many ways, it explains so much. Man. That was almost as good as when the Devil from Reaper turned up in X-Men: First Class advising the American military department on a possible war with Russia. NEVER LISTEN TO HIM, AMERICA.

    Anyway.

Spoilers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows PART 1, and probably spoilers from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book, up to and including the ending )

Few. Anyway. Other casting things that have suprised me lately: finding out Aunt Petunia is played by the same woman who played the evil p.a. woman in the Super Mario Bros film. And finding out that the woman who played Rita Sue Dreyfuss <3 on Carnivale went for the role of Martha Kent in Smallville. Who knew?

And also today, I found out that [livejournal.com profile] jekesta doesn't want me to have a happy Christmas. WHY JEKESTA, WHY?
girlofprey: (Default)
I watched A Very Potter Sequel last night, and it was amazing. I was going to watch some of it, but then I couldn't decide where to stop and I kept missing the times I wanted to start getting ready for bed by, so in the end I watched it all. Hurrah!

On a sidenote, sometimes I think about female characters I love or like, and I genuinely don't know where to put female characters that are played by men. They probably count, I guess, it just feels a bit weird. But if I was counting them, then musical!Dolores Umbridge would definitely be in there. Oh yes.

And then today I went to see Bad Teacher, which was also pretty great. I love Cameron Diaz. And Lucy Punch. Sort of spoiler ). I would probably give it about a 3 (out of 5), it was enjoyable but not particularly awesome. But I do quite love Cameron Diaz, I think. Yay.
girlofprey: (Default)
I went to Jongleurs comedy club last night. I assumed that being a comedy club it would be something like the last comedy club I went to. Basically, a bar in which you could buy drinks and the doors to which were eventually closed so no-one could come in while the comedians were performing, and in which you could sit quietly watching said comedians. I did not expect it to be half comedy club, half nightclub. It was one of the strangest experiences of my life. First, because I didn't have a ticket, the girl behind the bar just let me pay there when I went in a few weeks ago, I didn't have a seat booked. I had to sit for a while on a stool at a little table just behind a stag party, the stag of whom ended up yelling at me about "cheering up love, it might never happen". The people eventually found me another little table, in better view of the stage, which was nice. But there were quite a few stag and hen parties in. They played loud music when the comedians weren't on, and the compere had a really blokey style of humour which I didn't much like. You know the kind of blokey that's basically offensive? That kind. Then at the end of the show, they were talking about pushing all the tables out of the way to make space for a dancefloor, so I think it actually is a sort of comedy club/night club thing. I just wasn't really expecting it.

But anyway. The comedians were the main thing I was there for. There was a female comedian on first who I really wanted to like, because she was the only woman performing, but her jokes were mainly about "looking like a lesbian", how pathetic morris dancing is when a) it occasionally has knives and is hardcore and b) according to K, is actually a little bit racist, which is potentially the main problem - and a bit about spanish female flamenco dancers having unibrows and little mustaches. So. Hmm. The next man was Welsh and a bit better. And then there was Tom Stade, who was the main reason I went to the show, because I saw him a few weeks ago on Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, and thought he was a bit great, despite a potentially slightly homophobic bit. That bit was there again, but mainly he was great. There's a few clips of him on Youtube, like this one, and I understand he may not be for everyone, but I've decided I quite like him, hurrah.

Anyway. The main news is that I'm back from holiday. Devon and Rome )

And now I am home. I actually have quite a few things to talk about, but not really much time or space left in the post probably. I'm back on Jobseeker's, and hoping to get my housing benefit paid for the time I was away, which they said I might be able to. I had my first counselling appointment this week, and I was horribly late, and then the woman was in another office, but eventually we managed to get into the appointment, and she's lovely, so it was fine in the end. I saw the new Harry Potter film, I LOVE DRACO AND TOM FELTON, OH. I've been watching a lot of TV I quite like, especially Coronation Street (OH DAVID AND TONY AND MARIA) and The Supersizers Eat... (I LOVE IT, and the last episode is tomorrow, but that's fine because I was pretty sure the last episode was last week). And no-one told me Dragon's Den was back on. And there's other stuff. But as I say, this post's getting kind of long as it is. So goodnight x
girlofprey: (Harry Potter Slytherin Hate And They Hat)
Supernatural: Dean/John while Sam is asleep in the same motel room - so wrong it's right?

I may also have come up with the ultimate question today. "Forward" primary schoolteachers - Edna Krabappel or Selena Coombs?

And I love this icon. The only thing that would make me happier in the set would be a Gryffindor icon with "It'll take more than deadly, deadly bees to stop us!". Which, thinking about it, could have been Dean and Sam's catchphrase for Bugs.

And a nice thing about the new DH canon Harry Potter 7 Spoilers )

Is there any Snape/Pansy fic? (the last thought brought to you mostly by a random poll)
girlofprey: (Draco)
So, I got sent home from my new job. Sent home is probably not a great word. "Let go". The first few days were an induction, and after a few hours the woman took me aside and said she didn't think I was the right person for the job ::cryes::

In fairness, I was kind of expecting it though. The job was a lot more complicated than it had sounded - you had to follow certain procedures and connections, and speak to "Joe Public" which meant figuring out yourself where they needed to be sent to, and they wanted to send us on a Start-Up Business course so we would understand where our clients were coming from. Around the time she started having a long conversation with my fellow temp about his business and politics degree I started to get a sinking feeling. Also, the woman said it was a front desk job, so they needed someone energetic. All the yawning might not have helped. Possibly staying up all weekend to read Harry Potter before going wasn't the best plan.

But apparently the other guy wasn't right for it either, so I don't feel that bad. And the agency have found me another position for tomorrow. And I got to ride the tram for the first time today. The other position's more receptionist work, but hopefully stuff I should be able to handle. I have to call back later to get the address and stuff.

Work talk )

So...I'm knackered. I keep doing that thing of going to bed at 12 and half past when I have to get up at 7, and I'm just tired all the time now. Mostly I blame Peter and Sylar. Though I've mostly calmed down about them now a bit. Apparently someone is writing a book about Heroes, and it's probably one of those theory/philosophical books that make me quite happy, but also make me laugh. Hmm. I hope the show doesn't go the bizarre merchandising route. I'd like to read the graphic novels that are floating around somewhere, though.

Anyway! Despite the tired, I will be going out in about an hour to the launch party of Harry Potter, aiming to get my copy at midnight. This is a very strange position to be in when you've just seen the fifth film, then finished the second book, and read the sixth book about two years ago. I love Percy Weasley a bit, and it's quite bad that I don't know any canon for him since book 2 besides Spoilers? ), and won't till after I know what happens to him now. But anyway. I have food and ice-cream, and am sort of planning to not leave the flat all weekend. Except for the part where I need to do washing and shopping and stuff. I'd like to get it finished before Monday, really. So I don't have to have that 7-hour gap. But we shall see.

Vague thoughts, possibly vague spoilers of the vaguest kind )

Until then, someone appears to have written a Sawyer/Sayid fic where they're espionage agents. Hurrah. And possibly hunting down Peter/Sylar fic. Like I need more.

And yeah, LJ continue to be complete wankers, slightly. I'm not sure what the Miller test is, but I believe people when they suggest I ought to laugh about it. Mostly I can't load the Lj-biz page because there are too many comments. Woe. Possibly I shouldn't have bothered wanting to renew my paid account, or getting the extra userpics. Or maybe I should be enjoying them while I can.
girlofprey: (Default)
Hello. I just back from London. Sadly, I forgot to turn on the boiler before going to get food and eating some of it, so I can't have a shower for another half an hour or so. Probably I should be unpacking, but we all know LJ is where it's at. And it can wait.

I went to London. Possibly I didn't mention that before I went. I was at Cee's, who is lovely, and fed me cake, and only slightly tortured me with her bizarre neighbours.

On Friday we went to see Order of the Phoenix. Spoilers )

And then on Saturday we went for a Greasy Spoon breakfast and I made her watch Welcome to Collinwood (oh God, Sam Rockwell). She seemed to like it. And was quite nice about my random babbling about Peter/Sylar. Mostly I owe her for quite a lot this weekend. THANKS, CEE. And then - I don't even know where the time went, we were going to see a football match and I SAID YES but Cee backed down, and then we went to a tiny little stuffy room above a pub, in which we cleverly positioned ourselves next to the only open window, and watched a secret gig with Rich Hall. Rich Hall is great. He told massive lies to a taxi driver about being a rocket scientist trying to stop an explosion, and the taxi driver was suprised because he thought Rich only wrote a book about Sniglets. Mostly Rich said Britain was great for not being upset about explosions or much of anything really, and complained about there being no air in the room. And I made eye contact with a nice looking boy near the front a number of times. Which was pleasant. Sadly the seven months pregnant female Iranian comedian who was meant to be on after Rich couldn't make it, but we stayed and listened to some songs about Spain and senoritas, and then a guy who'd just got of the stage at some other bar be funny for five or ten minutes, and then went home.

Today I was not woken up by Cee's neighbours knocking on the door and trying to get a couch up the stairs. Just Cee wanting to jump on me. We had cake for breakfast, and watched the Hot Fuzz commentary, from which we mostly learned that Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are a bit in love with Timothy Dalton. Searching for fic afterwards led us finding the Hot Fuzz fic archive, though it sadly does not include much fic about the aforementioned Dalton. Inexplicably. Then we tried to learn blackjack (mostly failed), watched the last episode of Heroes, and I ATTEMPTED to show Cee the glory of macros. It didn't so much work. And then I came home. It was all very good.

Also, Cee's mouse is great. If a bit trippy.

I guess the boiler will be done by now. I have to go get a shower for work. I keep meaning to post about work. Remind me tomorrow.

Ooh, lightning.
girlofprey: (Default)
OH GOD IT'S WARM. Really, there's nothing quite like wandering around town for hours, stopping every five minutes to wipe the sweat from your brow/back. The annoyance has sort of gone away now I've been home for a while and not been moving around. Still.

50 minutes to Doctor Who. Which could be rubbish, but there you go. Oh, I have a question, actually. One that will probably be answered by tonight's next-episode spoiler, but anyway. ETA: Casting/character spoilers but possibly a big one for next week, although possibly not as it doesn't make much sense )

And yes, I'm going camping next weekend. It's a trip for K+J's collective birthdays, and it might be cold and wet, and hellish to get to given that it's in Kent, but I'm still quite looking forward to it. Apparently there might be "swimming in the sea", which means I probably ought to do some sort of hair removal. Hmph.

I was annoyed last night because I ordered South Park Series 1 from Amazon on Monday (and before you judge, it was on VHS for £5.75 when the other set was £70, and the DVDs are as much as £90 or £100. And also I love it), but it hadn't failed to be delivered by last night. So I was going to have to wait for it to fail to be delivered this week, and then rearrange for it sending to a Post Office, and then wait for two weeks to pick it up, and pay 50p along the way. "Unless", I thought, "it gets delivered on Saturday, while I'm at home, and the postman buzzes up, and I just get to have it". This seemed like a vague hope, though. But it happened, pure and true, and now I have the videos, hurrah! That's tonight's plan sorted.

I had a plan to read all of the Harry Potters I haven't already before the seventh comes out, and even before the film comes out since the fifth one's the last one I haven't read, but it's sort of failed so far. I thought I might get a move on with it this weekend, but now there's Doctor Who, and South Park, and I really ought to watch the video of Daria I got a few weeks back so I can leave feedback, and after thoroughly deleting all my old game files I've finally managed to download the first episode of Heroes, and if I do anything else apart from that, I'd sort of planned that it would be Drop the Dead Donkey. So. Yeah.

Whoops.
girlofprey: (Barty Crouch Jr - Azkaban tongue)
(Firstly: Iconlove! Omg!)

I came, I saw, I...ate too many scones.

It's almost time to go home. Dad's driving me (yay!), so I don't have to worry about brain/laptop damage again, or piss about with too huge bags on buses. We're cooking a moussaka. When it's done - and eaten - I must go.

I have spent most of the weekend ignoring my family in favour of the internet. It was one of those whole 'Oh I'll just...'/Five Hours Later sort of deals. Mum brought Jack (nephew) over for a few hours last night - Katie needed time to go shopping - and we played for a while. He can walk clear across the room on a push/wheely thing! He also banged his head on a door and cried. And is slightly in love with our dog. But he is lovely. In smallish doses.

I have reading for seminars that did not get done. And I didn't do any of the essay-related emailing I said I would. Possibly this is why it's a good thing I don't have the internet at uni. Woe. But I tidied my room a bit and been to see my grandmother who was lovely and gave me money. So that's vaguely useful. And I do have tons and tons of shiny new icons - including this one :D Tongue thing! Eee!

And I present the (doubtful) fruit of my labours - [livejournal.com profile] crouchjr, for fans of the crazy/beautiful one. All things fannish raucously welcomed. Not that I can promise any actual activity, but - it's there. I've done my bit.

I feel like I should make a third community now. So I can have a triplet. A trilogy. A trio. Whatever. Hmm.

I was reading my new Empire magazine, and they had a bit about King Kong, wherein Adrien Brody was talking about how his character, Jack, has to not just hate Kong and be his rival, but also respect and admire him, and feel a kinship with him over their love of Anne. It's wrong to want Jack/Kong slash, isn't it?

Goodbye internet at my fingertips :(
girlofprey: (Barty Crouch Jr close-up)
Everyone who has not already seen it should go here right now. It is a quite beautiful mockery of Goblet of Fire, with added Barty Crouch Jr love. I guarantee it will enrich your life 110%. Two thumbs up, universal sign of guaranteed security. Omg NOW!
girlofprey: (Barty Crouch Jr Crazy Fuck)
Went to Harry Potter again last night. Am almost like a proper fan.

I'm really not sure what constitutes spoilers for this, so I CUT EVERYTHING! )

Things I have decided there really should be:

  • Voldemort/Barty Crouch Jr/Lucius fic

  • Lucius/Barty Crouch Jr/Snape fic

Because omfg. I might start my own Barty Crouch Jr comm. My other comm. seems to be coming along quite well ::admires it:: And I'm sick of looking for one and not finding it, as though he does not deserve such love. Which he does.

I have called Wanadoo and they have been vaguely helpful, amazingly. My flatmate's internet is all sorted now, so it's really just me with the problem. I'm going to try their advice tonight, and hope.

My flatmate is pissed off at me. For a reason I cannot entirely discern. We were on the bus coming back from HP, and joking and laughing, and I mocked her a bit for having a mild Cockney-ish accent, or Southern, or whatever. But exaggeratedly mocked her. To the point where (I thought) I was obviously just beng random and surreal, not mocking her. And she laughed, breathlessly. And then she went quiet for a bit, and when I tried to talk to her, she said she was 'a bit annoyed at me', and then would not talk to me, when I went to apologise. I haven't seen her at all today. I don't think I did anything wrong. Mayber that's worse. It's all very confusing.

:(
girlofprey: (Firefly Genius Child)
Hmm. Tired. Film festival thing went less well than I might have hoped - when I got to the front desk and said my name and that I would be on the guest list, they told there was no guest list - ! Then they asked me who I talked to to arrange it - I talked to the girl who runs our show, Uncovered, who talked to the press officer, who talked to whoever arranged it properly. But the cinema marketing manager gave me a couple of free tickets to some shows anyway, and her e-mail, asking me to send her whatever I did on the festival, which I think will be nothing now because it's finished and we like to cover things people can actually still go see. Sigh.

Also we had organised an interview with the festival president, which he was thankfully aware of - but when I rang up at the agreed time (10 o'clock-ish), he was in his hotel room! Which was just around the corner apparently. He asked me if I wanted to come to his hotel/room to do it - no - or for him to come back to the cinema - not for a 2 minute interview, no - so that was a big flop. We rescheduled it for the next day, but too late to put it in the show so I ended up cancelling. And then I woke up seriously ill with 'The Curse' (which has earned its name, let me tell you), so I couldn't even nip down to the studios to just do a 'I went to Resfest, and it was...' piece. Double sigh.

On the plus side, I appear to be completely free for next weekend though, for once. I am contemplating going home. I'd like to take my laptop back and do some stuff on the internet, but it might be awkward on a coach/train. Hmm. It might be nice to see the family/Jack though. And...have things bought for me rather than having to buy them.

Am still in a bit of a Goblet of Fire daze. To the point where I COULD NOT SLEEP until about 2 o'clock this morning because ideas and such were whizzing around my head. Mentions of characters names and such. )And maybe some other stuff )

I really can't wait for the GoF DVD. 3 DAYS after the opening weekend. I got it bad.

Also, I had a bit of an icon clearout. See the pretty shiny new ones! Some of them had uploading problems, and one inexplicably turned into Mischa Barton, but they seem to be mostly alright. Now.
girlofprey: (Slytherin Princess)
I went to see Harry Potter! :D

SPOILERS )
girlofprey: (ASOUE One Man (and his Dog))
Midnight showing of Harry Potter tonight. Plan to get more sleep than usual last night completely failed due to having presentation to plan, mother calling as usual, and making comments that led to bad dreams about Katie and Jack. Also Faith and Buffy were there in mime make-up. And Draco was incorporeal and freaking out about it. Hmm. But thinking 'have to sleep' tends to make me not sleep anyway, so probably can't blame mum too much.

I and my fellow HP-goers decided that rather than get a bus at 11 o'clock at night on my own, I should get a bus at 8/9 o'clock - when it's still going to be dark - and hang out at one of their houses, which is on the other side of a scary, scary bridge. Hm.

Am still slightly worrying about getting a taxi back all the way to Beeston, on my own, at 4 o'clock in the morning, but don't really have much of an option at this point. Unless I somehow cunningly secrete myself in the cinema, and get a very early bus back. Hmm.

Presentation is in 3 and a half hours. But as far as I can tell it's not going to be that much different from what I normally do in seminars, only slightly more coherent and all at once. I have vague notes scribbled on a piece of paper. I trust them to carry me through. Our tutor usually leaves the presentations until the end of the seminar, anyway - as in literally 'we have one minute left, do you have anything to say anyone else hasn't already said?'. So am not too worried. And then am free for the week - until Friday. When I have to review a local film festival, and the boy who suggested it/pushed for it has dropped out. I fear for my brain this weekend. Also I might not get anywhere near a computer.

Chips are nice.

Being handed them in a box and not offered ketchup, less so.

Hmph.
girlofprey: (Zaphod Like Those Jammies)
Went to see Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. Which is very, very good and funny, and Robert Downey Jr=yay! And of course, Val Kilmer as gay private detective also=yay! And the fact that they kiss onscreen very much=yay! However, Robert Downey Jr is depressingly convincing as a straight person. Hmph. I could probably read slash for it, but can't see it myself. Although they did have a very sweet ending - Spoiler )

This week we appear to be all set for the HP midnight showing, omg yay. Am actually quite excited now. Seeing it before almost everyone else, without being surrounded by kids (hopefully). Does not quite compute. The show 'manager' has booked the tickets. Today she is going to get the tickets. If she loses the tickets, I will cry.

I have lots of work to do for this week before that though.

Also, I am rubbish at not spending money, and at eating healthily. Unless chips and gravy and a bowl of peas counts as a nutritious main meal. Which it doesn't.

Can someone please explain to me about 'all your [xxx] are belong to us'/'for great justice!'? Because it makes me laugh and I don't know why. I'm thinking Terry Prachett. Help? In small writing?
girlofprey: (Draco)
The Internet in my house was playing silly bastards last night, and now the Router's broken so I'm back to taking Internet where I can between my dad and my sister, who spends most of her time on the internet nowadays. So updating and commenting may be sporadic (i.e. non-existant) for awhile. But I still love you all! I'll wait for you!

That reminds me. I have a present for [livejournal.com profile] jekesta :) Address please.

Had some more random ideas for HP fic - non spoilery.

  • Well, I suppose this one is )

  • Was watching The Simple Life this morning - not by choice - and it occured to me that Pansy Parkinson and Draco Malfoy should totally go live with the Weasleys for three months, randomly blowing up their stuff, and asking them 'do you love it?'. Yes.

Job going well. Got to work in the radioactive glass room yesterday. Didn't break anything, hurrah!

Would anyone like go have sexy adventures in Brighton with me?
