I volunteered for that meme over at [livejournal.com profile] calapine's journal. You know, the one where you:

Comment and I will give you 3 interests on your list, and 3 icons, for you to explain. Then you must post the answers in your own journal and allow others to comment.

Thusly:

Assassins who sing lovesongs: I can't remember if this was something I actually saw or just something that occured to me, but I was thinking a while back that there's a certain focus about love songs that would make them quite ideal and creepy for an assassin hunting someone down to sing. Also that I would love an assassin that did that. Probably this is a great big cliche and everyone everywhere has assassins singing lovesongs, in those books I don't read. If not, first dibs on the fic.

Wolves did it: This is a reference to one of my favourite quotes from the League of Gentlemen. Spoilers for the sketch )

dtdd slash: This is short for Drop the Dead Donkey slash. That will probably clear it up for most people, but in case it doesn't Drop the Dead Donkey is a fantastic topical news based British comedy from the 90s, and it has some slash, but not enough. OH GOD. DAMIEN. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.

Icons:

This is from Never Mind the Buzzcocks, which not many people on my flist seem to watch, but is very good. In the latest series Bill Bailey tried to say something funny and topical, like on Have I Got News For You, but it doesn't really work as NMTB is filmed six weeks before airing. So Simon Amstell interrupted him and said "Bill, it's six weeks ago". Bill Bailey then got slightly confused and upset, and called him a Timelord. It was great. And made me imagine if Simon Amstell was the new Doctor, which seems like it would be the winningest thing ever.

I got this one at [livejournal.com profile] iconomicon, which is a great place to find icons. What can I say? It rhymes, it's got Shakespeare on it. It mentions hos. It has Shakespeare on it and it mentions hos. If you like, you can imagine Shakespeare saying it to you, over your shoulder. There's a similar one with Nieztche in a scarf. And, if you want to get deep, it sort of suggests you should put your writing/what you want to read before the people who don't like it, or think it's 'eww'. All in all, I quite like it.

This is from Talladega Nights, another film most people don't seem to have seen for some reason, and it's pretty much a huge spoiler for the ending, but it is a great ending. More sports movies should end like that. Also: omg kissing. And Jean Girard! Two things that make any icon great.

Feel free to comment away.

It turns out the desk where my laptop is is not really the best place for extended typing and reading. Ouch. Might have to try 'roaming' a bit, without destroying anything with the cables. Tomorrow night I'm going to see Spiderman 3, and looking forward to it. Finally I will see if Eddie Brock is worth getting worked up about. Hurrah.

I do quite like this series. It's simple and it's intricate and it's fun. Some of these endings are a little more open than I'd intended them to do, partly just to finish them, but I quite like leaving them just a bit unfiddled with. Since I spend about half an hour redoing each sentence sometimes. I'm so tired and spaced out recently from reading I don't know if I'll be continuing it anytime soon, but I have a few ideas, if not quite as 'jump out and grab me' as these, so who knows. Yay for Night Watch!

In other news, Steve Pemberton almost kissed Reece Shearsmith on stage in the League of Gentlemen show last night, in the guises of Herr Lipp and Justin. But it was cruelly snatched away at the last minute and revealed to be all Herr Lipp's fond dream. Rachael sad :(

  • I read the first few pages of House of Leaves last night. I am sensing that reading it at NIGHT is generally going to be a bad idea. Also am slightly freaked out by the reference to Spoiler? ) on the publishing details page. I had to read a chapter of a different book before I could go to sleep. And I was already checking to see if the hallways had gotten longer when I went to the bathroom. Eek.

  • I may have accidentally agreed to possibly interview the League of Gentlemen next week for the radio show. Help?

  • I made a complete fool of myself telling my flatmate someone had stolen his bike this morning, before realising it was actually still there, and being informed there is a communal bike shed in our garden (which seems wrong), so I'll probably see a lot of people wheeling bikes in and out over time. Hmph.

  • I'm going to see Night Watch again tonight! :D I cannot get the mpreg bunny out of my head though. Even when I am reading Nietzche's views on the Birth of Tragedy. In fact I think that made it worse.

  • New Anton icon! :D

  • He's so pretty.

  • Too pretty to be COMPLETELY good.

  • I wish I had an icon that said that.

  • I am slightly tempted by [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100. The min. words for each fic is only 100. I think I could write 100 drabbles for Land of the Dead, wherein Cholo and Riley dance round each other to a variety of subjects, and frustrate me horribly. Another person has signed up to do 100 fics on the Evil Dead series. This makes me happy. Probably there will be no slash. Probably this is for the best. But still. Tempted. Foolishly, foolishly tempted.

  • New Lemony Snicket book out in less than a week, yay. I have a Lemony Snicket poster all printed out. It's all very good.

  • Will this list never end?

  • I am still rubbish at cooking, it seems.

  • However, I have recently come into possession of some blank CDs, so I can now copy some of my slashy playlists onto them, and play them on the downstairs CD player while I am 'cooking', in front of my very flatmates, who won't know a thing! :D

  • I wish more of you knew my crazy little fandoms and wrote me fic.

  • But it probably really is my job more than yours.

  • End of list.

  • I promise.
girlofprey: (call_me_daisy - David Desire)
  • I got my ticket for League of Gentlemen live this morning, hurrah!

  • I also got my Barclays bill, and many payment things have gone out so I can stop worrying about them.

  • I need to call my flatmate to ask what the hell is going on with bills.

  • The baby has learned to scratch things, for example my eye. Hurrah!

  • I watched Sex and the City last night when I should have been sleeping. I forgot how Miranda is pretty! I am thinking perhaps there ought to be Miranda/Lynette crossover fic.

  • My sister keeps showing me Angel DVDs and I keep reading stuff about Harry Potter. Resistance to huge, prettiful fandoms fading...

  • I will happily join the Slytherin Liberation Front though.

  • Private posts have strange, Lemony Snicket-style eyes on them. I am slightly disturbed.

  • If I had a few thousand pounds, I would so totally start a Fic Camp in the woods for me!!! the next generation of slashers

  • Maybe I do spend too much time in my room :(

Brief thoughts on Sugar Rush:

  • Poor Kim!

  • Poor Sugar! I fear a drunken 'I thought you were my friend, but I guess all I am to anyone is a shag!' type rant coming on. But maybe I'm just angst-minded.

  • Tom probably will kill someone though

  • Poor [little brother]!!!

  • Omg, young!Nathan was a fox! ::grrrrowl!::

But there was no second one on E4, or a 'next week' bit. Is it over? I don't understand!
girlofprey: (R for raygun - sandintheglass)
Yay, my old layout is back! 'Unearthed', if you will. That was a scary and confusing evening ::pets the beautiful layout::

Well, I've only been up for 2 hours, but it is already a paying day today. I booked a ticket for The League of Gentlemen in October :D [livejournal.com profile] jekesta convinced me with her words. And I do very often kick myself for missing out on Dylan Moran's Monster last year. And I had to pay an extra £2.25 to ticketzone for their middle-man behaviour, and a pound for postage and packaging, and if I'd gone into the actual Royal Centre I'd have got a student discount - but I wasn't about to do that any time soon. Hopefully I won't have a super important seminar of doom on the same night, but barring that - I'm going to be sharing a room with Reece (Reeson!) Shearsmith! Squee!

Also, I got my bank statement, and realised that deposit for [livejournal.com profile] connotations hadn't gone out - ::annoyed glare::. So I called up to check my booking was alright, because I worry, and I don't want £100 in my account that I can't spend. That's just wrong. All is fine (yay!), and they're going to charge me...something. Half, or one night, or something, and send me the receipt soon.

Which is to say, I have no money, or very little. Dad is talking about me getting a router for my bedroom and paying him half - I am trying to explain that I have no cash and thus this will not happen anytime soon. It has not sunk in yet. I'm applying for a job in a shop in town with a 'student vacancy' though, so hopefully all will be sorted soon enough :) (ETA: daddy has ordered one already. And 'doesn't know' if I have to pay him half. This should turn out interesting.)

In other news: Screencapping perhaps the best hobby ever! Pretty pictures! And you can make up your own stories to them! And by ignoring irrelevent characters (wives, girlfriends, etc), or at least separating them into a 'pretty, but distracting!' folder, you can pretend the entire film/series is a love story between whomever you choose! And looks between them can be as long and lingering as you want them to be ::glories in it::

And finally: the near-ending of Lolita (30 pages to go); ::flails/falls down/cries:: Spoilers )
girlofprey: (Slytherin Princess)
Y'ello!

Have had two lovely days of doing nothing, under the pretext of being about to do something. Mostly I have been going through old copies of Total Film and Empire and cutting out the pretty pictures. I buy them for the articles though. Yes.

Purchased the new White Stripes album! I still don't know what my money's doing, but it was only £9.77 in Tesco's, and I had £5.50 worth of clubcard vouchers. I feel like my mum, but yay. Lots of piano, but Blue Orchid is worth the £3.00 of a single at the very least, so a good buy I think. I was tempted by Basement Jaxx's The Singles - but no ::dances to the White Stripes::

I need a paid account. I have decided. Mostly because 3 icons is not enough, dammit! And I hardly ever use the snarky Pansy Parkinson one because I only ever comment to lovely people, and it is clearly not better than theirs, or if it is it is rude to say so.

Should I buy a ticket for the League of Gentlemen live tour? They are in Nottingham in October. There are 9 seats left. But tickets are £25. Hmm. I don't know. At this point it is sort of a choice between the live tour and the DVD boxset. I don't know, I don't know.

Possibly I need a job. Only not at the local sweet factory, since half of it burned down last week :O But Bodycare is hiring. Hmm. If I get a job, I doubt I can randomly take off for adventures with my friends in Brighton, Canterbury and Manchester though.

Real life is hard.

As is too much free time. Yes. More consideration needed, I think.

Reading Update: Lolita getting very confusing and strange. Quilty and q'uil te? Haze and Hays? I begin to worry that he has actually killed Lolita and this is all a mad dream, or that she never existed at all ::fears for Lolita:: Hmm. Only 70 pages to go...
girlofprey: (Zaphod! - yorda_)
Teh slash! (And other stories) )

League of Gentlemen caps would also make a damn fine mood theme, I think. Someday ::mourns my complete lack of photoshopping talent::

My ear is playing up a bit. 20 is early for this, I feel. Perhaps a bit a lot less loud music/iPoding ::worries...::
girlofprey: (Zaphod! - yorda_)
Rewatched some of League of Gentleman series 1 last night. It is so very fabulous, as I always knew. I will not quote lines. But I never noticed how weird/kinky/slashy it all is! And even the het is slightly slashy because omg they are really men. I must have been too young to pick up on it when I first watched, all those years ago. But why did no-one tell me? ::hates you all::

What I'm talking about )

I want the DVD now. Dammit. Like I don't already want enough! But it has commentaries - I crave them like zombies crave brains!

I'm starting to worry about my DVD appetites, actually. I have so many. You cannot actually imagine. At least 60 - and some of those are box/season sets. More than enough to keep me entertained forever, but I hardly ever watch them, and no matter how many I have I want more. More! The Philadelphia Story! Green Wing (eventually)! Sleepy Hollow! Ginger Snaps (it's like Ghost World, but with werewolves)! But I never watch the ones I have, and never in a sit down, all-the-way-through fashion. I think I just like to have them, around, so that I know they're there if I ever do want to watch them. But is this passion or self-indulgence? Am I trying to keep a foot in lots of camps, rather than just settling down and committing myself to being a fan of one or two films? Do I, frankly, have too much money and not enough sense?

Hmm. I don't know. Possibly a 'pruning' of the DVD collection should take place - now that I can screencap my favourite shots/scenes and keep them with me 4 eva omg perhaps I can do without some of the actual films. And it would be nice to buy something other than DVDs once in a while. Perhaps...clothing, or...going outside. Hmm. Tempting ::does thinking about it...::
girlofprey: (R for raygun - sandintheglass)
First of all, I would like to say a big hurrah for [livejournal.com profile] jekesta, for alerting me to the fact that all DVD software on laptops everywhere will make screencaps, and that I was an idiot. Hurray, screencaps!! Of all the beautiful people who I love and no-one else knows exist!! Icons are just around the corner, I can feel it. And, when I get my actual laptop connected to the Internet, probably picspam of people I love and no-one else knows exist. AND YOU WILL ALL HAVE TO LOOK AT IT HAHAHAHA!!!

Secondly, I would like to say that coming home from Nottingham was made immensely more pleasurable by the package of [livejournal.com profile] jekesta waiting for me on my desk. I expected DVDs - I got so much more! Lollies! Ritter Sport in inexplicable flavours! A sheep/pylon/tree OT3 postcard! A glove to call my own! It was like some kind of beautiful dream, and my sister read the postcard because she heard me giggling and now she wants to be Jekesta, and I do not blame her, for truly she is a bundle of loveliness, like her packages :D!

Thirdly, I am home from Nottingham. I did so much packing. I have so much stuff. I did so much cleaning. I cleaned an oven. I scrubbed bathroom tiles till they stopped being bright orange. I got stabbed with a staple taking recycling to the recycling place. But I am home, and desperately trying to fit my stuff into a tiny room full of all my old stuff. I do not think I will win at space. But I will have proper curtains that do not let light on my face at 7 o'clock in the morning. This is all for the good. Also I am feeling a bit better about my results. It turns out 2 of my flatmates got pretty much the same, and even the other who is a smartypants hugely interested in all things academic and poetic and whatnot and normally gets 70s, did not get a first. University is more difficult than it looks I assume. I understand most of the marks I got (I hate you, drama, you are not even proper English omg!), and girl flatmate who actually failed a few exams and essays and still got 63.9 and I talked about university, and essays, and why we even want Firsts, and I feel much better. Thank you flist for your kind comments also :*:*:*(to infinity).

Fourthly, I did not see Doctor Who on Saturday. My flatmate had already packed his TV. I am all bereft. LJ is making me feel berefter with its 'no clues but oh wasn't it fabulous?' ways. But I did go see the League of Gentlemen film! And loved it!

Some thoughts )

Home again home again ::dances a home dance - jiggety-jig?::
girlofprey: (Slytherin Princess)
Am back at home. My father has a huge new computer screen 8o

Fun fun fun as usual. Sister screaming at dad. Mum complaining about sister. Baby generally yelling at things. We're not doing anything because Katie (el sister) might get upset about us going out without her/not wanting to spend every second with Jack, and I can't even go on the Internet much because either dad's working on it or my sister's checking to make sure there's no possible way anything she's buying could be got cheaper elsewhere. Still, that's not that much different from Internet availability in Nottingham. And dad is talking about getting a Router (?) for the summer, so yay perhaps. For then.

Sigh. It's not all bad, I suppose. Room is not as full of stuff as I thought it would be, and the baby is quite lovely. Has two teeth now! Is a top pair away from being Sunny. And he seems to like me, even if he does try to eat my hand when it goes anywhere near his face. I just wish we'd do something when I come home. Blah.

Anyway. Nicer things. Have lots of mail, including the £360 I ordered from my Post Office account. They said they would pay it into my bank. They did not. Hmm. Also a nice bill from La Senza. And a form saying I only get £2735 of loan next year. Hmm. But I'm reading Lolita, so I get to feel all intellectual, and I get to sit in a comfy chair while I watch Have I Got News for You. Ian's tie/shirt combo - liked. Comedian whose name I don't know on Ian's team - liked. Paul's comment that he is 'the wind beneath Ian's wings' - felt very happy for my Hignfy-lovin' friends indeed :D

Went to see Sin City again on Thursday, under the sneaking suspicion I wouldn't be seeing it over the weekend. Spoilers )

Also, got the new Empire magazine yesterday - following their good review/feature, I so want to go see The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse. Papa Lazarou! In the real world! Possibilities of Lazarou/Reece slash, outside of crackfic! Hurrah! ::makes plans::

And for the rest of the year: Corpse Bride! Crazy animation! Helena Bonham-Carter as femme-fatale (literally)! ::<3's her like woah!::. And The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe looks fantastic. Tilda Swinton as the witch, in a polar-bear driven chariot! Hurrah for films, hurrah! Hurrah for Empire, hurrah! And hurrah for Mickey on Doctor Who today, hurrah!
