I went to my first (new) Jobseeker's appointment today. They seem to be expecting me to do a lot more this time, or perhaps I was doing more to find work last time besides going to see them. Now I have to fill in a diary thing, and my next appointment is Monday. Previously I had 2 weeks between my initial appointment and the first proper Jobseeker's appointment. Which means I sort of have two days. I need to update my CV, mostly. And find somewhere to print it, since I don't have a printer. Which I will do. The lady I spoke to today printed me off two or three jobs from her computer, so it's not that bad.

I did get a letter today saying that I was behind with my Council Tax payments though, and if I didn't pay within 7 days I would be taken to court and have to pay fees. I thought that January was one of the months where you didn't have to pay Council Tax. I was wrong. Blast.

I was watching part of the pilot of Lost the other day, because someone reminded me of the joy of it. And I know, plot development and explaining the mysteries and all that, but I do sort of wish it had stayed a show about a bunch of survivors living on a beach/in some caves, vaguely afraid of what was in the woods, but mostly just getting on with things and catching fish. It reminded me of the time I mostly wanted Sawyer, Sayid and Claire to go leave the others and just live in the woods together with Aaron. Not because I hate the other characters, particularly - although I do hate Jack and Kate - just because I thought it would be great. Sawyer could steal supplies from the others, and keep a secret stash just for them, and Sayid could do useful things and pointedly be quiet at Sawyer when he was pissy, and occasionally they’d hear a noise in the woods and all tense up, and get their guns. Claire would have a gun under her bed. I fully believe that. And they would have to hide her and Aaron away from Charlie and Locke, but that would be fine. And occasionally Rousseau would wander past, but stay a certain distance from their camp, and Sayid would go out and try to talk to her, but she wouldn't stay for long, and Sawyer would ask what her story was, and Sayid would tell him all about Alex, and Sawyer would feel quite sad about parents being separated from their child and pretend that he didn't, and she would be great, and he would sort of pretend she was his mother, running around being super in the jungle with a rifle. And Sawyer would read to Aaron, and Sawyer and Sayid would go hunting not always with great success, and Sayid would be all "And this is how you hunt without a pistol", and Sawyer would be all "Quiet before you scare away the boar!". Claire might ask to learn about hunting, but I imagine they'd insist she should stay with Aaron. Probably she'd learn a bit. She could go out for a bit with one of them while the other stayed with Aaron. It would be great. I should catch up with Seasons 3 and 4 really, and see what actually happened. Probably nothing like this.

In Casualty on Saturday we learned that Nick had some sort of degenerative disease. I'm going to post about Casualty at some point. Probably.

I think the UK wins a bit at adverts for crazy American shows. I haven't seen the other countries' entries, of course. But between the crazy Lost dancing advert and the new BBC 2Dimensions Heroes ads, we must be winning some kind of prize. Now they just need to make a crazy Heroes dancing advert. Then we could all be happy.

I don't think it's very fair when Heroes is a bit rubbish at the moment, for them to be making ads where the cast walk a bit sexily down hallways. I really don't.

This is also a bit brilliant.

I watched a programme by Alan Titchmarsh today about how we've dug up the English countryside a bit but the wildlife actually seems to be doing alright with it. There was a bit about how Salisbury Plain, the biggest army training site in the country, was actually the perfect breeding ground for a certain plant which allows a rare breed of butterfly to live there. This pleases me, if only because of imagining meetings where they consider changing the training ground to somewhere else, and someone says "But sir, the butterflies".

The quest for Christmas shopping continues unabated. It might end up having to be a late-night shopping sort of job.

I went to see Die Hard 4.0 )

In other news, I was thinking about Nathan's comment in Heroes that Spoiler in that it gets said ), which people think is a Lost shout-out. It seems very clear that the people in Lost should all suddenly discover that they have superpowers. And that the people in Heroes should possibly find themselves trapped on an island where their powers don't work. But mostly the Lost one.

And I just got my payslip for last week's work and the holiday time I never took, on which they appear to be charging me £100 tax. I might need to chase that up with them on Monday.

Heroes, up to episode 2 )

And has anyone else heard about Lost? Apparently they're intending to finish it, for good, in three seasons. It was going to be two (at least), but now they've decided on three at 16 episodes each, instead of two at 24. So 2010 is meant to be the big finale. Huh.

And Violet/The Hook-Handed Man is great! Hurrah.

Hello. Still no sign of work, but given that we're going through a bunch of bank holidays I wasn't really expecting it. Soon would be nice though. I signed up to K's agency, which always seems to get her temp work pretty quickly, so hopefully I should get back on track next week. There also seems to be a problem with my pay from the last 'week' at work, probably because I didn't give in a time sheet. I'll have to sort that out too.

Anyway. I used the time off to finish Lost series 2. So I'm only part of a series behind everyone else. Thoughts )

Also, I watched the beginning of Super Mario Brothers film again. I think people are unecessarily judgey on it. It's clearly a genius bit of film-making. It has Italian-American brothers, played by a hispanic actor and a British one. It has young!John Leguizamo, looking quite fresh and pretty and wearing a rainbow belt. It has Daisy who wears shorts and hiking boots, and one of the bad guy's jerks is one of the jerks from American Gothic! I think you know the one I mean. It's a classic!

Also I watched Doctor Who. Vague spoilers ). I really like Martha. Almost as much as I liked Mickey. And we all know what they have in common. Yes. Their names both begin with M. Clearly a winning formula.

Anyway. This is my news. Also that internet cafes apparently open on Easter Sunday. Who knew.

I'm going to Nottingham tomorrow, so I can get my results at 9.30 am on Friday, and I'll probably be staying till Saturday, when dad can come with the car and we can get some more of my stuff. I'm really really wound up about it for some reason. Possibly because I have to get up and go to work and then get a train since I'll be in Leeds and maybe wait and then travel and change trains probably and then get a bus and then get to the house and then unpack some stuff and THERE WILL BE NO FOOD THERE. NONE. I will either have to shop and cook or get takeout and probably shop anyway because there'll be nothing for breakfast, and I'll probably have to have a shower at some point over the weekend and this is freaking me out for no good reason. And clothes! What clothes should I take? How many? What if something happens and I need more than one change? What if it's cold? What if it's hot? Books? How many books? Also, I'm on my period - ! And I wish I didn't have to decide all of this in an hour so I can get to bed in good time to get up and WOE.

That made me feel better. Slightly. My eyes hurt.

Also Spoilers for Lost 2.8 )

And in Sunday's Emmerdale, which I just watched thanks to Sky+ recording, Tom King (daddy) told Jimmy (eldest) he should speak and take over at the big King's Housing Launch, leaving Carl looking dejected on a chair. If I was more cynical I would point out that he doesn't really have anything to do with the housing - he runs the bins - but I ignore that because it is clearly a great opportunity for Matthew to swoop back into his good graces, and lure him away from the 'respectable' part of the family, hurrah. Also, Carl apologised and was lovely when the launch went wrong and Jimmy started acting the prat. He is great.

I go pack now perhaps.

Further thoughts on X-Men 3 (complete with SPOILERS) )

I've also been reading more of Sheenagh Pugh's book, with all my free time. I think it might be starting to work its way into my subconscious: I've had fanfiction dreams three nights in a row at this point. The first was about Guy, Mac and Caroline. They were lifeguards at a pool for some reason, and Mac decided he wanted Caroline back and told her Guy had abandoned her, WHILE GUY WAS BUSY DODGING GIRLS WHO WERE TRYING TO SEDUCE HIM, BECAUSE HE COULDN'T SLEEP WITH THEM BECAUSE OF CAROLINE! Then there was a Life on Mars one, where Sam was being made to do all sorts of things with a post-hypnotic suggestion, and Annie had to talk him down while Gene pushed the guy responsible into an open grave. Then last night it was The Forsyte Saga, with Soames moving into a Victorian studio apartment (with a demon) just above Irene, then setting off on a walking holiday, while Irene decided she loved the new artistic, walking him and followed him.

It's all a bit strange, but I'm vaguely interested to see what happens next.

And I've been watching Series One of Lost on DVD, since I watched all of four episodes when it was on TV before giving up. All signs point to Sawyer falling unconscious and having to be carried around in tonight's ep (2.4) though, so suddenly I'm interested.

Some Lost thoughts. Probably with spoilers. )

I think that's enough for now.

I just wrote the last essay of my degree. Dudes.

I wrote it yesterday. And I'm slightly worried about the fact none of my fellow Arthurians were around at the time of deadline. And possibly it was just ALL NO GOOD, but it is done, and they're all done, and I'd like to do something to celebrate but I'm actually too tired to move. Yet here I am back at the computer. Ah well.

This means that my degree is practically OVER, except for my exam on Monday, which is only for two hours - and you can revise all you want, because you never know what will come up, but you're actually only going to use two hour's worth of stuff. This is how I feel now, post-essays, knowing that there NO MORE WRITING to be done. Probably I'll start freaking out more tonight.

Exam is also after the Green Wing finale, omg. I'm sort of hoping for a huge cliffhanger until Christmas, because I'm not ready for it to be over, and especially not if they go the way I think they're going to go. Oh. Guy. Mon cher Guillame. If they end with Guy/Caroline, I will love them excessively, mainly for flying in the face of most of fandom. If they end with the OT3 I will LOVE THEM FOREVER, and first-born children may be involved. Omg. Tomorrow.

Also there will be Part 2 of Mickeytastic Dr Who on Saturday. About which I choose to have no feelings one way or the other, to avoid hurt.

I hope he gets a gun.

I sent off my Connotations form, and have a space in a room (of great!), so that is all going swell. And I have money which will probably be ALL GONE a few days after my exam. And I can finally watch those DVDs that got delivered to my door EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND, while I was trying to work. And I need to renew my paid time and extra icons soon. Yes.

My housemate does not like Sawyer, and is ruining my appreciation of new Lost. Woe.

Not enough of you have been to see Brick and brought me back a fandom.

I go sleep now perhaps.

There's going to be a sequel to Wicked. Hmm. It SEEMS exciting, though simple logic tells me Elphaba won't be in it. Still, a future reading possibility. The Reading List for 2005/2006 just grows and grows!

Dear my flist who do TV downloading,

What sites do you use? Can anyone sign up? How free is it?

I am thinking it is a thing I really should do. Because Malcolm in the Middle doesn't appear to be coming to Region 2 DVD anytime soon. Also there is lots of music I need, but that's another story, and bearshare.net is perhaps the way forward, if I can figure out how to get it freely.
