Hello. Still no sign of work, but given that we're going through a bunch of bank holidays I wasn't really expecting it. Soon would be nice though. I signed up to K's agency, which always seems to get her temp work pretty quickly, so hopefully I should get back on track next week. There also seems to be a problem with my pay from the last 'week' at work, probably because I didn't give in a time sheet. I'll have to sort that out too.
Anyway. I used the time off to finish Lost series 2. So I'm only part of a series behind everyone else. I love Lost. I think I do prefer the character interaction bits than the big 'plot' bits - I could really care less about what's in the hatch, especially with the way they draw it out. I like the way they've just started throwing random things in now. A statue! Alaska! Why not? The station where Claire was was pretty interesting though. A glimpse into what the Others might really be up to. It doesn't really make sense that it was all deserted, but the costumes the Others were continuing to use were still in there though. Well. Whatever. Mostly the shows on a tropical island, so tends to look pretty whatever.
There were lots of great Sawyer moments, but I feel that I'm a bit alone in my Sawyer love, so I won't dwell. Also I bugged Cecilia with it all. She responded by saying Sawyer was more rubbish than Jack, AS IF ANYONE COULD BE. Oh Jack is awful. But Sawyer called him on it! "Who's going to look after Libby while you go off chasing the Others, Jack?" WHO INDEED? And Jack threatening not to let Sawyer get heroin for Libby unless he showed Kate where his stash was, oh God, it was terrible. I love how Sawyer just didn't even think twice about it though. When people do actually need something, he does tend to help them out. I love him. Probably the Others have recognised that he's 'one of the good ones' and are hoping he'll rub off on the rest of them. Especially Jack and Kate, who he can't seem to get away from from. I couldn't believe it when he said Jack was 'the closest thing he had to a friend' on the island. Oh my God. People who have seen the rest of series 3 are probably laughing at me at this point.
Anyway. I think they screwed up some of the back stories in this season. Sayid's comes to mind. I think it made more sense that he was a loyal Iraq soldier, torturing people for his cause, until he had to torture Nadia and that changed his mind. Making it all the American soldiers' fault, and having him have already questioned his loyalty to the regime, just doesn't really sit right. Though personally I didn't understand why he agreed to torture his superior officer in the first place. I'm wondering, in fact, if the whole thing was more of a way to get him in contact with Kate's father and the American officer in the hatch than anything else. But. That's canon. Kate's was the other one. I think it would have made more sense if she'd had to kill someone in self-defence and spent the rest of her life running from it - I just don't see how she could have set out to murder someone in cold blood because she hated him for being a part of her, and then be so happy-go-lucky as she is on the island. Maybe it's a character thing. I've always thought she'd work better if she was a bit more scarred. But. It's not my show. From Sawyer's backstory, we learned that not only did he get mental scarring from his own father, and some really bad advice from Jack's, but he's also had a succession of older 'partners' telling him no-one will ever love him when they find out what he's really like. Probably in an attempt to keep him with them.
Also, given that Locke's father didn't just trick him out of a kidney but runs actual cons, I'm guessing that he used to go by the name of 'Sawyer' back in the day. I'm right, aren't I? It's my current favourite pet theory, besides that the 'Man In Charge' used to wander the world gathering money to start up the Dharma Initiative, AND WAS CALLED SAWYER. I have a bit of meta going round in my head a lot, which basically boils to the fact that Sawyer Snr is more of a father figure to Sawyer than his own dad, with Sawyer having both taken on his name and 'followed in his footsteps'. Sawyer's dad kind of removed himself from the equation, anyway. And by the way, this series really makes with the daddy issues, doesn't it? Also, Sawyer went to help Libby when she'd been shot, and it was probably not unlike the time he was 10 and he went to see his mother when she'd been shot. Just saying.
Anyway. What else? I like Charlie more now, probably from when he got exiled from the group. That might be a bit of a theme with me. I still don't like him with Claire though. Scorpius helped heal Rose! That was good. I like ex-gangster Mr Eko. I liked Ana Lucia, and that was quite sad. Locke's pissing me off again, but only slightly. Desmond crashed their plane! The thing about Lost season finales is that they never feel like the end of anything - you tend to assume you're going to see the rest of the story quite soon. Even if this is not quite the case. And I still love Sayid. And the Lost bloopers. 'Get down with your bad self'. Squee. This is getting a quite scatalogical, so I think I'll end it here.
Also, I watched the beginning of Super Mario Brothers film again. I think people are unecessarily judgey on it. It's clearly a genius bit of film-making. It has Italian-American brothers, played by a hispanic actor and a British one. It has young!John Leguizamo, looking quite fresh and pretty and wearing a rainbow belt. It has Daisy who wears shorts and hiking boots, and one of the bad guy's jerks is one of the jerks from American Gothic! I think you know the one I mean. It's a classic!
Also I watched Doctor Who. I thought all the Harry Potter references were a bit naff, but I liked it. It had witches! And a globe. I loved the shot of the pages being sucked out from behind the stage. It was lovely. I really like Martha. Almost as much as I liked Mickey. And we all know what they have in common. Yes. Their names both begin with M. Clearly a winning formula.
Anyway. This is my news. Also that internet cafes apparently open on Easter Sunday. Who knew.

Date: 2007-04-10 01:53 pm (UTC)Sayid winked at her! It was beautiful. And Josh Holloway kept grinning. I want to see Season 3 now. Very much. How far along are you with it?

Date: 2007-04-10 02:43 pm (UTC)Josh Holloway seems to do nothing but grinning in interviews. It's very sweet. Probably he's thinking 'I'm really pretty and famous and I work in Hawaii!', and that makes him grin. Which is fair enough.

Date: 2007-04-10 02:10 am (UTC)I'm assuming you didn't get the parcel. I hate the Royal Mail. They do this to me a LOT. Um. You will get another parcel someday. I DON'T KNOW WHEN. I liked that one, it was shiny. OH WELL.
I have a guilty crush on a shameful world leader, and was going to confide in you, but then I remembered that guilty crushes on ACTUAL BAD PEOPLE are NOT ON, and it was YOU YOURSELF who said the wise words "fiction is pretty much the ONLY PLACE it is okay to like killers". So I will keep my guilt UNDER MY HAT.
I love you dude, ja? Be full of gloire. Etcetera. *heartheartheartheartheart*

Date: 2007-04-10 01:59 pm (UTC)I didn't get the parcel! I waited for it for ages. I'm going to call the Royal Mail Care Line and complain, as my mum's birthday card didn't get there either. And I tried checking for it at the depot, but it turns out my postcode is served by one out near Bilborough??? And I don't know where that is.
I will point out the words "pretty much", but fine. Use my attempt to ease your guilt about fictional lust to drive a wedge between us! FYI, if the leader rules a country beginning with I and ending with N, with not very many letters in between, I've had someone else already tell me about that shame.
I love you too. Muchly. ::Gloires::
