Other things are going on in my life. Of course they are. Mostly when I say there's nothing going on in my life, I'm lying, but the things are pretty much in the planning stages and saying them makes me think I've done them, and then I realise there's more work. Which is quite bad. Do you want to hear another rundown of my next few weeks? YOU KNOW YOU DO. This weekend is free, except for doing all the jobs for last/next weekend, and getting mum a card and birthday present. Then I'm going back to my parents' the weekend after. The next weekend is free, except for jobs, and then I'm going back for the Medieval Festival, and from my parents' I'm planning to go down to Cornwall for a week (ish). I asked mum if she wanted to go with me, and she had some holiday in July. I'm not sure how cool it is to go on holidays with your parents when you're not generally accustomed to doing it, but I'm looking forward to it anyway. I was meant to be checking out B&B availabilities yesterday, but mum ended up doing it because my one hour-long lunch of the week was taken up with collecting a necklace. She did it last night I think. And then today she booked the trains (I think). Do you know how much it costs to get down to Cornwall on the train? A whole lot. And takes rather a long time. Especially on Sundays.

So yes. That's in a few weeks. BUT. Ever since I first heard about it I wanted to go see Little Shop of Horrors when it was on at the Playhouse. And it turns out it's on over that week we're meant to be in Cornwall. Except the Friday and Saturday, when I might possibly be back. I don't know if I will still go. I quite like the idea of finishing off the week in lovely countryside and the Eden Project with a play about a huge carnivorous murderous plant. But I don't know. Today I picked up a ticket for Sleeping Beauty On Ice though. The weekend I come back from Cornwall there will also be Splendour in the Park at Wollaton Hall, which I wouldn't mind going to the second day of. And at some point in early August the Royal Centre is also showing Swan Lake with some very good dance company. And there will also be Wanted, Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Female Agents and Hancock out over the next few weeks. And then Batman: The Dark Knight. And then Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

Figuring out how to fit this into a relatively small time frame and relatively small budget is taking up most of my time.

I'm not posting as much anymore because my prior activity as a bit of a fannish butterfly on crack appears to now be applying to the rest of my life, and I'm not sure how interesting that is.

I still quite like Farscape slash though.

No-one has said much about Euro 2008 football. I have randomly decided to start supporting Russia. Go Russia! Also I need to pot my plants. Some of them seem to have become infested with aphids. No-one told me that was a potential downside to having plants. Also I saw The Incredible Hulk. I love William Hurt. He is quite a beautiful general. Edward Norton was kind to mostly act like a rentboy as well. Hiding out in a bright orange hoodie. Whatever, Bruce Banner. But William Hurt was very good.

I'm pretty sure I sat near someone yesterday who had that.

I'm very tempted to go on a coach holiday to the Eden Project and Cornwall in a couple of weeks. My mum's giving me some money out of her semi-retirement package, and I would really like to go see the Eden Project. But my spring is pretty full up as it is. There's a jewellery show thing on next weekend that I was going to go see, and I'm seeing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (eee!) at the start of May, and then Simon Amstell at the end. And it would mean taking two days off work (I think) before having two bank holiday weekends and having to take at least half a day off to go to London for the Nick Cave concert. Still.

Last night on Emmerdale, Matthew was beautiful and went round to Carl's to quietly apologise and make him a cup of tea, and Carl just wasn't having any of it. And last night on Dirty Sexy Money, spoilers that I know did not get revealed, but I don't think they're doing a very good job of hiding them. Also, Nick went to see a spy to find out what his dad was looking into when he died, and the spy turned out to be Chandra Suresh. Probably it's only a matter of time before he turns back up to tell Nick he has superpowers. Or everyone else in the show.

Camping!

I love how they put "To Be Continued..." at the end of every episode of Heroes. As though you think they might suddenly stop, and not make any more.

Anyway. I went camping. Camping trip )

And that was my weekend. Slightly more in-depth than I'd planned it to be, but there you go.

And that man. That man was in Doctor Who, wasn't he? The man I'd been waiting for. And I can't find any downloads that don't make me cry. Aaaaahhhh. My parents taped it (hopefully), but I can't see it until I go home, which I'm next planning to do the weekend of the finale. DAMN IT.

I'm going to read the flist now. Except for Doctor Who. And watch Heroes. And probably sleep.

Camping

I'm going camping now for the weekend. The weather is not giving me great hope, but the bbc is telling me it might be quite sunny in Kent over the weekend, so we'll see. I've packed many books just in case. My packing is pretty much done, though mostly it made me realise how little stuff I have suitable for camping in wet fields. But there will probably be shops there. The washing up is not done. That will probably be unfortunate when I get back on Sunday. But there you go. There's always the take-away down the road. Anyway. I will be gone over the weekend. Have fun without me. I will be praying for sunshine from now till I get back, probably.

Bye!

I'm starting to think this camping thing was a bad idea. I sort of hadn't considered that I'd have to pay for anything besides the train journey down, and back, and a meal out with J's parents on Friday (as we're all going down together). Sometimes I do feel a bit like a menage a trois with K and J. But anyway. Now there's a pitching fee, though I might only have to pay half of it if someone shares my tent on Saturday. There's breakfast, even if K and J bring lunch and dinner. I don't have any good shoes for fields. I don't have a groundsheet. K and J might be giving me a groundsheet. I DON'T HAVE A BEACH TOWEL. All of which is sort of adding up. And the journey's starting to look a bit grim as well, considering that K and J want to come back on the coach, and if I want to go on the train I'll have to make my way from the campsite to the station on my own. And it will take about four hours anyway. It'll probably be fine. I can't exactly pull out on their birthdays anyway. I'd probably feel better if my legs were shaved.

In other news, Heroes continues apace. Will stuff happen? Won't it? Thrilling. And semi-crushes on 8-year old animated Jewish boys probably won't do anything for my credibility. But still <3.

The washing up isn't done. I'll probably have to work on that. And I got minarets through the post today, and something else. Cee is great. And so is Simon Pegg.

OH GOD IT'S WARM. Really, there's nothing quite like wandering around town for hours, stopping every five minutes to wipe the sweat from your brow/back. The annoyance has sort of gone away now I've been home for a while and not been moving around. Still.

50 minutes to Doctor Who. Which could be rubbish, but there you go. Oh, I have a question, actually. One that will probably be answered by tonight's next-episode spoiler, but anyway. ETA: Casting/character spoilers but possibly a big one for next week, although possibly not as it doesn't make much sense )

And yes, I'm going camping next weekend. It's a trip for K+J's collective birthdays, and it might be cold and wet, and hellish to get to given that it's in Kent, but I'm still quite looking forward to it. Apparently there might be "swimming in the sea", which means I probably ought to do some sort of hair removal. Hmph.

I was annoyed last night because I ordered South Park Series 1 from Amazon on Monday (and before you judge, it was on VHS for £5.75 when the other set was £70, and the DVDs are as much as £90 or £100. And also I love it), but it hadn't failed to be delivered by last night. So I was going to have to wait for it to fail to be delivered this week, and then rearrange for it sending to a Post Office, and then wait for two weeks to pick it up, and pay 50p along the way. "Unless", I thought, "it gets delivered on Saturday, while I'm at home, and the postman buzzes up, and I just get to have it". This seemed like a vague hope, though. But it happened, pure and true, and now I have the videos, hurrah! That's tonight's plan sorted.

I had a plan to read all of the Harry Potters I haven't already before the seventh comes out, and even before the film comes out since the fifth one's the last one I haven't read, but it's sort of failed so far. I thought I might get a move on with it this weekend, but now there's Doctor Who, and South Park, and I really ought to watch the video of Daria I got a few weeks back so I can leave feedback, and after thoroughly deleting all my old game files I've finally managed to download the first episode of Heroes, and if I do anything else apart from that, I'd sort of planned that it would be Drop the Dead Donkey. So. Yeah.

Whoops.

Holiday Report part 2 )

So now we're back home and the dog's a bit ill and I have to figure out how to get moved in in Nottingham in less than a week. I'm aiming for the weekend, so that I'll be there for the free press showing of Land of the Dead on Monday (John Leguizamo! Eee!), but there is lots to do. And things to buy. But it turns out I have more money than I thought I did, 'cause of dad, which is nice. Still not enough to justify an £80 Ted Baker jacket though.

Films: I'm very much looking forward to films this winter. I may have to buy a calendar just to inform me when all the release dates are so I can plan my life accordingly. I got the new Total Film on Friday, and it had a Winter Preview, and omg. Films. And it came with a Winter Preview DVD, which is so much better than the last free DVD they handed out, and is basically just a little disc full of trailers for all the good films coming out this winter. Except Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which is annoying, but still. Films. Narnia. The Brother's Grimm. Night Watch!! Harry Potter. King Kong. Serenity. Which is far prettier and shinier than it out to be, and I've never fancied Jayne before, but he unzipped his jacket wearing glasses and I was lost. I'm really quite tempted to buy a ticket to the Nottingham premiere, seeing-the-DVDs be damned! And I have money, so...perhaps yes. If there are any left.

Reading: Dracula. For uni. Which is long. And scary. And good. And I read the preface about Dracula and Victorian England, and started thinking about Dracula/Soames Forsyte and had to put it down. Not that Dracula needs Soames with Jonathon Harker around, of course - their love is so 'they've had sex already haven't they'? And there's a nice article in the back about 'the homoerotic history of Dracula', and there should really be articles like that the back of every book everywhere. And Carl King might get involved in it all. I don't know.

Nottingham uni have sent me a nice pack of something to tell me how to cope with coming back to uni, which is sweet. Probably I'll look at that now. But I love you all, and happy for the ones in a nice pink house, and happy for the ones moving into Preston, mwah!
girlofprey: (R for raygun)
Am return-ed! And had a fairly decent time, for the most part. Aside from the waiting around for/screaming arguments with my sister. But that's neither here nor there. I'll tell you one thing, I'm glad to be getting out of here and back to Nottingham in a week or so. I only wish I could somehow take mum and dad and Jack with me.

Anyway. Holiday report )
girlofprey: (Red bodice)
Well, the dog is gone to a nice doggy home for the weekend. And seemed awfully excited about it all too, poor lad. The last few times we've sent him away during the holidays he's come back slightly...traumatised. But this is for only a few days, not weeks, and it's to a nice proper dog home, rather than my dad's cousin's 'kennels'. So I am sure it will all work out fine. Yes.

Shoppering )

While I was in town I saw the manager from the Charity shop, come outside for a smoke, and she informed me that the shop building was actually quite old, and used to be a house and shop, and had X many ghosts, so she daren't go up to the top floor on her own. I wondered why I hadn't been told this before, perhaps. Then she revealed that there was a cellar under the shop, which had been blocked up when they fitted out the new shop, and there were in fact cellars under every shop either in the row or in the town, and they all connected, and in the olden days people used to hold black markets down there! And they continued to connect to a set of tunnels that ran all the way to the castle, which the kings and queens escaped down, in the even more olden days. Which is incredibly interesting, and slightly scary. Learn something new every day!

Oh, and someone wrote Nine/Mickey fic. I am happy :)

Still need to pack. And possibly wrap Katie's birthday present. Possibly in a plastic bag. Probably this will be my last post for a bit then. Probably I'll post lots of stupid little titbits throughout the night. But after tonight - yes. Farewell.
girlofprey: (R for raygun - sandintheglass)
That time of the month yesterday. I was in so much pain. Mostly I laid down and didn't move. My sister thinks I should start taking Codeine for it all. I think Hmm. But I can put off buying a new swimming costume for a while, I think.

Almost finished 1984. Potential spoilers )

Today, went into town with mother today, and it was lovely, if a bit cold. We passed travel shops, and she made suggestions of taking a few days of work at some point so she and I - just she and I - could go on a trip, say to Brighton or Rome or Prague. I responded with interest and joy. It is not Cuba, but hurrah all the same!

If any of you want to go to Cuba with me, I am essentially already on the plane. Right now if needs be. I am so not kidding.

Anyway, we had burgers in our town's nicest cafe hurrah, and bought things. There was a new Total Film out, which was a nice suprise. They are remaking The Hitcher apparently. I have no words. I was tempted by a 'Cultural History of Russia' book, but decided against it. Someday I will write you a list of books I own but have not read. It is horrendous. Also got Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on DVD because it was £10, as opposed to the shocking £17 other shops try to charge. I am a whore for the pretty yes. Ah well. Ooh, and Betty Boop socks. There were Harry Potter scarves in WH Smith's, but only Gryffindor, so I left them where they lay. Slytherin would have been a different matter. But they were not Slytherin. So hmph.

Asked a few places about work as well, but no luck :( Although I'm holding out some hope for work at the local museum and castle - even voluntary would probably be interesting, and look decent on a CV ::holds out some hope::

Went into the library as well to ask, and perused their CDs for rental. Tori Amos! Nick Cave! For only a pound! Think I will be going back, perhaps, yes :D

I want to see Veronica Mars now. Even though I know quite a few huge season spoilers. Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto!

Anyway. Town Liquorice Festival starts tomorrow. Medieval day at the castle - hawking and handcrafts and crystals, oh my. I am a vat of barely contained yay. Hurrah :)
