Doctor Who: Journey's End )

I missed the start of Sleeping Beauty on Ice because I got caught up watching Doctor Who, not realising it was an hour-long episode. Sleeping Beauty on Ice was good though. Particularly when I got to sit in my seat near the front rather than at the back because of lateness. I like how the Lilac Fairy gayed it up with Princess Aurora. A lot of the characters looked like they were out of The Tribe, and I may not be too good at interpreting stories purely through dance yet, but it was good. They are very good skaters, those Imperial Ice Stars. It was a bit confusing because the Wicked Fairy was clearly played by a man, but still referred to as a she, but one of her followers was a woman who got to do her own special skating and was clearly her girlfriend. I couldn't quite work out what they were saying there. But it was good and I enjoyed it. Hurray!

Army of Ghosts - ep spoilers, and probably for next week's trailer )

Counting down the days to next week.

Hello!

Jun. 7th, 2006 07:23 pm
girlofprey: (R for raygun)
I deleted because of the thing. The breastfeeding thing. You know the one.

Anyway. I'M GOING TO LONDON TOMORROW! TO SEE HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU! AND ALL THE PEOPLE! I'm quite excited, and hope there will be sunshine. Since it turns out you cannot just magically change the destinations on tickets, I'm going to have to get a two-hour train to Nottingham to get a two-hour train London, rather than just getting a two hour train to London from Leeds. I plan to take books. It's a situation in which the Lemony Snicket 6 audiobook would come in very handy, but it's really my own fault for not buying it. Anyway, the point of this is that I will in fact be in St Pancras when I said I would, and I can text [livejournal.com profile] jekesta or you/she can text me if something happens otherwise. And I SEE YOU TOMORROW! Yay :)

Outside of Exciting Trips: mostly I have been filing. It has slightly lost its novelty, after 24 or so collective hours. I've learned to hate people who put in documents to be filed without putting the job/file number on them. But its okay, because I have a plan. I'm going to train to be a ninja, silently break into their houses at night, put a sword over their necks while they are sleeping, and leave notes saying 'I could have killed you, and did not. Please put the file numbers on your documents'. Yes.

And otherwise I've been slightly mobbed by plotbunnies for Toby from Doctor Who. Spoilers/talk about The Impossible Planet )

Also, my dad has a button in his car marked TA/RDS

If it turns out he is a Time Lord, I will be immensely pleased.

This was my day.
girlofprey: (GW Anaesthesia's New Rock and Roll)
Hello. I'm back in Yorkshire, probably for keeps. Shocked? Yes, well so was I when, casually slobbing it in Nottingham yesterday morning, looking forward to another day of sea, sun and Sawyer, my dad called to ask me if I wanted a job filing at his engineering company in Leeds. And given that I've been complaining about money, ooh, forever, the answer was yes. Which made my housemates cry slightly, since we had about 3 hours to celebrate the end of all our exams. But 40 hours a week at £6 an hour beckoned, and I could not deny that call. So I'm a working girl now. My feet hurt.

Some spazzing about that )

Mostly I'm pleased because if I keep it up I can totally buy all those DVDs I've been coveting, and pay off my Connotations deposit. And apparently they won't mind me taking days off to get my results and go a-fanning in London - though I might need to rearrange meeting places and times, if I change my ticket. And, yes, I'll have temping experience and something to put on my CV. But mostly MONEY! And the wearing of 'professional' shirts.

So...that was my day. Also, I'm going to see kittens later. And I watched the 'Mickey is LOVE!' episode of Dr Who, and can reward myself with a [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj screencap re-cap. But how are you guys? 24-hour internet and MSN Messenger, baby!
girlofprey: (Mickey The Rest of Us)
I am going to Connotations. YAY!

Green Wing 2.7 )

Dr Who 5 - with possible spoilers for next week, they're not verified )

Back to the essays.

Me again

May. 2nd, 2006 11:57 am
girlofprey: (Studying too Hard)
So I'm finished with all my preliminary essays and seminar work, as of this morning. Now I can focus on my essays. One of which is due in next Thursday. Then one the next Monday, and one the next Thursday. But I've done a quick survey (of my housemates and, like, two other people) and apparently everyone is feeling much the same stress and has done about the same work, except for the ones killing themselves with Dissertations. So I get to blame the weather and season and general mood, I think. Spring is a rubbish time to do essays anyway, all sunny and distracting with the promise of things to come. And there's always a sunny heatwave during exam periods, before the thunderstorms of summer, damn it. But at least it'll all be over in 3 weeks.

I comfort myself with good TV. Doctor Who and Green Wing talk )

In conclusion: tired, should be doing lots of work, will probably end up going to see Slither in town instead. Not even pretending to not be eyeing the flist anymore, though sporadically. This may end soon. Catch you later.

Things

I wanted to go see Mirrormask tonight, since it is finally released in this country. Is Birmingham the nearest place it's showing? OH, I THINK IT IS.

Bought the new Dr Who magazine today, with Mickey on the front cover. I love paying for things with my debit card, you can pretend they didn't cost anything at all. But Mickey. Slight spoilers for DW 10 )

And now I need to go home before my retinas burn out.

Still no word on the Crime and Punishment DVD.

Probably I'm going to keep talking about it, in apathetic protest, until there is.

New Who

New Who! )

In other news, Black and White 2 is a hideous bitch and I hate it. First it complains that there is not enough space on my hard drive to support its MASSIVE weight, then when I delete things (things I use! Things I love!), it takes up so much space I can't install the other game. And then it takes about five hours to get started, and FREEZES UP before I even manage to start a new game! Three times! Forcing me to crash my computer, three times! You better believe I uninstalled it. Back to the shop for IT! The Movies, on the other hand, is working perfectly, and I love it. Hopefully it will one day let me write slashy films. Then I will love it even more.

In other other news: £15 WH Smith voucher from sister. £100 cash from grandma. Sorted :)
girlofprey: (Red bodice)
Well, the dog is gone to a nice doggy home for the weekend. And seemed awfully excited about it all too, poor lad. The last few times we've sent him away during the holidays he's come back slightly...traumatised. But this is for only a few days, not weeks, and it's to a nice proper dog home, rather than my dad's cousin's 'kennels'. So I am sure it will all work out fine. Yes.

Shoppering )

While I was in town I saw the manager from the Charity shop, come outside for a smoke, and she informed me that the shop building was actually quite old, and used to be a house and shop, and had X many ghosts, so she daren't go up to the top floor on her own. I wondered why I hadn't been told this before, perhaps. Then she revealed that there was a cellar under the shop, which had been blocked up when they fitted out the new shop, and there were in fact cellars under every shop either in the row or in the town, and they all connected, and in the olden days people used to hold black markets down there! And they continued to connect to a set of tunnels that ran all the way to the castle, which the kings and queens escaped down, in the even more olden days. Which is incredibly interesting, and slightly scary. Learn something new every day!

Oh, and someone wrote Nine/Mickey fic. I am happy :)

Still need to pack. And possibly wrap Katie's birthday present. Possibly in a plastic bag. Probably this will be my last post for a bit then. Probably I'll post lots of stupid little titbits throughout the night. But after tonight - yes. Farewell.
girlofprey: (Mickey Bitch)
Mickey will be back in the new Doctor Who! ::dances::

Also K9, which is probably of more interest to fans. And Anthony Stewart Head! But they said Mickey was a 'sidekick', which probably doesn't mean companion, but it could, which means Mickey All The Time, but Mickey some of the time at least, and ::dances::

Also; I am here. And it feels like for true anonymity and the rules of the meme I shouldn't be telling, but everyone else is, and I don't actually know the girl who's journal contains the meme, so probably there'll be no point if I don't. And you don't have to love me. You can just say things. Any things. But yes. It is there.
girlofprey: (Craig!!)
Gardening I did today. The woodlice and ants of our garden know me now as 'The Oncoming Storm' :) After years of giving dad evil eyes whenever he asked, I volunteered for a few hours. I was quite bored. I got quite dirty. But it was satisfying. Hurrah.

[livejournal.com profile] jekesta has made her site infinitely more beautiful by adding links to pages that tell you how to make your own lovely website, in English rather than some form of binary code. The part about most 'How to Make a Website' being horrendously hard to navigate is so true I cry. I have a tripod account now. Time will tell if I use it.

I want an icon of John McClane saying 'I'm in your base, killing your doods!'. More than words can say (A quick review of my poll results shows that only Jekesta learned the lesson of this. The rest of you perhaps should buy lion-repellent or something)

This scares me.

I approve of this.

That said, three good things of today are:

  • Cadbury's trifle desserts (mmm)

  • The Sugar Mile by Glyn Maxwell (What's so important in the world that you can't/stop the ride a moment,/open a little black/empty book/and remind the world you're blue? There's not a thing./Burning building? Nothing.)

  • The Dr Who Minor Character's Ficathon. I am tempted by potential Mickey!fic. And I have a semi-bunny to write something about the Editor when he was young, 'working his way up the ranks'. But I'm not so good at writing fic for myself, let alone someone else. I don't know. Hmm.

I am worrying now because my sister has told me that drinking a can of coke a day increases your risk of developing diabetes by 65%. Even though I used to drink it practically 24/7 when I was a child. I wouldn't mind so much except that she tells me these things, and then looks all suprised and laughs at me when I actually take them on board in any way and change what I do. Annoying. Hm.
girlofprey: (Zaphod! - yorda_)
Went to town with grandmother and mum today. She bought me cake! In our little town's vaguely posh cafe-thing. There is a brand new 'cafe-bar' nearby, which serves onion rings and whatnot, but I did not think my grandmother would be able to sit on the seats, or if she could, get back up again. Still, it requires further investigation in the summer (aka next week), I think. Hmm. The cake came with a huge dollop of ice-cream, which the waitress did not mention was 85p extra, the cunning hag, but grandmother was paying so its all the same to me. There was another cake which my mother and I thought was called Sex and Toffee, which was tempting, but it turned out to be Texan Toffee, and all gone (no suprise, frankly), so we had other cake, and I felt a bit sick but happy :)

Yay, I have £360! Sort of. I'm not sure if the £110 for [livejournal.com profile] connotations has gone out yet - awaiting my next bank statement. But I owe dad £200 for rent anyway. So slightly less money. But more than yesterday, perhaps. Enough for things. And no-one told me The White Stripes had a new album out! I caused a slight disaster getting it down to look at it in Tesco's, but I am tempted. Oh yes I am. The songs have pretty names. Hmm.

East of Eden is out on DVD :D. Though sadly very expensively. Btw, WH Smith and Tesco CD/DVD prices kick the arse of so-called CD/DVD shops ::looks at you, HMV and Virgin:: Hmm.

The father of my sister's baby almost went to jail. But didn't. They've reduced his fines, apparently. A part of me is slightly disappointed, but he does seem to be helping her out a lot, so yes. Hm.

Lolita is sort of pissing me off. I don't know. I sort of like it. When Lolita is not around. Not that I dislike her, she seems like a perfectly nice kid, but Mr Humbert does have a nasty tendency to go off into flowery, intoxicated, showers-of-gold (not like that)-type speech, which makes me roll my eyes until I go blind and pass out. But all the other adults seem so annoying compared to him that you can't help but like him...until you realise you're only seeing them through his possibly self-delusional paedophilia-celebrating eyes and you just want to choke him again. Hmm. I will finish it though. I'd like to see where the story goes, even if we pretty much know what happens to Humbert Humbert. I am sort of in love with the girl on the front cover though. With her painted nails and Dorothy dress and pretty is-she-19-or-is-she-12? face, and sunshine and grass. Mmm.

I have begun writing what will hopefully turn out to be a nice Mickey/Rose/Doctor/Jack piece. With, yes, much focus on Mickey, who doesn't get much fic-love from anyone but me, le sigh.

Thoughts on why I like him so )

What's this about Billie Piper leaving Who after the first series anyway? It's new to me.

Hmm. I quite like these long posts, although I worry they bore the Hell out of everyone else. One advantage of being at home (when the computer's free, anyway ::eyeroll...::).
girlofprey: (Zaphod! - yorda_)
Boom Town spoilers )

Other thoughts:

@ Grandma, you gave me £30 for no good reason. I love you.
@ What is this about 100 user icons for permanent accounts? What what what?
