  • I finished 1984 last night.

  • I also watched the last ever episode of Angel

  • I am also currently shipping Angel/Lindsey, which is just the doomedest pairing that ever doomed, and all the fic I read only seems to confirm it.

  • My head is not in a happy place at the moment :(

Also:

  • I appear to have a disturbing crush on George Orwell. I entirely blame the picture of him that was on Have I Got Old News For You the other week. Hmm.

  • I also have an odd crush on Orson Welles, which might be confusing if you're trying to remember whether I love Orwell or Orson Welles, but just remember it's both and you'll be okay.

'Twas quite lovely. Note my use of the medieval pronunciation. None of my friends were going, so I ended up waiting till 2 for mum to get out of work and go. We were going to take the baby, but he was sleeping, and needed feeding, and it would just have taken too long. So yes, lateness, but it was lovely all the same. Hugely sunny. I had some liquorice stout, which didn't make me want to throw up, and saw an exploding maypole, and weapons, and harps being made, and medieval dancing, and they played Gaudete over the big speakerphones and ::dances::

Also numerous dead stuffed things. And a knight on a scooter horse. And - highlight of the day - a real live raven! Apparently the child of a Tower Raven and their bit of rough, I guess. I don't know. Fucking huge, but lovely really. I don't understand when people are all 'crows and ravens are so ugly' ::growls them:: I even got to hold her on my hand, via a non-clawing mitt and tether. Heavy cow. But lovely. Made my day :)

Things getting moved into my sister's house with vans. Very oooh. I sense the end of her stay here approaching.

Further miscellany )

Liquorice Day tomorrow. I look on with hope. Perhaps there will be an entire Unkindness there, who knows? (anyone who gets that will have my undying gratitude and probably pie of some kind)

That time of the month yesterday. I was in so much pain. Mostly I laid down and didn't move. My sister thinks I should start taking Codeine for it all. I think Hmm. But I can put off buying a new swimming costume for a while, I think.

Almost finished 1984. Potential spoilers )

Today, went into town with mother today, and it was lovely, if a bit cold. We passed travel shops, and she made suggestions of taking a few days of work at some point so she and I - just she and I - could go on a trip, say to Brighton or Rome or Prague. I responded with interest and joy. It is not Cuba, but hurrah all the same!

If any of you want to go to Cuba with me, I am essentially already on the plane. Right now if needs be. I am so not kidding.

Anyway, we had burgers in our town's nicest cafe hurrah, and bought things. There was a new Total Film out, which was a nice suprise. They are remaking The Hitcher apparently. I have no words. I was tempted by a 'Cultural History of Russia' book, but decided against it. Someday I will write you a list of books I own but have not read. It is horrendous. Also got Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on DVD because it was £10, as opposed to the shocking £17 other shops try to charge. I am a whore for the pretty yes. Ah well. Ooh, and Betty Boop socks. There were Harry Potter scarves in WH Smith's, but only Gryffindor, so I left them where they lay. Slytherin would have been a different matter. But they were not Slytherin. So hmph.

Asked a few places about work as well, but no luck :( Although I'm holding out some hope for work at the local museum and castle - even voluntary would probably be interesting, and look decent on a CV ::holds out some hope::

Went into the library as well to ask, and perused their CDs for rental. Tori Amos! Nick Cave! For only a pound! Think I will be going back, perhaps, yes :D

I want to see Veronica Mars now. Even though I know quite a few huge season spoilers. Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto!

Anyway. Town Liquorice Festival starts tomorrow. Medieval day at the castle - hawking and handcrafts and crystals, oh my. I am a vat of barely contained yay. Hurrah :)

Whee, am back! Two nights of partying later. Well, semi-partying and rain. I survive unscathed. Mostly. Hmm.

Adventures! )

Got up at 9, unlike the rest of them lazy losers. Tiptoed round for awhile - got dad to give me a lift home (:D) at 12. Whereupon I decided to round of the day with a trip to Leeds. Spend some money before I realised I'd got none. Hurrah!

Shopping! )

Things I shouldn't want:
  • The Wicked Musical tie-in. Because it is exactly the same as the Wicked on my shelf. Except for the pretty pictures....

  • The Hero graphic novel. Let's concentrate on the film first, hmm? Sigh.

Read some more of 1984 - halfway through now. Hurray for Julia, the life-loving ho! It's interesting that the Junior Anti-Sex League sash is red though. Like Little Red Riding Hood's cape. That the most sexually-charged colour (in general opinion, anyway, I think) is often used literarily as a sign of chastity. Or a warning against sexual desire, I guess. And that it's always associated with women - you never hear about the gentleman in red, or red male 'chastity garments'. Hmm.

I'll balance this objectification with a quote of wonder from marvellous Six Feet Under, however: 'A lady wears red, she means business' - :D
girlofprey: (call_me_daisy)
Thunderbolts and lightning. Very, very frightening. Spent a brief moment wondering if you could somehow get hit by lightning in the bath. Ah well. At least I'm not half-melted anymore.

Teh Buffy )

Six Feet Under )

I go through fandoms too quickly. This is clearly not right. Apart from the fandomslut issues, it means I never have a chance to get into any one fandom deep enough to actually do anything in it (like fic), and at the end I'm left with nothing, except a beautiful beautiful dream and some pretty icons. And I'm reading 1984 now - a bit odd since I know most of the plot, but ah well - and crushing pretty hard on Winston and Julia already. This will not end well I feel. Teh sigh.

Final thought, randomly related to the Bad Wolf/Tardis!Rose glory of last night: according to some book, the Ancient Greeks called the first light of dawn the lycauges(?), or 'Wolf Light'. Hmm...
