That time of the month yesterday. I was in so much pain. Mostly I laid down and didn't move. My sister thinks I should start taking Codeine for it all. I think Hmm. But I can put off buying a new swimming costume for a while, I think.
Almost finished 1984. I'm into Part 3 anyway, and pretty much scared of everything. In the book and out of it. I'm quite a lot horrified of what Julia must have been turned into ::pets her::. And I know the end of - well, Winston - is going to have something to do with his mother and sister and what a hideous little brat he was when he was a child, and that's is probably going to make a horrible kind of sense. It's especially unnerving since I've read Nietzche and Foucault, and know that there is actually quite a lot in the idea that 'reality' is shaped by our minds, and that we can control it by controlling them. But I assumed there would be a group of people at the head of the Party controlling 'reality' for their own ends, out of selfishness, and I'm starting to realise it's not - like it says in Goldstein's book, the more control they have, the more insane they have to be, or the Party won't last. It's not about controlling the populace - it's about destroying what makes us human, independent. And that's fucking scary. I read on withhorror tears interest.
Also, O'Brien clearly fancies Winston a bit. Yes.
Today, went into town with mother today, and it was lovely, if a bit cold. We passed travel shops, and she made suggestions of taking a few days of work at some point so she and I - just she and I - could go on a trip, say to Brighton or Rome or Prague. I responded with interest and joy. It is not Cuba, but hurrah all the same!
If any of you want to go to Cuba with me, I am essentially already on the plane. Right now if needs be. I am so not kidding.
Anyway, we had burgers in our town's nicest cafe hurrah, and bought things. There was a new Total Film out, which was a nice suprise. They are remaking The Hitcher apparently. I have no words. I was tempted by a 'Cultural History of Russia' book, but decided against it. Someday I will write you a list of books I own but have not read. It is horrendous. Also got Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on DVD because it was £10, as opposed to the shocking £17 other shops try to charge. I am a whore for the pretty yes. Ah well. Ooh, and Betty Boop socks. There were Harry Potter scarves in WH Smith's, but only Gryffindor, so I left them where they lay. Slytherin would have been a different matter. But they were not Slytherin. So hmph.
Asked a few places about work as well, but no luck :( Although I'm holding out some hope for work at the local museum and castle - even voluntary would probably be interesting, and look decent on a CV ::holds out some hope::
Went into the library as well to ask, and perused their CDs for rental. Tori Amos! Nick Cave! For only a pound! Think I will be going back, perhaps, yes :D
I want to see Veronica Mars now. Even though I know quite a few huge season spoilers. Damn you,
ship_manifesto!
Anyway. Town Liquorice Festival starts tomorrow. Medieval day at the castle - hawking and handcrafts and crystals, oh my. I am a vat of barely contained yay. Hurrah :)

Ooh holiday with just you and mother sounds most yayful. When I was I think 22 I went to somewhere in greece with mother. Somewhere on an island. It began with a Th. Holidays are good. What is in Cuba? Do you want to run away with me to there? Will it be toohot?
I do not like liquorice. I feel like making a sign and visiting the festival. Hm.

I am fairly yayful about it :D Ideally, I would like to go places with my friends, but...they never have no money. Whereas mother has excess, to spend on me! And we tend to have lots of fun on our own. I may have to go out drinking with her though...
Cuba is just generally wonderful, as far as I can tell. They have crocodile farms and invent rum. I want very much to go, before Castro dies and they start selling coke everywhere and scrapping the 1950s cars. It is...hardly hot at all. Cool, one might even say ::is not lying:: Shall I book the tickets now?
I can't stand liquorice either - maybe I should make a sign. But there will be stalls and bands and hawking and general yay. And no liquorice at all tomorrow. Not until Liquorice Day, on Sunday. To which you are more than welcome to come with signs ::tempts you:: ;)
