girlofprey: (Christmas Polar Bear Present)
Hello. I was at my parents' for the weekend. And then for Monday and Tuesday, since my youngest nephew's Christmas party at his playgroup was on Tuesday, and I decided to stay for that. Which was lovely even if he did get bored and wander away before Santa got round to giving him a present.

These are some of the things that happened over the weekend:

  • I spent part of Friday crying in the street over my housing benefit claim, after going to the Jobcentre to get proof I asked for it when I called at the beginning of September, and was finally told after asking about it for a month or so that there was no sign on my claim that I had asked for any housing benefit. They sent me off to the council office to get another form, and I ended up having to stand at one side of the street and cry before I could get on and go get the form. I did get quite upset about a pair of pyjamas I'd asked for for Christmas having apparently sold out (the thing I went out looking for on Wednesday night) and about the fact that this week's Misfits looked like it might have a horrible, sad ending though, and I started my period the next day, so I think my hormones were probably all over the place, as much as anything. I was told the only thing I could do to prove I asked for housing benefit now was try to get the transcript of my original call, which I sent a letter off asking for yesterday. Hopefully that will work, but I'm not really expecting much at this point.

  • Tony was back in Coronation Street briefly, looking a mess and asking about Maria a lot, asking if she was alright, and if Carla thought she'd ever forgive him. Love.

  • I went to Leeds with my mother on Saturday, and the pyjamas that I'd asked for, which were sold out in Nottingham and on the website, and not available in my size on ebay, were there. In my size. Hurrah. And then I found a scarf in Marks and Spencers which I'd loved, and thought had also sold out or wasn't being sold anymore. And my mum bought it for me for Christmas. Double hurrah :)

  • I had horrible period pains for most of Sunday and which kept me awake for a lot of Sunday night as well. Despite my taking my mefanemic acid, which was unfortunate, and I hope will not be the case when I have my next few periods.

  • I did watch Elf on Sunday though, which was not as good as I thought it was going to be, storywise, but still pretty funny.

  • Oh, and I ordered my oldest nephew's Christmas present online, which should arrive at my parents' some time this week. Which only leaves my mum, youngest nephew and grandmother, and I have a few sort of ideas for my mum and youngest nephew, and my grandmother probably won't care what I give her. So hopefully my Christmas shopping will be basically done soon.

  • My dad called me a parasite, which was nice. We were talking, a little, about holidays, and he mentioned Rome this year and said "That'll be the last time you come on holiday with us. You're a parasite". And he was sort of joking at the time, but thinking about it afterwards, it really quite upset me. I spoke to my mum and she said to take no notice of him, and that it was his idea, apparently, to ask me to come along in the first place. Still, it wasn't very nice to hear. Coming from my dad and everything.

  • On a lighter note, I went to town and to see my grandmother and had a bath and washed my hair on Monday. It was a bit win, even if it did end up taking most of the day and some of the night. But South Park was on during the night, so that was pretty good too.

  • My youngest nephew apparently now calls me "Ee-a". Or "Aych" (Rach). Which is quite sweet.

Today, after getting hardly any sleep and still having to fill in my Jobseeker's job-hunting diary at the last minute, I got down to the Jobcentre a little bit late and had an interview with an advisor rather than a regular signing on session. I'm guessing because it's been about three months since I first signed on. They have moved me up to weekly appointments now, rather than fornightly ones, to "give me as much help as they can" in getting back to work. And the next one was next Wednesday, and I had to explain that I was going back to my parents' on Friday or Saturday and staying until Christmas, at least, and I had to fill in a holiday form. But at least that's sorted now, aside from the annoying extra appointments. But they probably won't make much difference really, since I'm probably either going to get this job - I heard about the full-time one last week, I didn't get it, so I'm just waiting to hear about the part-time one now - or I'm going to move back into my parents' house, probably, within the next few months. But I've got to go to the appointments until I know about the job, one way or the other, anyway.

Another thing I was doing last night was looking at Pirates of the Caribbean slash, of all things. I can't actually believe, frankly, that a fandom as big as that, that's been going on for years, doesn't have a single piece of Norrington/Barbossa slash. Not one, that I could find. Besides [livejournal.com profile] whatho's drabble. Which was brills, but even so. What up, fandom?

Yesterday I left my flat to find a dead pigeon in my courtyard. I called my landlords twice about it and got no reply. I went on to develop quite horrible period cramps, tried sticking it out after the main secretary and my boss really said it wasn't a good time for me to go home because she'd be completely on her own, until I developed quite bad stomach, back and thigh cramps and started feeling very nauseous and asked if actually I could go home a little bit early. I had quite a painful bus journey back to my flat, then laid down and watched TV for a few hours, and a dvd. I got up, went to the shop to buy some chocolatse and ordered a pizza because I didn't feel like cooking. Then the cramps and the nausea came back, the pizza hadn't turned up an hour after I called, so I called back and found out the driver had been but my intercom wasn't working and he hadn't had the credit to call my phone. So I waited another half an hour or so, having to keep going outside when I didn't really want to move, past the pigeon, to see if he had arrived.

Then when he came, the pizza was cold, he'd brought me a diet coke instead of a regular coke, and I was feeling so ill the smell of the pizza made me want to throw up. I went to bed at 10.30, because there was no point me staying up, having had two jaffa cakes and a few lines of a chocolate bar since I got in, spent at least an hour trying to get comfortable/wait for the cramps to wear off, and woke up at some point this morning, laid a wake for a bit, before finally checking the clock and finding out it was 5:11 am.

It was not my best of days.

Today, after going to sleep just wehn my alarms were going off and waking up at about quarter to nine, I called up to say I wouldn't be in to work, probably. I laid around in bed, feeling guilty, because once again there was onbly one secretary form our teamn there, and she was going on holiday next week, and the docotr I am actually a secretary to was going on holiday next week, as well as her SHO, so would possibly have lots of stuff to do. I finally, feling half alright, went into work, got stopped by roadworks for a little while, and got there at about 3:00. Then left at 4:30. Then went to see my landlords, and found out they don't deal with dead animals on the property. Then went to see the Dark Knight again, while it was still on the big screen, as I had been planning to yesterday. I still love the Joker dskjfhkjasdsgdahsakfdjslakdj.

It sikes me, as it has before, that the Dark Knight is sort of like a Cinderella story. Although a version where Cinderella kills the guards and sets fire to the palace.

In other news: I can't believe no-one's written any Fracture slash. Almost every scene with them together features Crawford looking at Willie like he's in love with him. I fantasise sometimes about Crawfoird trying to lick out all the slurred consonants and elongated vowels from Willie's mouth. And the phrase 'fucking the Prosecution'. If it wasn't for the unfortunate subplot of misogyny in the film, I would like it a whole lot more. And I watched an episode of House today. I like Cuddy. I do not like House. There was a bit where Cuddy almost electrocuted him. If only he hadn't moved away.

Also, any shortcomings the film Step Brothers is more than made up for by the singing scene. And the hug. And the sister-in-law. All those things are great.

The flat inspection is actually next Tuesday. Which I found out when I found the letter while tidying the flat.

I had a sort of star-studded dream last night. Shia LeBeouf was definitely there, as well as John Lithgow and Christian Slater, briefly. I can't remember most of it, but some of it was definitely a new version of the Incredible Hulk. He was fighting some ooze. John Lithgow was the ooze in human form. And it all got a bit slashy towards the end.

Speaking of star-studded, I don't think I talked about trailers last week. I went to see two films on Tuesday, the Dark Knight (again), because work was a bit stressful and I thought a dose of Decent Film would cheer me up, and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, because I noticed they were showing it two weeks in advance for one day only. I saw many trailers. Burn After Reading, the new Coen brothers one, was one of them, and dude. There's not a person in that that's not a star, is there? It didn't give you much idea what it was about though. A Total Film article on it a few months ago said it was a monster movie, I think. I'm not entirely sure. Also, there's going to be another Will Ferrell movie out soon. I've not heard much about it, but it's bringing back the winning pairing of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly from Talladega Nights, so I'm assuming it'll be half-decent. And it's nice of them to put Al Pacino and Robert De Niro together in another film, since I never got round to seeing Heat. It's very nice of them to put them together in a film with John Leguizamo. I might be able to slash him with someone. That would be grand.

And now I need to go have a shower. Dang.

I'm pretty sure I sat near someone yesterday who had that.

I'm very tempted to go on a coach holiday to the Eden Project and Cornwall in a couple of weeks. My mum's giving me some money out of her semi-retirement package, and I would really like to go see the Eden Project. But my spring is pretty full up as it is. There's a jewellery show thing on next weekend that I was going to go see, and I'm seeing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (eee!) at the start of May, and then Simon Amstell at the end. And it would mean taking two days off work (I think) before having two bank holiday weekends and having to take at least half a day off to go to London for the Nick Cave concert. Still.

Last night on Emmerdale, Matthew was beautiful and went round to Carl's to quietly apologise and make him a cup of tea, and Carl just wasn't having any of it. And last night on Dirty Sexy Money, spoilers that I know did not get revealed, but I don't think they're doing a very good job of hiding them. Also, Nick went to see a spy to find out what his dad was looking into when he died, and the spy turned out to be Chandra Suresh. Probably it's only a matter of time before he turns back up to tell Nick he has superpowers. Or everyone else in the show.
