Weekend

[livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes was here this weekend. She was great. We watched Emmerdale, and went to a very bizarre late-night Simon Amstell gig, and explored the gaping underground chasm vaguely near my flat, and watched Iron Man, and discussed how fandom is just RUBBISH at pairings, and she watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with me, and Arrested Development, and Suburban Shootout, and Dr Who, and today we had a truly memorable experience at the Tales of Robin Hood. It started with a live falcon (which was possibly a different bird), and ended with learning that green dye was actually poisonous back in Robin Hood's day, and in between there was a jaunty song about the rape of the Sabine Women, which it turns out was Sobbin' Women from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than a cheerful incitement to rape sung by and for a band of outlaws in an Errol Flynn-era film, which is what we assumed, but, y'know, memorable all the same. Rape seems to have been a bit of a theme for the weekend. Along with vomit, and people disappointing their dudes.

[livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes went back today. I hope she gets home alright, and the trains aren't too weird and Sunday-ish. I assume I will hear at some point.

Pairings [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes and I generally agreed don't get enough fic:

  • The King brothers.

  • Richard Nixon/Henry Kissinger

  • Obadiah Stane/Tony Stark

  • Hiro/Ando

  • Anyone on Suburban Shootout (I hadn't actually watched the Oestrogen Patch episode before. Dude.)

  • Crichton/Scorpius (although I was mostly leading on this one)

  • Arrested Development in general

  • Anyone good

On Wednesday night I went round to a friend's to watch films (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - I forgot that Harry gets completely wasted on painkillers), and on Thursday night the router broke. And stayed broken last night. And now I'm willing to bet no-one's around, and I'll have to go back to playing with my CV. Damn it.

[livejournal.com profile] calapine sent me Babylon 5 videos. She is win. I am quite looking forward to watching them at...some point. But maybe not anytime soon. I dance her anyway, though. John Barrowman is on Never Mind the Buzzcocks tonight, by the way, in case you didn't know.

I need to get a move on with writing/editing my CV, and y'know, sending it to places, but mostly haven't been doing that. I will though. Editing short, pithy statements about my "skills" may not be much motivation for getting through a day of filing, but moving out and going back to Nottingham DEFINITELY IS. I hope I will have the internet in the place I'll presumably be moving into. It's a slight constant worry to me that I sort of won't.

Also a TV. Life on Mars series 2 will be starting around January, I think.

I have quite a lot to do, really. Christmas shopping. Writing my Yuletide fic. Looking at jobs/flats. K is coming with me to the Green Wing convention, so at least that's sorted. Apparently I need to send off a form now telling the SLC how I'll be paying my Student Loan back. Which is slightly worrying. I thought they just sort of took it when you were earning enough. I now need to say whether I'll be employed or unemployed over the next 12 months. I don't think 'um' is going to cover it.

Mostly I'm in love with Guy of Gisbourne at the moment. As far as I can tell, it was caused by a dream I had about him in which I basically just wanted to rescue and hug him. It's quite pleasant, but often distracting. We'll pretend I totally didn't just buy the first DVD for the sake of being able to watch him on a regular basis. Other than on TV. Yes. Apparently this week the outlaws will regret crossing him after uncovering 'a terrible secret'. All that sex with the Sheriff? Who's to say what that might be?

I just watched this week's Robin Hood. Thoughts )

Anyway. I went to Nottingham! It was a bit odd, because K and J had double-booked a lot of things for the same days I was there - because we arranged it a while ago, and because they couldn't do the other things any other time - so it was all a bit frantic. K was running an art workshop for kids, then for grown-ups, on Saturday, from 10 till 4, and she had to prepare for it for most of Friday. I helped out, and it was interesting, but it made spending time together a bit stressful. Also I hurt my arm muscles carrying materials around afterwards. Ouch. And J's parents came down to bring them some furniture, so he spent all Saturday and Sunday with them. And on Sunday K and I both slept in, and I had to get the train back at four or five o'clock. But it was interesting, and we got to see the play (a bit full on visually and extreme), and talk sometimes, so it was fine. I don't know. K seemed as stressed as she used to be at uni, but I'm telling myself it's because she was busy and feeling guilty about me rather than that's how she is all the time. Their flat's nice. And right in the centre of town, pretty much. I burn with jealousy. Sort of. Nottingham's still a bit of a rough area late at night.

I went to see the career's guy, and told him I wanted to get a regular 9-to-5 job, get a flat, and start getting some experience in the Arts, maybe working at a cinema or theatre. Sadly, he told me I basically needed to get a 9-to-5 job, get a flat, and start getting some work/volunteering in the Arts. He did suggest trying Michael Wisher though, and gave me some notes about writing an effective CV, so that was quite useful. I'm not mad about getting to waitress, but it would be regular and flexible, it'd mean helping out with arty/cultural events and developing practical skills, and it would involve travelling for free. All of which are good qualities. So it seems like it might be a bit of a winner, that Michael Wisher. And it's a new option, at least.

Also I saw James Bond. He is omg pretty. But a bit disappointing - though I haven't decided if that's the "perfect" character or the slightly anti-climactic plot. The titles did make me laugh though. Oh how I laughed.

That's it, really. My whole flist seems to have gone very quiet. I hope everyone's okay. Hoping everyone's coping with nano might be a more rational thought, on reflection.

Right.

Hello. I have not been posting for awhile. Or, to be more accurate, for 5/7 days. I still haunted your comments boxes though, hah! I've been sort of re-evaluating the way I use and think of Livejournal, which I think was previously 'too much'. This SAYS NOTHING about what I think of other people using Livejournal, but I do occasionally get a bit wound up about it all. So I might be attempting to be around less in future, though I don't at all want to give it up. Or any of you.

Possible TMI, blah )

I have wanted to make posts though. The problem with LJ is that it doesn't pick up on the fleeting, half-formed thoughts in your head and create posts from them immediately. That's a definite design flaw.

I have been watching:

  • Garth Merenghi's Darkplace. I love Lucien Sanchez. He did a song. I think it takes a certain kind of mood to really enjoy the show, but I thought it was pretty good. And Sanch danced to his headphones! Love.

  • Robin Hood. I love Guy of Gisbourne. Except sometimes when he's stabbing things. Though he did look pretty fine with a broadsword. Yeah, baby. I love that Will has an axe. And the Pillow Talk bit KILLED ME DEAD. Omg. Sheriff/Robin might become my new 'I don't really like either of them' OTP. Is there a New Robin Hood comm anywhere about?

  • My Rex the Runt boxset from eBay. Yay.

  • An episode of Boston Legal. I love Alan Shore. He wins all the cases and smiles sometimes. I'm not really that taken with Legal Drama as a whole, and Denny annoyed me a bit, at least in this episode. But I would like to see more of that Alan Shore fellow. Yes.
Also, my friend in this town emailed me, inviting me to a Halloween film session on Saturday, and I arranged going down to see that play with my Nottingham housemates, so I have a few more social outings to look forward to in the weeks to come, which is nice.

And: the Old Gregg/Nathan Barley over at [livejournal.com profile] little_bit_raw. Omg.

Yay, tv

New Robin Hood, Eps 1 and 2 )

Mostly though I'm still stuck into Lemony Snicket 13. My interest is sort of going up and down, but it seems to be finally kicking into gear. So far Spoilers )
