I did it. I finally found the base post of a joke I've been laughing at for about a year now.

That was me yesterday, only instead of skipping breakfast, it was me thinking I'd just catch a train home from Lancaster.

It was appalling. When we got to the station, it said my train was delayed, but not by how much, but I figured it would only be a few minutes at most. It turned out it was delayed because of a trespasser on the line, which due to the time of year and how long it took them to resolve it, I'm going to now assume was someone trying to kill themselves, which is really sad. But it meant we were just stood about at Lancaster station for an hour, with them every now and then making announcements that the train was still delayed, they still didn't know how long it would be till it arrived, and then trespasser was still on the tracks. The best part was, the problem was happening at Morecambe, which was nowhere on my route home, but our train was coming from Morecambe, so we just couldn't get going till it was done. They cancelled 2 trains to Morecambe over the next hour, and started talking about replacement bus services. I stood out on a freezing cold platform for about 25 minutes before I realised that what with the cold and all, that probably wasn't the best plan, then went and had a chocolate brownie from Costa and sat in the passenger's lounge. My mum called, and my phone died, but happily there was a plug socket right in front of me in the waiting room, and I managed to charge it up enough for it to last the rest of my journey home. Finally, after an hour, they announced that a (delayed) train to Preston would have a connection to Leeds, so anyone who'd been planning to get on my train should probably get on that. Which was no easy feat, because it was packed to the rafters, particularly around the doorways - and not really in the aisles, so clearly people just didn't want to move. But eventually we got to Preston, and eventually we got on a train to Leeds that wasn't too packed, and I managed to give my parents some idea when I was getting home so I could get a lift from our local station. And the scenery was really beautiful in the sunset and the twilight. So it wasn't all bad. I did try to have a nap on that train and then as soon as I sat up from it ended up coughing my lungs up, while everyone on the carriage looked at me like I was Patient Zero, including a Brenda Blethyn-looking woman at my table. But anyway. After a short, cold stay at Leeds station, I managed to finally get home.

Home was a slightly different story. I'd been expecting all the sympathy from my mum cos I was ill, and when I told her about it on the phone she said she'd go out and try to get me all the cold remedies. Which I thought was odd, because usually she just gives me whatever's in the cupboard. But when I told her I was going to take the next few days off work, she looked at me in horror, because she'd thought I would just take all the cold remedies till I was all dosed up, and then go into work. She's been fretting about sickness at work and self-certification notes all day, which doesn't really help my anxiety. But I think she has a slightly overblown sense of what rational self-sacrifice is, so I am just not taking her advice. I feel way better now than I did on Saturday, but I think I'm going to take tomorrow off as well just to recover, and then try to go back in on Thursday. My boss has been super lovely about it.

I put the sides back on my new computer tower yesterday. In a show of either confidence, or not wanting to be bothered, my dad said I could do it, and I did. It makes it look very finished and beautiful. I'm currently trying to make a Windows 10 boot disk, even though I can't authenticate it, or do pretty much anything, without internet. But I'm going to try to maybe find a place for the tower, and plug in my keyboard and mouse. No word yet on the ethernet extender my dad was talking about, which is how I'm going to get internet, but it does feel like things are moving on at a decent pace.

Worried about my family this week, but it's not all been bad. I spent Sunday evening Skyping with a couple of people from America who run a soap podcast, for a special Coronation Street edition. It should be up on Friday, as I understand, at britishsoapodcast, you can go listen if you want to hear me wax lyrical about David Platt and the live episode and what the true glory of the show is. Between my calls to America and my PS Vita from Japan, I'm feeling very international this week.

I've also been thinking about how much impact Tumblr has had on how I talk and think lately. Just seeing so many memes, applied to so many sources, pop up almost completely randomly, with no apparent link back to the source, has really helped them sink in. "Hoe don't do it" has become a permanent part of my vocabulary now, with "they crave that mineral" and "bitch you guessed it" not far behind.

I would also like to present you with this video I found of a baby crow that has befriended a human, to the consternation of its parents. The dude says in the comments that he saw the bird in his back yard, with a cat stalking it about to pounce, so he helped it out and then it wouldn't go away.

I actually didn't know where the 'he craves that mineral' meme came from, and now I have looked it up and it's the funniest part of the whole thing.

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] rei_c. It's International Book Week. The rules: Grab the closest book to you, turn to page 52, post the 5th sentence as your status. Don't mention the title. Copy the rules as part of your status.

You know, I love coincidences.

On Thursday, I got started on a new 666theheartless666 Let's Play of Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

And then this morning, I discovered the women laughing alone with salad pictures/meme.

And now tonight, while looking at my Tumblr dashboard thing (I have a Tumblr, basically to collect Tumblr feeds and so I can talk to people, it probably won't have a lot of photos on it), having never heard of either before as far as I recall, and from a Tumblr that is completely unconnected, it all kind of came together (warning: lots of probably quite irritating flashing images)

(And you probably won't understand it anyway without looking at both the previous links. Although the url of the post should probably be some clue).

STILL. IT WAS AMAZING.

Meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] whatho. Once you have been tagged, you have to write an entry with 10 random things, facts, goals, or habits about yourself. At the end, choose 10 people to be tagged. You can't tag a person who has tagged you. Except I also won't be tagging anyone.

10 Random Things About Me )

I have an InsaneJournal now, in case of impending Livejournal disasters. I'm under the same name, if anyone wants to friend me, and I’ll be cross-posting, probably more often when I get the html figured out. I came to realise how vaguely pointless it was to have a back-up GreatestJournal and never update it. Or actually sign in to it. Oh well. I'd like to second [livejournal.com profile] whatho's question, though, what is all this about Inksome? Is it better than other journal sites?

As an aside, I was listening to Adam and Joe from Saturday on Listen Again at the site. Is it just me or has Joe been getting progressively more in love with Adam since the summer? Possibly earlier, as I only started listening to it then. I think it KILLED HIM A BIT that Adam was attracted to a man and it wasn't him. Dude.

Hello. Comment with a prompt and I'll write a drabble for you (though possibly eventually). First ten only, any fandom you know I watch/like, but I reserve the right to veto any pairing that's just not doable. Like Caroline/Mac. Other than that, go wild. Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] whatho.

Because I clearly need to do some writing.

I volunteered for that meme over at [livejournal.com profile] calapine's journal. You know, the one where you:

Comment and I will give you 3 interests on your list, and 3 icons, for you to explain. Then you must post the answers in your own journal and allow others to comment.

Thusly:

Assassins who sing lovesongs: I can't remember if this was something I actually saw or just something that occured to me, but I was thinking a while back that there's a certain focus about love songs that would make them quite ideal and creepy for an assassin hunting someone down to sing. Also that I would love an assassin that did that. Probably this is a great big cliche and everyone everywhere has assassins singing lovesongs, in those books I don't read. If not, first dibs on the fic.

Wolves did it: This is a reference to one of my favourite quotes from the League of Gentlemen. Spoilers for the sketch )

dtdd slash: This is short for Drop the Dead Donkey slash. That will probably clear it up for most people, but in case it doesn't Drop the Dead Donkey is a fantastic topical news based British comedy from the 90s, and it has some slash, but not enough. OH GOD. DAMIEN. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.

Icons:

This is from Never Mind the Buzzcocks, which not many people on my flist seem to watch, but is very good. In the latest series Bill Bailey tried to say something funny and topical, like on Have I Got News For You, but it doesn't really work as NMTB is filmed six weeks before airing. So Simon Amstell interrupted him and said "Bill, it's six weeks ago". Bill Bailey then got slightly confused and upset, and called him a Timelord. It was great. And made me imagine if Simon Amstell was the new Doctor, which seems like it would be the winningest thing ever.

I got this one at [livejournal.com profile] iconomicon, which is a great place to find icons. What can I say? It rhymes, it's got Shakespeare on it. It mentions hos. It has Shakespeare on it and it mentions hos. If you like, you can imagine Shakespeare saying it to you, over your shoulder. There's a similar one with Nieztche in a scarf. And, if you want to get deep, it sort of suggests you should put your writing/what you want to read before the people who don't like it, or think it's 'eww'. All in all, I quite like it.

This is from Talladega Nights, another film most people don't seem to have seen for some reason, and it's pretty much a huge spoiler for the ending, but it is a great ending. More sports movies should end like that. Also: omg kissing. And Jean Girard! Two things that make any icon great.

Feel free to comment away.

It turns out the desk where my laptop is is not really the best place for extended typing and reading. Ouch. Might have to try 'roaming' a bit, without destroying anything with the cables. Tomorrow night I'm going to see Spiderman 3, and looking forward to it. Finally I will see if Eddie Brock is worth getting worked up about. Hurrah.
