It's time for the video again:

Today for a long time it was cloudy and we all thought it might rain or thunderstorm, and blessedly cool down. But then the clouds just passed over, and it got sunny again. Like the sky was taunting us. Like the sky hates us.

I would like to share this advert I saw recently with you, where a famous current feminist explains to us that sometimes the 'true' version of yourself is the one that wears make-up.

The description under the video is particularly amazing.

After all the working and interviews in the last couple of weeks, and my general allergic reaction to shoes, I ended up with a bunch of blisters. One old one now has a yellow patch in the middle and is a little red around the outside, and I was thinking 'did I get a blister on my blister?'. But I had my mum look at it, because she's a nurse, and she thinks actually it's a little infected instead. She suggested I pop it, but I don't really want to do that if I don't have to - it doesn't hurt too badly, and like she pointed out, spots are technically infected and they just go away on their own. So now her advice is 'keep an eye on it, and if more of the outside gets red and then the red starts creeping up your leg, you've got a problem'. So. Now I'm doing that.

Anyway. What I have been doing lately is playing Fallout 4 again, in Survival mode. Nuka-World was a bit disappointing but fun, and but I've been wanting to do a survival playthrough for a while, so I started a new one. I'm insane. Basically Survival mode is exactly the same as the usual game, but you have hunger (that can kill you), thirst (that can kill you), sleep deprivation, you can get diseases, you can't fast-travel, you do more damage in fights but so do your enemies, and you can't save. Everything but the last one is manageable, but the last one. The only time it saves is if you sleep in a bed for at least an hour, so if you can't find one, or you can't sleep in one because there are two many enemies about - you will probably get into a fight shortly afterwards and get killed in a few hits, and have to go back to that morning in the game. Before you did a bunch of stuff, sated your thirst and hunger, and got a bunch of new gear. It's no fun having to play the same missions over and over again. But it is fun to roleplay so hard. I drank from a river and got parasites. Then I had to spend money at a doctor's rather than on a new gun. Also it's pretty addictive. I get a hankering to play it, and try to survive as long as possible, most of the time.

Another thing I have been doing is watching Rick and Morty. Rick and Morty is amazing, and it is a cartoon and I'm sorry, but it's amazing. It's pretty brutal and graphic though, so probably not for everyone. Here is the pilot/short it was based on:

A lot of people probably don't want to read any more about the Alton Sterling shooting, or the Philando Castile shooting, because it's so sad. But this video, from a female police officer, nearly made me cry, so. Here it is.

I ship Ross Barton on Emmerdale with his dad, because I just can't stay away from incest in soaps apparently, but honestly watch this scene where they are first together on screen and tell me you've ever seen an actor look more like they want to make out with another actor:

Worried about my family this week, but it's not all been bad. I spent Sunday evening Skyping with a couple of people from America who run a soap podcast, for a special Coronation Street edition. It should be up on Friday, as I understand, at britishsoapodcast, you can go listen if you want to hear me wax lyrical about David Platt and the live episode and what the true glory of the show is. Between my calls to America and my PS Vita from Japan, I'm feeling very international this week.

I've also been thinking about how much impact Tumblr has had on how I talk and think lately. Just seeing so many memes, applied to so many sources, pop up almost completely randomly, with no apparent link back to the source, has really helped them sink in. "Hoe don't do it" has become a permanent part of my vocabulary now, with "they crave that mineral" and "bitch you guessed it" not far behind.

I would also like to present you with this video I found of a baby crow that has befriended a human, to the consternation of its parents. The dude says in the comments that he saw the bird in his back yard, with a cat stalking it about to pounce, so he helped it out and then it wouldn't go away.

I literally have no idea what I am supposed to do to prepare for this interview tomorrow. I assume I'm only having it at all because I want to volunteer at a medical facility, so they can't just let anyone come and have access to patient information, they have to check people out a little first. In which case my main task is to not commit any crimes before tomorrow morning, and to just seem like a normal friendly person. But maybe it IS also going to kind of be an interview, and I might really screw myself by not being prepared. But maybe if I'm too prepared and intense they'll find it a little weird and not want to let me come. It all sounded like a bit of a formality, but I'd rather be prepared-ish anyway. Also, when the woman called up to arrange the interview time, she said something about interviews being what they usually do 'when they have a couple of application forms come in', so I don't know if I'm in competition with other people for this thing.

I'm basically casting an eye over their website to see what they do and what services they offer, then review the notes I took for the Social Care course I took in 2010 that I mentioned on the application form in case they bring it up and 'umm....' isn't a good enough answer, and then I'm going to vaguely try to remember what else I put on the application form and what I could say about it if they ask. And then I'm going to watch Youtube videos. And hope I wake up in time to actually go to the interview tomorrow.

Speaking of Youtube videos, I don't even watch The Walking Dead, but this still somehow hilarious to me:

I HAVE BEEN SINGING LA-BIBBIDA-BIBBA-DUM FOR SOME TIME NOW.

I would like to make it clear though that I prefer Ross Barton when he's harassing his family rather than when he's harassing women he fancies. Ew.

On that note, I went on Youtube last night looking for the scene where Ross' dad comes to get him from Moira's, having not seen him since he ran away three years previously. I'm glad I did, because omg.

You have to put up with Charlie from Coronation Street, but mainly it's about a man all but making out with his son in an attempt to get him to come home. I haven't seen this much gay in a soap since that DVD of early Neighbours we watched. Don't make out with your kids, folks.

I had tuna fishcakes for tea tonight, but when I got them they were a bit cool. Mum made them so I assumed they'd just been left out for a little while when she was doing other things. It only occurred to me after a while that they'd been frozen, and might just not have been cooked through properly. So now I'm concerned about the food poisoning. Still eating though.

Things that have happened lately that I took note of:

  • Microsoft have apparently dropped or debunked a bunch of the features in the Xbox One that everyone was furious about, which is probably for the best. The camera and microphone that watches you all the time can apparently be switched off in the menu - if you remember to do that; you can trade in and play used games, but only with 'selected retailers'; and the fact that it was going to need to 'check in' with the Microsoft online servers once every 24 hours or it wouldn't let you play offline, which they seemed adamant about, has now apparently been changed. That last fact is pretty good, since it apparently pissed off every army in the world. I'm still not planning on getting an Xbox One right now, mostly because I have a Playstation and I'd like to stick with them. Although Microsoft's tendency to use their money to buy exclusives for insanely popular games might one day change my mind - people have been talking about Fallout 4 being an Xbox One exclusive lately, although they've also pointed out that even if it was you'd probably still be able to get in on PC. But regardless, it's nice to know that Microsoft are actually listening to people, and capable of not being so crazy.

In other news, tonight David Platt picked up Becky's sledgehammer. Reason #538 why they should have been friends.

And Despicable Me 2 is out next week. And the week after there's Now You See Me, the film about magician thieves with Dave Franco in it, and The Internship. I feel ambivalent about The Internship, ever since another internet article pointed out there are no films out at the moment in most of America about a woman or a group of women, and I realised it was also true of England, or at least my bit of it from what I could see. And The Internship does like a film about two guys, hanging around with a bunch of other people who are mostly guys, trying to prove they are still worthwhile/man enough to have around. But on the other hand, Vince Vaughn is in it, and seems to be playing a part that doesn't mostly involve being a dick, unlike a lot of his roles nowadays. So I will probably give it a watch after all, if I have time.

I have a Playstation 3. I do not have Playstation Network.

Playstation Network is Playstation's online service type thing, for anyone who doesn't know. I don't have it, and generally I'm pretty fine with that. I'm not interested in playing Multiplayer games, I'm not interested in playing Multiplayer mode on any of my current games. I kind of go and play video games to be on my own with an activity, and so I can kick, shoot and run into things with abandon when I'm in a bad mood or just don't care. The last thing I want when I'm playing games is to suddenly be flung into a new one with a bunch of strangers, and have to co-operate with them. Largely. I'm sure the multiplayer experience is lovely for lots of people, and maybe I'd really enjoy it if I actually tried it. But at the moment it holds no appeal for me.

The other main thing you can get through online services is DLC, downloadable content, which is like extra bits tacked onto popular games, or extra items, or sometimes extra - vital - bits of the story that the developers felt like making you pay a bit more for. Again, I'm not really that bothered. I come to most games late enough that by the time I want to buy them, a Game Of The Year edition is out if they've been REALLY popular, which collects the game and all its DLCs onto one physical disc. Awesome.

However, it's starting to look like I might have to get Playstation Network. Because they've started/have continued making things that you actually cannot get anywhere else.

There's a webcomic artist I like and follow on Tumblr, and she was doing some work I think on a game called Skullgirls, or she talked about it a lot anyway. Skullgirls looked really interesting, so I figured great, I'll buy that when it comes out. No. It's a Playstation and XBox exclusive, and you can only get it online! Due to intense popularity, we will be selling it for PCs now! Eventually! 'Eventually', however, means nothing, like it probably sounds. They keep putting the date for eventually back. I literally cannot tell when it will be. Then there's Infamous. I have many issues with the Infamous franchise, but I love the games, and I was really happy that I'd played all of them so at least I couldn't be spoiled for any. But no! They made a new little adventure with vampires! You can only get it online though! No Game Of The Year editions for you! And they might make more adventures in the future! Who knows!!

And then there is Okami. Okami was a game I noticed years ago, before the Playstation 3 was out, before I had a games console. It's about a Japanese goddess fighting demons, who takes the form of a white wolf. I really wanted to play it, but I didn't have a console, le sigh. I still haven't actually used the second hand Playstation 2 I bought a while back, but I did toy with the idea of getting a copy of Okami, so I could play it on that when I did get it out. But then it was okay! I heard they were bringing out a HD version of Okami that you could play on the Playstation 3. So I figured "great, I'll get that!". I trawled the internet looking for release dates, looking for UK release dates. I couldn't find anything. Eventually I got bored of not finding anything and temporarily forgot about it. It was supposed to be in the autumn or winter of this year, and I figured I'd hear about it when it did come out. Then a few weeks ago I saw somebody talking about Okami, and I decided to look and see if it had come out yet, or if the release had been delayed, or if they had some news about when the release date was, or what. It turned out it HAD been released, at the end of October. On the Playstation Network.

So yes. The amount of things I want to get from Playstation Network are sort of piling up, so it looks like I'm going to probably end up getting on it. Even though I've heard many tales of Playstation Network's service being shit and shutting down for weeks at a time. Even though people on Cracked.com keep telling me horror stories about the future of gaming and online security measures (no 5 on that list). To be honest, if those security measures end up happening I'm probably going to need an internet connection anyway, so I may as well get used to it now.

The thing is, apart from anything I thought that getting an internet connection for my Playstation would just be annoying and inconvenient. Having to get wires, having to find a spare phone socket thing, probably have to get dad help me sort it out. It literally only just occured to me this week that we have wifi. And I looked up the Playstation 3 capabilities, and you can totally use wifi on it. So it looks likes it going to be easier than I thought. Assuming the connection works, that is. And assuming it's not too big a drain on our Broadband.

In other news, I totally intended to watch the Text Santa thing last night. But then I didn't. Happily someone had uploaded the only thing I really wanted to watch it for: Snow Whitechapel. A parody and combination of PRETTY MUCH ALL THE CURRENT ITV DETECTIVE DRAMAS I LOVE THE BEST. It is beautiful.
