Oh my God, it was close today. Weather-wise.

I did finally manage to get to see X-Men: Apocalypse though. My main question: who didn't like this movie? The reviews were terrible, people were saying it was worse than Last Stand. And - it was not. I forgot that Bryan Singer is a possible-paedophile, and I had been thinking of boycotting his movies - forgot about that till his name came up massively on screen. But the film itself was well done. Bits of it were awesome.

Also - a thing I forgot to mention the other day: after my assessment-that-didn't-happen, I went into my local games shop to pick up a game I'd asked them to order for me. I got chatting to the guy behind the desk about E3, and started talking about how I'd found the Microsoft conference quite boring, and that the trailer for Scalebound, the only game I'd been interested in before E3, had actually put me off it more than anything. I was aware someone had come and stood at the desk just beside me, waiting for their turn, but then they started talking about the trailer, and I turned around and realised it was an Xbox rep. He talked in the most robotic way I've ever heard in real life, he had an Irish accent so there was every reason his voice should have had personality, but it didn't. I mentioned how the game had been delayed from this year to next, and he said like, 'yes, we have such a strong lineup of games this year we didn't think it was necessary to release it this year', 'we didn't want to crowd Christmas again, and as we have such a strong line-up of games we thought it best to push it to next summer, so people can enjoy it then, and it won't get lost at Christmas'. He was wearing all-black, including a black fleece with 'Xbox' emblazoned on the arms, and had mirrored sunglasses on so you couldn't see his eyes, and it was just like talking to a robot. Terrifying.

The thing with the MP woman is still fucked up, and now the right-wing newspapers are describing her killer as 'a loner with a history of mental illness'. Cheers. Thanks for that, newspapers.

I had tuna fishcakes for tea tonight, but when I got them they were a bit cool. Mum made them so I assumed they'd just been left out for a little while when she was doing other things. It only occurred to me after a while that they'd been frozen, and might just not have been cooked through properly. So now I'm concerned about the food poisoning. Still eating though.

Things that have happened lately that I took note of:

  • Microsoft have apparently dropped or debunked a bunch of the features in the Xbox One that everyone was furious about, which is probably for the best. The camera and microphone that watches you all the time can apparently be switched off in the menu - if you remember to do that; you can trade in and play used games, but only with 'selected retailers'; and the fact that it was going to need to 'check in' with the Microsoft online servers once every 24 hours or it wouldn't let you play offline, which they seemed adamant about, has now apparently been changed. That last fact is pretty good, since it apparently pissed off every army in the world. I'm still not planning on getting an Xbox One right now, mostly because I have a Playstation and I'd like to stick with them. Although Microsoft's tendency to use their money to buy exclusives for insanely popular games might one day change my mind - people have been talking about Fallout 4 being an Xbox One exclusive lately, although they've also pointed out that even if it was you'd probably still be able to get in on PC. But regardless, it's nice to know that Microsoft are actually listening to people, and capable of not being so crazy.

  • I love this girl:

  • Interesting history and the films that are being made based on it.

In other news, tonight David Platt picked up Becky's sledgehammer. Reason #538 why they should have been friends.

And Despicable Me 2 is out next week. And the week after there's Now You See Me, the film about magician thieves with Dave Franco in it, and The Internship. I feel ambivalent about The Internship, ever since another internet article pointed out there are no films out at the moment in most of America about a woman or a group of women, and I realised it was also true of England, or at least my bit of it from what I could see. And The Internship does like a film about two guys, hanging around with a bunch of other people who are mostly guys, trying to prove they are still worthwhile/man enough to have around. But on the other hand, Vince Vaughn is in it, and seems to be playing a part that doesn't mostly involve being a dick, unlike a lot of his roles nowadays. So I will probably give it a watch after all, if I have time.

For a taste of that Xbox One drama I was talking about earlier:

  • Read this short article about whether/how you'll be able to share games on Xbox One.

  • And then observe this response video from Playstation.

And those are just the professionals.

I'm feeling an urge to not play video games again for a little while. Probably not long, but still. Partly this is down to the fact my mum pointed out the recurring pain I have in my thumb might in fact be the beginnings of repetitive strain injury. Which was slightly buoyed up by the fact that when I was playing a game later that night (naturally), I did notice that the way I used the buttons made it worse. I blame Dragon Age 2 and the fact that, mostly, mashing the X button seemed to be the way to combat success. But still. And I think the other reason might be that I have been playing them SO HARD AND SO LONG lately. I've realised that I've now finished all of the big Bioware RPGs everyone's always talking about, once at least. Aside from the Star Wars one, but y'know, I never will. But aside from that, it was a project I started...quite a few months ago. Before Redemption. And I'm now finally up to date. And I did think the new Dragon Age game would be out later this year, but according to the preview they had the other day, apparently it will be Fall 2014. So I have a while before I have to get back into one again. Oh, and there's always the new Mass Effect game they'll apparently have coming out. Ahahahaha.

But yeah, I might take a break for a while. Bear in mind that when I say "a while", I probably mean "a week". And maybe even less than that. I HAVE SO MANY GAMES I DIDN'T PLAY OR FINISH WHILE I WAS PLAYING BIOWARE GAMES. And even more are either out or coming out in the next few months. But yeah. At the moment I've sort of had my fill for a while.

I don't regret getting into video games though, if only because now I get to hear and mostly understand all of the Xbox One drama.

In other news, I might have spent a little too much lately. Including today, on a beautiful silk scarf. I might have to curb that for a little while.

In more other news, I saw about twenty minutes of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance yesterday, and I've decided I love Lee Marvin. So there's that.

And in further other news, the other day I came downstairs into the kitchen, looked over at the calendar, and saw my mother had written "THE DEED", all in capital letters, on the entry for the day before her birthday. She was working that day, so I got to be mildly perturbed all afternoon until she came home and I could ask her what 'the deed' was. It turns out it was actually a school trip to 'The Deep', in Hull, that she's going on with one of my nephews. And we laughed. Still. If you wanted to badly freak out any member of your family, or peer group, write THE DEED in huge letters on one of the days of your calendar, and invite them round, somewhere they'll be able to see it. I can almost guarantee it will give them some pause.
