  1. I just went to see No Country For Old Men. Personally, I think I expect gay love too often in the plot of TV and films. Although in films about guys hunting each other down, I think it's really fair game. Anyway. Vague spoilers, not really )

  2. I'm probably betraying a lot of my flist with this. Torchwood, Episode 1 Series 2 )

  3. A thing I was going to say before, but never had time to, was that I had another New Year's Resolution, except that I didn't, because it was impossible. If I did have another one, it was going to be to catch up with the Hellblazer series this year. Except that according to the list in the back of the books I had there were 26 books in the series, and being graphic novels cost a bit, and I had three. Which means that even if I got one EVERY MONTH I would still only be halfway through it by next January. EXCEPT that - mostly I wanted to catch-up with the series so I could possibly read the new books that came out. But I learned today that that doesn't actually matter, because they been published at all in chronological order. The order in the backs of my books? Is wrong. Which explains why they never had '1,2,3' written on them and were sometimes in the wrong order in shops. If you care to cast your gaze here, you will see the books in order of issues. If you have any interest at all and cross-reference these with the release dates on Amazon, you will see that IT DOESN'T REALLY MATCH UP. I'd bought a new one in the series, when I thought the next one I needed was out of print, and really wanted to read it. THIS BOOK COMES BEFORE SOME OF THE BOOKS I'VE ALREADY HAD. WHAT? Oh, it's very annoying. WHAT? HOW CAN COMICS BETRAY ME LIKE THIS?

  4. But one of the comic book shops in my town is closing down, and I'm going to go tomorrow (their last day open) and see if I can get any bargains. At the moment they're having the worst sale I've ever seen. There are all these posters up about 'Closing Down Sale! - Spend £25 and get 10% off'. It's a bit funny because they're a chain store, so they can probably just ship their extra stock elswhere when they close. Still. I'm going down tomorrow in hope.

  5. And speaking of New Year's Resolutions that can't be fulfilled, you remember one of those plays I wanted to see this year? It turns out that something else I wanted to see, a modern updating of Midsummer Night's Dream, is on over the same few days. So I can either a) Miss out on the performance of a play I kicked myself for missing this first time around, b) miss out on a possible new updating of Titania and Oberon, or c) have a very busy weekend. Hmm.

Nice Things:

  • Flapjack.

  • Never Mind the Buzzcocks

  • It turns out that you only pay council tax for ten months of the year. Which means that if I take the £71 out of my account each month and save it, or set it aside, then that's four nights at Orbital paid for. Which is great.

Eeee, Amazon sent me books! In lovely cardboard packaging! They are so shiny and pretty and square ::pets them:: And then there is bubblewrap, which is just the icing on the cake. I wish I had ordered The Monk instead of Caleb Williams, because apparently it is all sex/death/incest in a monastery, but ah well. I have Dracula. I have the BTVS script book. Some of the episodes have Spike. I might get to study Spike. Oooh, maybe I will have to compare Spike to Dracula, and then I can be all 'actually, Dracula was in an episode of BTVS, episode...', and I can push my glasses (I'll get them from somewhere) back up onto my nose, and be all academic and knowy about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hurray :D

I'm reading plays at the moment. I quite like John Ford. Penthea/Orgilus forever, omg! I'm not even slashing. Much. I have decided there are not enough plays about vampires and werewolves. Possibly living in low-rent housing and smoking and bitching about the lack of good hunting these days. No.

Also, I have watched the River Tam Sessions. They gave me fairly violent flashbacks to Samara in The Ring (oooh, Samara/River...), but I do love River. I had forgotten how much. She may become my laptop wallpaper very soon. Oh River.

A question: I have watched some episodes of Firefly. Not all of them - not anywhere NEAR all of them - but some of them. Whatever I could catch on Sci-fi in the middle of the day before someone wanted to watch something else. I have also read some discussions and fic. I know who all the people are, I know their basic relationships with each other, I know some of the things that have happened to them, I know the gist of the stuff with River. Should I endeavour to buy/rent/somehow watch the entire series before Serenity comes out, or should this basic knowlede be enough to get me through?

ETA (A note: I will probably not actually watch the series, because I doubt I'll find it for rental, and I'm saving for the start of uni at the mo, and because I'm going to be very busy in September, so probably won't have time for a series before the 30th, but there's always a chance, and I'd rather feel frustrated now than guilty and stupid walking out of the theatre, when it's much too late.) since finding out the Serenity release date is in November, not September ;)

Okay, meme. Much shorter hopefully than previous comments. I would like to spend less than all night on this. Also, I am using the 'Jekesta method', which essentially means these aren't at all my 'top five', but the five I can think of/like the best today, particularly. Yes.

Fic genres )

Top 5 characters )

Top 5 gay love moments that never happened )

That was fun. Though it makes me sort of hate regular TV. Hmph. Have been watching more of Angel - every day, in every way, I know where more and more of the title clips come from. I do not like Buffy. I do not like the episode with Buffy in it. I cried nevertheless. But now I want to write fic wherein they both get their wish, and Angel is human and Buffy is not a Slayer, and they are both just so. Bored. With each other. Hmm. There is still not enough Lindsey, but as of next episode there will be Wesley, and I think I might love him enough to put me on for a while, from what I've heard. And then he can have a part in the Mpreg, doing research and being flaily and telling Lindsey how to breathe during the labour, which is all for the good.
