- I just went to see No Country For Old Men. Personally, I think I expect gay love too often in the plot of TV and films. Although in films about guys hunting each other down, I think it's really fair game. Anyway. I thought it was very good, and am slightly in love with at least two of the main characters. You can probably guess who one of them is. Also Woody Harrelson had a cowboy hat. That was great. I found the ending a bit abrupt, but I've sort of come to expect that from Coen films. Also this is a bit of a strange one as it was an adaptation from a novel rather than theirs. But still. I couldn't always understand what Anton Chiguar(?) was saying, which was unfortunate as you can't always guess what he means. And it was sort of a western, more than any of the other Coen films I've seen, which isn't a genre I'm really familiar with. But it was still a great film, and beautifully shot, especially at the beginning. So rah. I went to see it at the Broadway rather than Cineworld. I think this was a great plan.
- I'm probably betraying a lot of my flist with this. I actually really enjoyed it. Although I could just have been distracted by Spike, as so often happens. I loved him. I love that he's keeping up the tradition of having an immortal boyfriend who's slightly taller than him. And having a slightly iconic coat. Possibly I was distracted by the prettiness of the red jacket. It's maybe a good thing I didn't go to Butlins much when I was growing up. I love that he went to murder rehab, but never quite kicked the habit. I love that he headbutted someone. Also I love that his morals apparently extended to NOT SHOOTING THE EYE-CANDY. He didn't paralysingly lip-gloss Ianto. That was quite sad. Maybe they're saving it for closer to the finale. I like Ianto. I love that they all stood around COMPLAINING about Jack going missing, while he was all "Yes, or we could just get a taxi".
Mostly I can't believe Jack didn't let John join his team. Jack's a bit rub, I think. All John did was try to kill Jack and shoot Owen. THAT'S ENTIRELY FORGIVEABLE. But apparently they're bringing him back, so. I don't know. This was meant to be about the episode, but has turned out to mostly be about James Marsden. Generally, I enjoyed it, and thought it was better than some of the episodes I saw from last season, and found this things going on quite interesting, possibly because they were character-based and a bit world-building. But we shall see what the next episode's like, which I imagine will be more the usual formula. But if they keep it up I might quite like it.
Also, I was absolutely certain I saw Bryan Dick in the promo for the rest of the season, but imdb kept LYING to me. Google on the other hand, proved itself true. Hurrah! - A thing I was going to say before, but never had time to, was that I had another New Year's Resolution, except that I didn't, because it was impossible. If I did have another one, it was going to be to catch up with the Hellblazer series this year. Except that according to the list in the back of the books I had there were 26 books in the series, and being graphic novels cost a bit, and I had three. Which means that even if I got one EVERY MONTH I would still only be halfway through it by next January. EXCEPT that - mostly I wanted to catch-up with the series so I could possibly read the new books that came out. But I learned today that that doesn't actually matter, because they been published at all in chronological order. The order in the backs of my books? Is wrong. Which explains why they never had '1,2,3' written on them and were sometimes in the wrong order in shops. If you care to cast your gaze here, you will see the books in order of issues. If you have any interest at all and cross-reference these with the release dates on Amazon, you will see that IT DOESN'T REALLY MATCH UP. I'd bought a new one in the series, when I thought the next one I needed was out of print, and really wanted to read it. THIS BOOK COMES BEFORE SOME OF THE BOOKS I'VE ALREADY HAD. WHAT? Oh, it's very annoying. WHAT? HOW CAN COMICS BETRAY ME LIKE THIS?
- But one of the comic book shops in my town is closing down, and I'm going to go tomorrow (their last day open) and see if I can get any bargains. At the moment they're having the worst sale I've ever seen. There are all these posters up about 'Closing Down Sale! - Spend £25 and get 10% off'. It's a bit funny because they're a chain store, so they can probably just ship their extra stock elswhere when they close. Still. I'm going down tomorrow in hope.
- And speaking of New Year's Resolutions that can't be fulfilled, you remember one of those plays I wanted to see this year? It turns out that something else I wanted to see, a modern updating of Midsummer Night's Dream, is on over the same few days. So I can either a) Miss out on the performance of a play I kicked myself for missing this first time around, b) miss out on a possible new updating of Titania and Oberon, or c) have a very busy weekend. Hmm.
Nice Things:
- Flapjack.
- Never Mind the Buzzcocks
- It turns out that you only pay council tax for ten months of the year. Which means that if I take the £71 out of my account each month and save it, or set it aside, then that's four nights at Orbital paid for. Which is great.

Date: 2008-01-20 12:32 am (UTC)Exactly! When you consider what Jack actually did to his team last series, lol! Setting a pterodactyl to peck Ianto's true love to death with barbecue sauce, firing Tosh's girlfriend into the centre of the sun?!?! Nobody could complain about Owen getting shot, and as Jack can never die, what's the harm in trying to kill him? :-)
Go to the play you wanted to see, and watch the BBC modern adaptation of Midsummer Night's Dream on DVD, if you didn't happen to see it on the telly a couple of year's ago. It's good :-)

Date: 2008-01-20 06:01 pm (UTC)Is that the one with Johnny Vegas? I don't know, I quite like the look of this one, and it's with a group I've liked before (I think). Possibly might have to do some more debating. I'm leaning towards the play I did want to see, though.
