My internet has been really rubbish over the past few days. On Monday when I turned it on it just wouldn't work at all, and then since then it's just been constantly getting and losing a connection, every few minutes. Except, mysteriously, sometimes when I had a Youtube video in one of my tabs. Then it sometimes worked for an hour or more. Anyway, it's been VERY frustrating. I thought it might be something to do with my D drive, which has mysteriously filled up since I last checked it - I did a bit of disk cleanup and it seemed to work better, but then today it was rubbish again. But my dad's internet was fine, and my mum was using her tablet okay with our wifi. I have brought my laptop downstairs, and it seems to be okay at the moment. I am hoping it will 'catch' finally and just stay like this.

Cut for a story about a guy being weird )

On the plus side, I am back upstairs with my internet again, and it seems to be working now. And I went and bought a new MP3 Player yesterday, and when I looked at it yesterday it was £49.99, and today it was suddenly 25% off. Which was nice. I'm still upset about the guy though.

I spent most of the rest of yesterday putting some music on my new mp3 player. And frankly, it's good that I set aside a day for it, because it took me about that long to even put a bunch of music I wanted on my computer, never mind on the player. I forgot how long it takes to rip things, sometimes. Well, technically it took me up until Coronation Street was on anyway, and I went down for the soaps/Case Histories/Psychoville portion of the night.

I had a hard time believing all the CDs I wanted to rip would even fit on my computer, never mind on my MP3 player. But they totally did. Except that my computer seems to have a weird aversion to playing Tori Amos CDs, or even recognising them as discs. I don't know what it is. A while ago I tried to rip my Tales of A Librarian CD, and it wouldn't play it, so I just figured there was something wrong with the disc. But yesterday I decided to try it again, and it still wouldn't have it, and then I decided to rip some of the songs I wanted from a few other Tori Amos albums I've got but haven't listened to all the way through yet, and it wouldn't have them either. But I tried ripping my old Scarlet's Walk CD that I've had for a few years, and that went fine. I don't know. It has a very specific aversion to some Tori Amos, it seems.

Anyway, my MP3 player conundrums continued when I spent quite a while putting a load of music from my Windows Media Player to sync to the player, it was easily about half an hour, maybe up to an hour. Then I unplugged the player and went to look what music was on it, and could only find the MP3 files I'd copied over from my downloads files. And THEN I realised that putting the songs from my Windows Media Player TO sync only meant putting them in a list, and I had to press another button to actually sync them and copy them over. So I had to do that all again. I was hoping to be finished with it before midnight, but it took me a bit over that, in the end.

And THEN I finally had my music on my MP3 player, and all I had to do was figure out how to use it. Which was not the easiest thing in the world. The tiny, one-page instruction guide turned out to be some help, with this, but in the end, only the fact that it said so on the back of the MP3 player box kept me believing that there WAS indeed a shuffle function, and a volume control. Eventually I found them. And now I have a working MP3 player! And since turning the shake function off, I have an MP3 player that doesn't skip songs when I move it the wrong way! All I need now is a case thing for it so it doesn't get scratched, and I am golden.

The main problem I have with it at the moment is that the battery apparently only last for up to 5.5 hours, I'm pretty sure my previous MP3 players lasted longer than that. But I can probably deal with it. And it's probably better for me to not use it all the time anyway.

Also I watched a bunch of programmes last night. The round up:

  • On Hollyoaks Mitzeee wore an amazing white toga-style dress, and literally everyone tore her to shreds when they saw her, instead of falling to their knees due to her obvious superiority.

  • On Coronation Street, Tiny spoiler for last night ).

  • I watched Case Histories, it was very good, I quite like Jackson Brody.

  • And we had the Psychoville finale. Spoilers )

Further thoughts on Coronation Street )

Well. I've pretty much enjoyed this week of Coronation Street, even with it's occasional lows, anyway.

Also, some Emmerdale news! Possible future Emmerdale casting/return spoiler )

Also, I'd like to tell you that in the end I just gave up and decided to open the MP3 player and start using it. I've been gearing up to buy it for a while, and the one from the website wouldn't come for at least 3-5 days, and I'm going on holiday in two weeks, so I don't really want to be messing about or possibly missing the return date. And it's only £10, and I didn't go to the cinema this week, so it probably evens out. I'll probably be annoyed if I have to pay for another customs charge on some Threadless t-shirts though. Growl.

The only problem now is that I've plugged it in to charge, and the only user's manual I got is a tiny booklet that explains what the buttons are for, so I'm not really sure how I'll be able to tell when it's charged. Hmm.

I want to go check if So You Think You Can Dance is on now. I don't think I ever said how sad I was about Charlotte going last week. It's really kind of a shame that the first week she wasn't with Matt, she got pretty bad comments for pretty much all her dances, and then got sent home. But I could kind of see some shortfalls in her dances compared to some of the other girl's dances. I have decided that Matt is my favourite now. Especially after that boys' group dance. With Kirsty coming in probably second. And Lee B probably in third. Ironically, I decided I quite liked Bethany Rose last week, for the first time, while she was doing her hip-hop dance, which the judges hated. I get the feeling Katie will win though. Partly because she's a really good dancer, partly because she's quite pretty, and partly because she's been pretty popular all the way through. I'll still probably be watching until the end though (or until all my favourites go, if that happens, I guess).

I'm having a bit of a conundrum at the moment. I decided to go get that MP3 player from WHSmith yesterday, while I was in Wakefield, and I decided to get the 8GB one, since it was only £10 more than the 4GB one. But it turned out even though they had the boxes, they didn't have the 8GB ones in the store, or not in the colour I wanted anyway. I decided I'd try in my local store today, and then decided to see if they had any in the online store or if they'd sold out there or something. But the online store has what looks like the exact 8GB one I wanted, in the right colour, for £10 less, and with free delivery. I couldn't be sure it was the exact one I wanted, and didn't understand why the price was different though, so I figured I'd at least go check out if my local store HAD any. And decide if I wanted to just avoid the hassle and buy one while I was there. Sadly though, the only way you can actually check if they have any is by taking the box to the till (since the boxes themselves apparently mean nothing), at which point it felt a little awkward to not buy one. And it felt a bit easier than worrying if the one online was even the one I wanted anyway. So I bought it.

But now I've got it home, and looked on the online store again, it's pretty obviously the same one, for two different prices. So I don't know now whether to take this one back and get it from the online store, or order one from the online store and wait till it comes and then make sure it REALLY IS the same one and then take the more expensive one back, or just to stick with the one I've got. For the sake of £10, it feels like both too much hassle to do it, and a bit daft NOT to do it. Also, I have the expensive one NOW. I don't know. Hmph.

It probably wouldn't be so annoying if I hadn't just had to spend an extra £12.14 on my first (of possibly many!) customs charge for a Threadless package. Growl.

Anyway. Horrible Histories is still back, OH I LOVE HORRIBLE HISTORIES. They aren't probably that good at women, looking at some of the recent episodes, and they also appear to have added a new person to their regular line-up, and that person is also white and male. But largely it's very good.

And then there's Coronation Street )

Things:

  • If your MP3 player ever asks you "Format: OK?" - click no.

  • I saw The Mummy 3 on Friday. I love the O'Connells. I don't care if they're rubbish. I don't think they are. They put The Mummy on TV yesterday as well. I had forgotten that Rick O'Connell is QUITE GREAT in that also. I remember being a bit in love with him when I saw it when I was 15. It's nice to find out that I was QUITE CORRECT. Also, it is very refreshing to see a film with female characters. Plural. Michelle Yeoh was great. And the other woman. And the other woman. And Evie. I didn't think I was a big fan of Evie, but this film proved me wrong.

  • The flat is a mess. I'm having a flat inspection on Tuesday and it needs to be clean. That hasn't happened so far.

  • I'm going to try to save up for Lustre. We'll find out how successful that will be.

  • However, it does mean that long weekend in Blackpool is probably off, because it's the weekend after that gig. Also there's a gig I wouldn't mind going to in Nottingham the day after that gig in Blackpool. Decisions, vaguely impossible decisions.

  • And I still haven't found anywhere that sells that band's CD.

One day I'll stop doing all my posts as lists of bullet points. Honest.
