John Bacchus is also a pretty beautiful human being. "Rattle his cage for me, would you John?" Amazing.

I have to go for a bus in about 15 minutes, so I must be brief, but:

On Sunday I watched the last episode in this series of George Gently, which was aslkdfsd. I wish there were other George Gently fans on my flist. Maybe I should go and find some. At the moment the main person I have to discuss TV with is my mum, and her way of doing so is to look at me politely until I stop. Then I watched the episode of Poltergeist: The Legacy where Nick investigates and gets kidnapped by his former Navy SEALs commander. I was worried it wasn't going to be as good as I remembered, or wasn't going to be as slashy, but no. Gay as anything. It all seemed a bit rushed though. Like, they had to fit Nick's past with the guy, the guy's supernatural thing, and his attempts to get Nick to join him into one episode. I can't tell though if I only feel that way because I could have happily watched 2 or 3 episodes of Nick being tied up in a cave with his former commander who loves him. Or 24 episodes. Whatever.

Season 2 of PTL is weird. They've made Derek make more sense, but because he makes more sense I just hate him more when he's a jerk. And the CONSTANT ROMANTIC INTERESTS, I can't believe them. And then they try to make me care about him and I don't, and it's just irritating. Philip doesn't trouble us as much though. And the stories - when they aren't about Derek - are often a lot tighter and more interesting, and the main cast sort of make fun of each other and love each other more. So it's odd. I can see why I loved it, but I can also see why maybe I didn't watch Seasons 3 and 4. Although I'm pretty sure I stopped watching them because there was a rumour one of the main cast would die in Season 3, and I was so afraid it might be Nick that I sort of cut myself off emotionally from it. Because that's how I roll/ed, with emotional over-investment.

Also last night I watched all the soaps, although not all of Emmerdale.

My sister's birthday went okay today, largely because I barely saw her.

Essentially, there was a little bit of bad timing, because there was a service on at a local church today to remember people who had recently died, including our grandmother. It's some link with the funeral service thing or something. But it wasn't on till 5 o'clock, so we figured as it's Sunday we'd all go out for lunch - me, my parents, my sister, her partner and her kids - and then go to the service afterwards.

When we go out for lunch, we usually go to a pub across the road at about 4 o'clock. However my sister wanted to go to a pub a bit further down the road, and said if we went at 4 she'd be panicking about not getting to the service on time. So she said 3 o'clock. Then today she called and said half past 3. My parents and I went down to this pub, got there at twenty to four, and my sister wasn't there. We called her and she said she'd be twenty minutes. We went to get drinks, and because my dad had only brought his card we asked about the carvery, and they said it closed at half past 3. My sister thought it stayed open till 5. So we called her, discussed it, and decided to go to our usual one instead, which IS open till 5.

So we went down there, and waited. 4 o'clock came and went, and rather than all be forcing our dinners down before we set off for the service at about ten to 5 we went to get our own dinners. And ate them. At about quarter to five my sister showed up, we gave her the tickets we'd bought for her, her partner and the kids to have their dinners, and her cards and everything, and told her we had to go. She actually seemed suprised and shocked that we were leaving her to go to the service. Just because, you know, we had been waiting for an hour. So we went into town and went to the service. Then afterwards mum and dad went up to my sister's house with some birthday cake, and I decided to stay at home. I felt a bit bad about it, but I'm really just not that interested in seeing her. And I'd been prepared to have birthday lunch with her, if she'd shown up. And I had the assessment tomorrow to start preparing for. So yeah. In the end, I only saw her for about 5 minutes.

So that's over with at least. The assessment tomorrow will probably not be that easy to deal with. I still don't really know what I'm going to say. Just what's happening in my life, I guess. And try to remember what I said in my appeal.

Also: tonight's George Gently. OH MY GOD. That is all.

I was writing a post earlier, but then I started looking some stuff up, and then I got a call from my mum saying my sister had no money and was in tears because her partner hadn't gotten paid, and needed some money, and could I help out. So I ended up going round to the cash machine and waiting for my sister to come round. Then she decided to stay for a cup of tea. So you're getting this while I'm watching the (rewound) soaps.

The announcer just said before Eastenders that "Now, it's a tough day for the women on the Square". So much worse than EVERY OTHER DAY I'm guessing.

Anyway. In the past few days I have:

  • Finished George Gently Series 2. Now I have no more George Gently to watch. But on the plus side, I am all caught up for when they apparently show more George Gently later this year.
According to [livejournal.com profile] gently_fans, a BBC press release says 4 episodes, and Lee Ingleby on Twitter says 2. But either way, there'll apparently be some. Hurrah.

I love George Gently, by the way. And Gently, and Bacchus, and Gently/Bacchus. People bang on a lot about how it's like a father/son relationship, and it kind of is, but it's also PLENTY SLASHY as well.

  • Saw the last two episodes of season 1 of Strike Back. [livejournal.com profile] jekesta was talking about it, and then I was looking through the Sky schedule and noticed they were repeating it. I watched one story over two episodes a year or two ago, and I seemed to remember enjoying it but thinking it was a little bit blah. But last night's episodes were really good. Richard Armitage is a bit great. I still need to see the first two episodes though. That's probably not the right order to watch them in. Oh well.

  • I saw the rest of Starkid's Starship. I do like Starkid. That's probably not a new sentiment. But I do.

  • On Eastenders Michael went off on one about how he is jealous of his dad, actually, because his dad and his two brothers have funny little inside jokes and he's not in on it, with his own family. He wants to destroy his dad, and it's unclear whether it's so he can finally forgive him and get back in with his family, or so he can get his dad out of the way and take over as the head of the family, or just so he can have his revenge and then get lost.

The storyline is probably not going to go the fucked-up way I want it to, but I am happy to watch for a little while longer just in case it does.

  • And on Emmerdale, the new Cain storyline doesn't even make any sense, because he was devastated when Jasmine got pregnant and had an abortion behind his back, and wanted to kill Sadie for paying for it. So it's awful, and doesn't even fit in with his characterisation. So hurrah.

I'd best go get my tea now. It's the season finale of Single-Handed tonight. Jack Driscoll, yay!

Tonight's Coronation Street )

Anyway. Other things I have been doing lately: I went to see the Horrid Henry film last week with my mum and nephew, and it turned out to be actually quite good. It started out seeming like it was going to be all about how school is rubbish and you should never do homework, kids, and really irritating, but it turned out not to be. And loads of the actors/characters were really good. Especially Anjelica Huston. And Dick and Dom were in it, wearing eyeliner. Which was kind of a suprise.

Single-Handed continues apace, although I loved Jack slightly less in last week's episode. Sort of spoilers )

Also, I have been catching up on Inspector George Gently. I got Series 1 last week, and I finally saw the pilot. Spoilers for the pilot )

And sort of because of that, I've ended up watching more of the second series of Luther today. I was watching it when it was on, but I think the second episode of it was on the week we went to Prague, and my parents watched it while I was doing something else, and then I never caught up with it. But I remembered after finishing Series 1 of George Gently that Lee Ingleby played the psychopath in the first two-parter. And in some ways I didn't want to watch it, because I thought the switch from lovely detective to crazy murderer and then back to lovely detective might be a bit jarring. But then I remembered that I've seen Series 3 of George Gently, so after I watch Series 2 I won't have any left, and if I watch Luther after that, the last thing I'll see of him will probably be the crazy murderer. And I'd rather not have that. So basically, I did watch it.

Luther spoilers up to 2.03 )

Oh yes, and Sugartown finished last night. Sadly, without any slightly abusive incest, as I might have hoped. Or [incest spoilers], I guess. But quite lovely-ly all the same. And it seemed to me to be setting itself up for a possible second series, which the BBC might go for, although I can't imagine what the story would be in another series. We'll see. But I enjoyed it, anyway. Between Sugartown and Eastenders, I'm feeling slightly let down on the slightly abusive incest front. TV is such a tease, sometimes. Also, after three episodes and the full mini-series, I still don't really know if Max is meant to be the older brother or Jason. Which seems like a failing of the show's somehow. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention properly. I might try looking it up.

Anyway. So they're my TV adventures lately. Also, there's been Hollyoaks. Hurrah!
