Internet went a bit mad again last night. I don't know what happened, really. Apparently it just stopped connecting at some point yesterday when my sister tried to go on, which upset her for most of the night, because she couldn't get to her MSN and messageboards. I assumed dad had fixed it last night when he went to bed early, so tried this morning, and yay, working! But sister was all 'I didn't know, I've been waiting since yesterday, I'm going out later (she didn't), omg'. So ten seconds later, I gave it up to her for, what turned out to be 5 hours. Sigh. Okay, angst )

But anyway. Back now, hurrah! Did not work yesterday. Or today. Went back into an employment agency I registered for ages ago though, to say I'd talked to someone else who was using them and they said they'd made them take a typing test, why didn't I take a typing test, can I take a typing test? They said the machine must have been down then - I still did not take a typing test. They said something about a possible job today of tedium and photocopying, but I haven't heard anything so far. The funds are down, and I really need to start putting something away for September (you know, for uni registration, new house stuff, TV licenses, Internet subscriptions, Connotations, yadda yadda yadda...). I can't go to Canterbury this weekend for my housemate's poetry exhibition - fare is £85 from Leeds, and I just don't have it. And it turns out it's at least £66 from Nottingham to Newcastle, so I've got to start saving for that too. No more DVDs for a while :(

But I did go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night! With my sister. Semi-angst. I am sorry. ). There was no trailer for Corpse Bride, as I had hoped, or for Goblet of Fire, as I had hoped. Sister did almost choke on her coke at the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants trailer though, which was amusing :)

Thoughts on the film )

And, I have been writing. Writing fic. Malcolm in the Middle, Francis/Spangler. Not porn, or explicitness, or even sexualness just yet. But fic. I'm quite pleased, but slightly afraid that it won't last. Will just have to keep writing I guess :) I even have a small piece finished, and it's funny, but I didn't want to post it. As though it would somehow jinx my writing spell. But I'm in the middle of a slightly longer piece at the moment, and have other ideas, so I'm going to post and not think about it. Yes. In a new post.

Things:

  • I have done the First Post. Private. thing. Also, I'm going to give my journal details and password to my mother in case anything happens to me in real life, so that you're not left hanging. Just in case.

  • Writing is fun! Particularly with the sun out and blue skies and warmth. It's like Fic Camp! There should so be a Fic Camp.

  • I am deeply tempted by all the pretty book on amazon, even the hideously expensive ones. Especially the hideously expensive ones. Never mind the fact that I'm reading about 3 simultaneously at the minute and have a further stack under the bed.

  • Ah well :)

  • My dad thinks it is unhealthy for me to spend so much time in my room - hardly a suprise. He cheerfully ignores the fact that much of the time I am reading 1984I am not sure what he expects me to do otherwise. Watch the soaps with him and mum? Hmph.

  • ::Refuses to think about [livejournal.com profile] jekesta's suggestion for a Drop the Dead Donkey/1984 crossover. Refuses to think about what a lovely Julia Damien would make::

And memery!

Downloaded RealPlayer in an attempt play Jekesta's Drop the Dead Donkey DVDs, after an attempt to watch an episode on Paramount was cruelly thwarted by the rest of the family. Well, it downloaded fine, but sadly it still won't play them as DVDs. All I get is the sound. It said something about downloading something to play the content, and then that it couldn't download that particular something. All I know is I can't watch lovely Damien 24/7. Growl.

Does anyone else think that (B&Q?) advert almost ordering you to 'tell (B&Q) what happens in your kitchen' is slightly frightening and 1984-ish? Hmm.

I screencapped the last half-hour or so of Die Hard. It turned up some suprising discoveries and some lovely shots of McClane's hair. Tiring though. And my stupid DVD player keeps shutting itself off at the critical moment! Just because I want it to stop going backward at 1/2 and start going forward at 1/4 so I can pause it and take a screenshot! Growl!

I hearby rec [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka's Divinity series. It's a Boondock Saints/Once Upon a Time in Mexico crossover with plenty of Norse myth thrown in, and my head's in too much of a funny place to read it but it looks damn good, and she's a great writer anyhow, so if you're into the fandoms check it out.

I've had an idea for a Nanowrimo novel, which I think could easily stretch to 50,000 words if I gave it a go. The problem is if I can set enough time out of studying and, y'know, sleeping in November. But I really am quite taken with the idea, and if it was Nanowrimo and the challenge was just to get the damn thing out on the page, I think I'd probably have a fair whack at it. Hmm. Details, details, cut in case you're not interested in the least )

Today was pretty bad family-wise. I'm pretty close to posting all the sordid details just so I don't have to keep making veiled and I'm sure annoying references to 'family drama'. And partially so I can stop worrying anyone reading thinks I'm whining about a few arguments. But I don't want to dump it on anyone either, and make them uncomfortable. And I don't want an excuse to go on and on about it here. Here is the place for joy and laughter and squee, and...pretty icons. Sigh.

It's really hot. Really hot :(

All done. Printed off, handed in...stamped...I don't know. But gone.

I have absolutely no idea what to do now.

Probably it will involve money. Possibly the renting of Lemony Snicket for Hook-handed man drooling, or the rewatching of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for Zaphod drooling. Huzzah!

Some things I found while I was not writing essays:

Random Green Wing piece wherein Guy is a wanker and Mac cannot belive it )
* * *
Random Green Wing piece featuring perhaps controlfreak!Mac and sarcastic!Guy, and omg possibly slightlydisturbing!sex )

Things we may learn from these things:

@ Fluffy happy love I cannot do, no.
@ Sex scenes, or scenes of a sexual nature, possibly not my forte

Also, if you are a surgeon trying to choose between having only an anaesthetist or an attending in surgery with you, do not base your decision on this fic. I am not a surgeon. I know nothing.

In other news: there might have been Cuba and omg, crocodile farms! with my parents this summer, but it looks unlikely now :(. Possibly there will be cheap crap holidays in Spain instead, or visits to Brighton. And my nephew is ill with a head cold, and cannot suck his dummy because he is all blocked up. Send him your thoughts please. :X

Ooooooooooooooooooooooopera! )

My jeans hurt. Ouch. And I'm going to McDonalds tomorrow morning with my cousin and her children. Possibly the easter eggs need to go in a box for a while yes. Dad has thrown internet print-outs of mini-disc recorders at me, wanting to order it and get it here before I go back, but now I'm all conflicted and wondering if I really want the iRiver (which I can carry pictures, ie icons, and text, ie fic, around with me on), or another, new iPod thing. And now dad's saying don't worry about giving me back the iRiver, I will use it - what does that mean?! Gah! Confusion!

Mostly I think I just want money, to buy myself random pretty things with. Not the best of long-term plans though. Hmm.

Attempts to write Lemony Snicket hook-handed man movie!fics that have been circling around in my head for a while were hampered (ie killed) by my complete lack of ideas for how they should begin. Which is annoying, because I know pretty much how all of the rest of them go. I have the first lines, it's just the 'setting the tone' bit that's getting away from me. The new, sneaky, smiling-from-under-a-too-large-hat book!characterisation is throwing me a little bit as well, though I do love it. I could do with him being a bit less dim though. Although that actually works for my fics. I busied myself laying the foundations of the Fernald/Violet playlist instead, including some songs that only fit some bizzare tragic love story of theirs in the future. They make me smile though! Quite why I think the Killers' 'Mr Brightside' suits Fernald(ie hook-handed man)/Violet though I don't know.

Watched 'Return to Oz' again this morning. Still creepy. But omg, Ozma/Dorothy! It made me think about a fic I heard of once (in a lullaby...::slaps self::), but never read, about future!Dorothy in Parisian opium dens, trying to get back to her dream world. Sigh. I suppose it will just have to be my beautiful dream.
