I do actually think that the majority of horrendous reading for uni is behind me, for a little while. At least, I don't think there are any more novels for Gothic in the upcoming weeks. Plenty of photocopies and research for Caroline Drama (that's right [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes, Rachael has 'Caroline' lectures and seminars. In your FACE! :p ), and oh yes, The Metamorphoses by Ovid. But I have reading week for that. And there's the fact that I've only read 160 pages of the Mysteries of Udolpho, out of 600 - but we can all do me a favour and pretend that's not true, and yes. A much less stressful rest-of-term. Aside from essays. But yes.

Rachael has no money. Rachael bought Sun Tzu's The Art of War and Eddie Izzard's 'Circle' and the new Empire magazine anyway. Rachael perhaps not the smartest cookie in the box. Eddie Izzard really awfully funny though. 'Drink this wine, it's a merlot?'. Why are all his shows filmed in New York? ::puzzled::

Also I semi-intend to get inspiration for Anton/Zavulon bunnies from 'The Art of War'. Therefore it's practically a public service. People are writing really good fic for Night Watch. Fic with plot. And dialogue. And things that happen. The bar is raised, people. But ee. I have a fandom. People are writing in the fandom. People that aren't me. Me and My Fandom. It is small but it is good. Yes :)

That said; something I've never done before.

And [livejournal.com profile] slippery_fish is apparently getting an at least somewhat Anton/Zavulon-ish fic betad, and I just know it will go up tonight, or tomorrow, and I won't get to it until Sunday or Monday or something, because my parents are coming down tomorrow. And possibly bringing Jack. But mostly bringing themselves and my airer and my CDs and money so that I won't have to pay for things, and god yes. But I don't intend to stop off and check my e-mail.

It would be nice if I had the internet at home (damn you, Wanadoo!). But in another way, it's quite nice not having it. From a writing perspective. When I have the internet on my computer I tend to look for other people's fic more than writing my own, and feel like I should be uploading it at the end of every draft. Without, I get to have quiet time wherein I can just write and it's nothing to do with the internet or fandom, in a way. Hmm. Most fanficcers obviously do not feel like this. Perhaps I have issues. But either way, it is nice.

Okay, apparently Eddie Izzard are not gay. Or I'm really, really confused (and I am). No matter. He are teh foxy anyway. especially when Dressed to Kill, omg )

The only problem is the DVDs were only rented and I can't keeeep them!! :(  Must see Circle, which have been highly recommended to me. Yes.

Went to a play last night, which was cold, and we were high up. But good play. Reminded me a LOT of Bullet Boy though, a similar film about subcultural London kids trying to go straight, but accidentally getting shot instead. And I was constantly having to take notes for my possible drama essay on it too, which was distracting. There was a nice moment of Hollyoaks-grief in it though, wherein the main character's young sister got shot, but he was still deliberating whether to go to Manchester with his girlfriend or not. But good, still. Funny and chilling and whatnot. It's weird, it seems like every good play or film I've seen recently, whether comedy or romance or thriller or horror or whatever is often funny as well as everything else. It's nice to know it has a place everywhere :)

Still attempting to read A Tale of Two Cities for lit. 400 pages by next Tuesday. I have done 35. It not going well :(. But I am happy enough. Wish I had time to read other things though. But got to watch Eddie Izzard for three days in a row, and Amelie (which I'm liking much more in hindsight, oddly). Hmm. New DVDs will be out soon (Hero and Oldboy and Sea of Souls, oh my), which means I will shortly be penniless, but perhaps happy. Maybe if I spend all weekend reading I can spend a whole day next week just watching crazy films, and finding some bizarre way to tie them together through crazy fic. Yes. Rambling now, so - ciao. (P.S. if any of you like poetry, pick up a copy of Wallace Stevens' Harmonium. It are teh fucking A)

Things Eddie Izzard clearly likes:

  • Bees
  • Speedboats
  • James Mason

Which gave me bizarre, deja-vu feelings while watching Unrepeatable. Overall, I think I prefer Glorious, just for it's mad randomness, and his outfit. Things I did like were the advertising bit, the vampire/supermarket survey, and cat's thumbs, for indeed they were genius.

Also, did not realise he was gay. This was revelatory. I knew he was a transvestite, obviously, but I chose not to make judgements about his sexuality based upon it. So hm. And also 'damn!'.

Hannah apparently did not come back to our house with Graeme Monday night, and he was all door-slammy and playing his music loud, so perhaps annoyed. Hmm. Kathy texted Hannah with words of friendliness last night, though, and Jos (I think) texted Graeme, so hopefully all will be well again soon. Although I still have to decide between living with strangers or living far from my beloved town. Double-hmm.

Creative writing magazine people e-mailed me back today to advertise their future issues, it essentially seems, and then a line at the end about maybe they'll use my stuff, they'll let me know. Fingers crossed ::fingers crossed::

Our stray cat apparently does not have a home, for we sent him away last night with a collar on asking 'is this your cat? call this number' and nobody called. This is puzzling, because he is tame and fat and healthy, but...alright. We shall probably begin feeding him more than milk. It is probably just a secret cat ploy to be fed doubly, but we are kind, and human fools, so will comply.

And in Hollyoaks; Lee and Bombhead carry out naked arse inspections, but are not gay. Lee's prejudiced, generall-angry father just accepts this, but they have not come out. Hollyoaks logic is fun logic. Also, Darren is now Ben's bitch and about one whiplash away from being bent over a rowing machine. Exciting. I watch with interest.

Things I have learned about chocolate:

  • If you give it up for a week, and settled into an agreeable life without it, do not suddenly eat as much or more as you would have before. You will feel sick.
  • Lindt chocolate truffles are indeed tasty, but so rich that if you eat more than one, you will feel sick (see above).
  • Either my Mark's and Spencer's 'mosaic' had been in the shop for a long time before last night, and went all hard and yucky, or M&S are just not so good at the Belgian-style chocolate (though the 'Swiss' is quite tasty. Yes). Also, when eating good, Belgian-style chocolate, dark is better than light. Particularly when that light is white, which should never EVER be eaten. Ever.

So no, the chocolate part of last night did not go so well. But it was still good, because I rented wonderful DVDs - Eddie Izzard and Amelie, mmm. And four for a fiver - still not sure how I managed that. Eddie Izzard-style 'spoilers' )

And then Amelie, which is colourful and lovely and sweet, yes. Very good. spoilers spoilers spoilers )

But though it was good, not a wrong note anywhere, it was not particularly life-changing, which was disappointing. It felt a little bit too much like a cartoon sometimes, and though I identified with 'does not play well with others', shy Amelie, with her boy problems, she always somehow turned around and was a machiavellian genius, which was confusing. Hmm. Still, it made me want to go see Paris. And learn how to make plum pudding. And live a prettiful, colourful life of risks, which led to my going upstairs and finally finishing the tiny, original(ish) pieces I wanted to submit to the uni creative writing magazine, which I will post here too, for perusal. Enjoy.

I have submitted them already, so don't worry about destroying my writing career with unhappiness-making (though constructive) criticism. My housemate, who is all 'poetry boy', seems to like them anyway, so...yes. Feedback at will.
