Hello. It's me. A few weeks ago I decided, since my computer didn't seem to be having the disk space issues it had been doing and I had a new external hard drive to clear space with anyway, to see if I could install an old game of mine, Morrowind, again. It turned out that I could, aside from some problems with the computer not recognising the game disk some of the time. But anyway, I've mostly been playing that rather than posting for the past few weeks. God I love Morrowind. I'm not exactly a big gamer, but it's probably my favourite game I ever had. And one of my favourite fantasy stories ever. But anyway.

I have been doing stuff though. I went to see the Snow Queen in London a few weeks ago, and stayed the weekend with [livejournal.com profile] cakesy. The Snow Queen was good, it wasn't quite the story I was expecting, but they made Gerda and the Robber Girl/Gypsy Girl sort of slashier, or at least as slashy, and it was very good, so I was pretty happy with it. And highlights of the weekend with Sarah included: finding reasonably priced lunch in Covent Garden market on a Saturday afternoon when it was pouring it down outside (a win for us, I think); going to see the Book of Eli which was a bit more pro-Christian/Bible than I was expecting, but had Gary Oldman and a girl who I was convinced was either Jackie from That 70s Show or the super cool gangster woman from Max Payne, only to find out when I got to Sarah's and the internet that they were ONE AND THE SAME; Ryan from the Office proving the canonicity of him being a Mafia Princess by randomly wearing a trilby and saying he'd "rather not say" where it came from; the twisted but quite beautiful love of Leslie from Parks and Recreation and Greg Pkitis; "I'm not crying, I'm allergic. I'm allergic to jerks." And Sarah, obv.

I also had two interviews. I had an interview last Friday, after I came back from London, which turned out to be a fairly short "first" interview, and they'd call me back if they wanted me to come to a second one. They called me back later that day to say they would like me to come back for a second interview, on the next Thursday. The day before, as far as I was aware, the last day I could hand in my notice to my landlords saying I wanted to end my lease at the end of February. Yeah. Anyway, the second interview turned out to be a little weird. As far as I was concerned I was interviewing for a filing clerk job, which turned out to be a temporary job that was only going to go on for 4 months anyway. However, at the second interview they started talking about certain questions being "more on the Clerical Officer side of things", and then explained about the "two positions", the Filing Clerk position and the Clerical Officer position. I don't know if I didn't read the letter properly or something, but as far as I was concerned I was applying for a Filing Clerk position and that was it. Call me old-fashioned, but I think people should tell you what position/s you're interviewing for. Before the interview. But anyway. There were some questions I just didn't know the answer to but probably wouldn't have researched anyway, and I kind of went blank on one about my worst points, but other than that things seemed to go okay. They said they'd call me that day or the next to let me know if I had the position, and they didn't call, so I'm guessing I didn't get it. Although I'm pretty sure they called yesterday (I recognised the number), but they didn't leave a message and they didn't call back today. So. I don't know. But I imagine they'd have called by now if they were offering me a job.

In any case, I went and talked to my landlords and they said I had until half past 5 on Monday to give my notice in, and I was at parents' over the weekend for my youngest nephew's birthday, but I came back on Monday, wrote it out and handed it in, since I hadn't heard from that place about the job. So that's it, sort of. I can cancel the ending of my lease within two weeks, at least, just in case they do call me back with a job, but other than that I am basically going to be leaving my flat in three and a half weeks time. It's kind of annoying - I do like my flat, and I don't know how I'm going to fit all my stuff into my room at my parents', or where it'll go if it doesn't fit, but then I really can't afford to keep this flat with no work. So that's that. Ideally though, I would have liked to stay through March. Since for some reason it's apparently Cuba Month in Nottingham in March - the Contemporary Dancers of Cuba are coming to one of the theatres, and some sort of Cuban music and dance show to another theatre. And a band I quite like, Passion Pit, are playing in Nottingham in the first week or two of March. But anyway, I probably wouldn't have the money to go see most of those things in any case, so it's probably better that I'm moving before then.

But now I've just got to get on with moving. I've got to cancel a bunch of things, tidy the place up, and start packing. My mum and dad are talking about coming down this weekend to start taking things back, since we only have a few weekends now to do it in, but I was kind of hoping to tidy the place up and take a few photos before I go, to remember the place by. And I don't know if I'll do it before this weekend, so I'm sort of thinking about putting them off. But then again we do need to get a move on with everything. So I don't know.

Anyway. In other news:

  • While I was at my parents' I picked up a belated Christmas present that wasn't delivered in time in December, the Wolf Almanac. And promptly spent most of my time at my parents' reading about wolves. I would be tormenting you all with Wolf Facts and discussing Erroneous Assumptions About Wolves somewhat endlessly, but I'm mostly a better friend than that.

  • I saw a part of an episode of Veronica Mars while I was at my parents', and am currently going through one of my regular bouts of rage about the lack of Aaron/Logan on the internet. Dudes. It was incestuous, abusive, AND Aaron was a killer. How could it not have taken off??

  • I saw a beautiful hat in the sale in Accessorise last week, on the very day that I really properly did not have enough money to buy it with. It was a black trilby with two of those scrunched-up felt flowers attached to the side, a pink one and a grey one. It was beautiful, sort of Gangster-Feminine, but the next day, when I had slightly more money, it had gone. At the moment I'm vaguely planning to make one. If I can find the right bits in a haberdasher's.

Another thing I've been thinking - while I do feel like any money I get from now on should really at least partly go towards paying back what I've borrowed from my savings to pay for my rent and stuff lately - on the other hand, when I get the £200-ish deposit back from my flat (assuming I do move out at the end of February and they don't feel the need to buy new furnishing with it or keep it for some reason), it would probably pay pretty much for me to go to Eastercon. Assuming there are still places and I can find someone to share with. Hmm. It's a thought, anyway.

Hello, I don't think I have cancelled my/our double room for eastercon, I keep meaning to and not getting around to it. If you decide within like a week or so you can totally still share with me, unless this whole deciding not to go and then thinking maybe you will is an elaborate way of not having to share with me and I am RUINING it with my lack of organisation, if that's true then I am very sorry, you will have to do better.

I'm sorry about your flat and the people at interviews not giving you jobs immediately, whether they be the jobs you are applying for or not. I think it's desperately mean of Nottingham to celebrate Cuba just after you leave.

Damn my cunning plan foiled

Hello. I didn't know we had a room booked! I wasn't sure I'd ever mentioned any commitment to going. I'd be happy to share with you though, if I do decide to go. Money's a bit tight at the moment, unfortunately, so I'd rather have a few days to think about it. Although technically I can always get the money from my savings account. But yes. I'll give it some thought :)

I see on the Eastercon page they have an "Unwaged" rate for con registration. I'm struggling to think how you could prove that though. Phone number of your probation worker?

If I wasn't moving, Nottingham would be celebrating Cuba during the month of my birthday, which would be kind of lovely. As it is it's sort of like Nottingham hates me. Having said that though, the Nacional Ballet de Cuba is coming to London just before and during the weekend of Eastercon. Which could work out quite nicely if I decide to come. And don't mind getting out to a hotel near Heathrow after one of the shows, of course.

You hadn't said definitely you would come, but the hotel sells out really fast so I had reserved us a room anyway, thinking either you OR Sarah would fill it. But then neither of you wanted to come, so I was meant to cancel it, only I didn't. Let me know either way:)

It says the unwaged thing is for people on unemployment benefit, and they might ask you for proof when you get there. So I guess you'd have to take your . . . paperwork thing? I don't know.

I want to go to Eastercon. I've decided. Don't cancel the room, dude.

I was going to download the registration form and send it with a cheque, but it wouldn't download at the print shop, so I'm going to do it online. How long will we be staying for, will it be the Thursday to the Tuesday (checking out on Tuesday)? I'm going to have to put my future address on the form but oh well. Are you going to the dinner on the Thursday, as well?

Yes, it's five nights. I don't think we're going to the dinner on Thursday. You need to put me as a sharer, and if you get an option please pick that we cannot possibly sleep in a room that once had smoke in it. ::DANCES YOU LOTS::

What name should I put I want to share with? Is it jekesta or your real name?

Oh dear. It's not letting me put down which room I want because they're all 'sold out', and it won't let me send the form without putting down which room I want. Hmm. Do I need to email somebody?
