Every time I go to a linked tweet today, I get completely surprising trending hashtags on the right. First was people comparing Sex and the City to the Sopranos, after a journalist I read compared the two. Now it's Azaelia Banks. What's happened? What did she do? More drama with Grimes and Elon Musk (which was a surprising enough news story when I first read it). I'm scared to google things anymore.

And finally, my favourite message from children to NHS workers.

I watched Jaws. Aka The Shark That Won't Quit. Funny to think, now, that it was almost certainly a female - all the largest individuals of great white sharks are. Which means there was in fact a major female character in the film, even if she was a monster who had to die at the end. Also, as always, worth pointing out that humans really aren't good food for sharks, and the bigger the shark, the less good we would be. It's not anything to do with anthropomorphising or sympathising with sharks - we don't have enough meat on us to be worth the effort of hunting down. A shark might certainly bite a human, but they're extremely unlikely to hunt us down. The real horror film was whatever was happening in the seal colonies nearby.

You will be happy to know that there is fix-it fic for Jaws, where Quint lives at the end. I love fandom the most. Even now.

I don't have my Fuck You Shark, You Are Drunk icon. What a terrible fate has befallen me.

Well I finished RDR2. Spoilers )

And now I shall go look for fic, and most of it will probably be Arthur/John, and a lot of it will probably be het, and a lot of it might not be very well-written, but my God, I shall look at it and I shall hope.

This Terbil Draem seems quite appropriate for our political situation at the moment. And while we're on the subject of Terbil Draems, since I might not ever talk about them again, if I could frame this one and hang it on my wall, I would.

At work I'm having to constantly leave notes for the other receptionists who don't follow the current car parking policy and don't make sure we always have spaces in case we need them, and give people spaces when they really shouldn't and could if they wanted to just say no, and today the Monday/Tuesday woman responded to my notes from yesterday about how she'd given away a space she shouldn't have by saying "Okay, but people are always moaning about all the empty spaces, so shouldn't that be addressed?", when I copied her in on an email quite recently where someone brought that up and I responded - with great care and effort - as best I could, and I forwarded everything on to our manager and asked him to look into it and he hasn't, and left a note - with great care and effort - for the other two receptionists telling them I'd done this and how I/we couldn't really do anything else, and I don't think she really cares about that, she just wants to make her job easier by giving away a space she shouldn't rather than arranging a different space. And my other note to her was about a package that was on reception that hadn't been logged on our packages/mail form, and she said she never logs packages on there unless they're for IT, because one person requested that recently, and that's absolutely not how the rest of us do things or how I was told to do things, and I checked with the post room to make sure that was how we should do things and it is, and she obviously hadn't checked with the post room because she just left a note saying 'if things have changed, I'll do it differently'. And I'm not her manager or the other receptionists' manager, and I'm not the Head Receptionist and they're not paying me to be, and I don't really want the responsibility or stress of telling the other receptionists how to do things so they work for all of us, and I don't really know what to do about it except tell my boss, who generally doesn't do anything when I tell him things like this.

Well. Yesterday I was going to post and say I was sorry for America, and everyone living there. And now I just feel sorry for Britain, and everyone living here. What a mess.

To think this morning my main concern was whether or not to buy new Christmas shark wrapping paper.

I have been going through Terbil Draems, because I am quite easy for daft humour. I quite love it.

Went to the Nutcracker tonight. It was very nice. And I've been meaning to go see it at a Christmas for a while, so it's nice to have that done.

Oh my God, is it just me, or is like 100% harder to type in Google and Youtube now they have the whole predictive text boxes? I know they are a source of hilarity to Tumblr and the internet at large but ksdfkjksdalj. Typing and the ability to type - whether or not people always manage or bother with it - is what the internet is founded on, let's not take that away.

To prove my point, EVERY SINGLE LETTER I typed in the above paragraph appeared on screen WHEN I PRESSED THE KEYS, even when I used backspace! Will wonders never cease?

In other news, I got my period. Ow. Things I didn't get: the three packages I ordered this and last week, or an email telling my Netbook had arrived in the store like the shop man assured me it would this week. Growl.

On a lighter note, a thing you should probably all check out: Crimer Show. I promise you you might not be enthralled, but you won't be disappointed.

In other other news, some games aren't coming out quickly enough, and some are coming out much much too quickly. Another Assassin's Creed? Already?

The only thing slightly more annoying than Livejournal being down, is the fact that my Twitter account is also somehow broken, so when Livejournal is down, I can't even tweet about it. Or talk to people on Twitter. I still have Tumblr, I guess? But Tumblr isn't really where I go for text posts. I should email Twitter about my weird account. I can share links, but not just write a tweet. Or see conversations. Or see anything prior to the top page of my friends feed. Sigh.

Anyway. In my RL I have mostly been playing Fallout: New Vegas. I love Fallout: New Vegas. I have a terrible ship and I am pursuing it. However, it has occured to me that getting addicted to a new game is possibly not the best thing to do a few days before I go away for the weekend. CAKESY IF I SIT UP ALL NIGHT ROCKING AND TALKING ABOUT PERKS I AM SORRY.

I was also considering making a year-in-review post on or around New Year's Eve that was basically about how I fell into videogames this year. But Livejournal broke and that didn't happen, so: I fell into videogames this year.

Also there was some drama with my sister, but that all came to nought (so far). So I guess it's fine.

My Twitter is weirdly broken, for reasons I don't really understand. It won't load up more messages when I get to the end of the page, and it won't let me reply to anything or retweet anything, even on other's people twitter pages. Hence: Here is an article about a man trying to make a gingerbread house, that made me laugh till I cried. And I had words of wisdom for some of my flist regarding Bird Wars, but they are lost to the ether now. The short version was 'crows' though.

Some other things that have happened in my life:

  • I made it to Holmfirth for the art market on Sunday. Despite it taking two hours to get there, getting up late, and missing the next bus after I did get up. On the way, I discovered exactly how beautiful some of the rural towns only a few hours busride from my house could be. The main ones being West Clayton and Denby Dale. It's hard to describe, they were just full of weird little cottages and churches and things that obviously used to be churches but weren't anymore. They were sort of creepy and beautiful at the same time. It was a really nice busride. Then I got to Holmfirth, which was also beautiful. It's an old mill town, and they've got a slightly exaggerated idea of what a river is, but it's a really beautiful place all the same. The art market was also lovely, and I manfully bought hardly anything. Unfortunately, the jewelley maker I'd been meant to be picking my necklace up from had forgotten it, which was disappointing, but I know her quite well and she was really nice about it, and she's promising me a big discount when I finally do get it, so I'm not too upset. But it was a really nice day out either way. I had lunch in a tearoom, decorated with little teapots. It was wicked.

  • I may have made a huge mistake in, having finished the main questline of Oblivion, installing and starting the two expansion packs included in the Fifth Anniversary Edition at the same time. The problem is that one comes before the other, it doesn't have to but technically, you know, but I like the second one better. So I'm just playing both! And not really focusing properly on either! And it sort of gives me a headache! But maybe it's better than just playing one until it's used up and then using up the other, I don't know. Probably I should still just pick one and stick with it.

  • Yesterday I managed to make it to my jewellery course, go most of the way to make my first 'piece' (a very, very small house with windows on that might be going to be a brooch or pin), then get to Wakefield for my counselling, and in between I got a call offering me an interview for the job I applied for. Considering that I started my period on Monday and didn't know if I was going to be able to stand up yesterday, it turned out to be a very good day :D

  • Death Valley turned out to not have done the horrible thing I thought it might do, hurrah! And it did something else that pleased me. So hurrah again!

  • Grimm 1.03 )

  • Once Upon A Time 1.04 )

  • Also, adverts. During the time when I wasn't posting, I discovered what was probably my least favourite advert in the whole world. It's had a lot of competition over the years, but it's definitely, definitely the McDonalds 'On The Street Where You Live' advert. It's just such a perfect combination of trying to be something it isn't, hideous, and nothing, that I really can't believe it. Shortly after I made this decision, I didn't see it as much, and thought they'd pulled it. But no. It's still on. It's horrific.

Also, on a similar note but much better note, Charlie Brooker and We Love Hollyoaks have pointed out the Sevenesque-ness of the new John Lewis christmas advert. And now I can't unsee it.

  • Someone I don't know is following me on Twitter. I forgot about that aspect of the whole social networking thing. Ugh. It's fine I'm sure. They haven't talked to me yet. I just cannot imagine what they have joined up for, looking at my tweets page. But they did. Fine.

  • That is all the news I can think of right now.
