girlofprey: (Doctor Who Luke Rattigan Computer)
The would have been the title of my last post, if I'd watched the episode of Futurama I saw before posting it instead of after.

Did a random scan of my computer today, and it found some malware. I do scans all the time and they almost never find anything, so I'm a little worried that malware/adware from before is still lurking around. Plus my laptop was running hella slow yesterday, although I did have a few youtube videos open at the time. Still. My antivirus software suggests running Windows in Safe Mode and scanning again - after a number of experiments I have determined I don't know how to restart Windows in Safe Mode on my laptop. Pressing F8 didn't seem to ever do anything, and there was nothing helpful in my Samsung Recovery software either. The other option suggested is restoring to a previous version of the hard drive, which seems a little drastic since I don't know if anything's actually wrong.

Q: If you think you might have a virus on your computer, are you safe to back up any files? Like if it's just a word document and it looks uncorrupted is it probably safe, or are you risking just spreading the virus to other machines? I have some writing I'd rather not lose in restoring a previous copy of the hard drive, if I don't have to.

I have been looking after the house on my own for about two full days now. So far, the cat has brought two dead birds to the garage door and either pooed or been sick in the garage, it was hard to tell which. I really thought that our old and slightly senile dog would be most likely to be the problem child this week, but apparently not so much. Also, a spider has made a huge web across the entrance to our little side of the garage bit where the dog goes to do his business, and I keep having to break it to get past and clean it up, and it keeps rebuilding it back up again. But so far, I am coping manfully with it. Womanfully? I am coping, either way.

Mostly at the moment I want to buy ALL the DVDs, but instead I am playing ALL the computer games. Fallout 3 keeps trying to lure me into one of the add-on adventures I have, because I got the Game Of The Year edition, with desperate and very urgent people begging me to come help them with big quests. But I haven't finished exploring the Wasteland yet, so it sucks to be them.

Mostly I am a little upset that there aren't more Talon Company or Colonel Autumn related prompts on the kink meme. But that's probably just because I love psychos, so it's not so much of a suprise. Even though it kind of is. A whole REGIMENT of psycho mercenaries, and no kink meme prompts? WHY?

Also, [terrible Futurama feelings and pairings that I'm not going to tell you about], but I found some, yay!

I got back from Connotations yesterday. It was a bit odd this year, I think because I hadn't made sure to have enough sleep before going so I was tired a lot, and because I'm not really watching any shows at the moment apart from soaps. Between the Wylde storyline on Emmerdale finishing really soon and the Ste/Brendan storyline on Hollyoaks just starting up and them doing quite a bit with them onscreen, I'm a bit soap mad at the moment, and suprisingly few people wanted to talk with me about Nathan Wylde (OH I LOVE HIM) for 3 hours. But it was lovely to be there and lovely to see everyone, and we had a fancy new hotel I was incredibly impressed with. I was with [livejournal.com profile] jekesta and [livejournal.com profile] cakesy, and our triple room (aka double room with a camp bed) had a sitting room/entertaining area. I kid you not. Also, there were three course meals basically every night, and suited hotel staff kept bringing random trays of cake and smoothies out every time we had a break. And I think the rooms only cost about the same as they did at the Park. It was awesome, especially when we learned our way around.

I don't have much to say about the panels, except that looking back it's kind of hilarious how quickly the Anti-Heroes (Not Villains) panel became all about villains. Also, we learned a bit more about what that The Losers film [livejournal.com profile] katemonkey keeps talking about is all about. Also, I found out about the Futurama Citihall vid. Also, [livejournal.com profile] jekesta, [livejournal.com profile] cakesy and I all looked Moderately Tidy at the Moderately Tidy Dinner. Also, it was pretty awesome.

[livejournal.com profile] cakesy and I were going to go see a film together or something yesterday after leaving the hotel, but we were foiled by the fact that Durham only has one cinema with two screens, and there was nothing on there till 3 and there was nothing we really wanted to see on. So we decided getting the train was probably the best thing to do, especially with our suitcases and whatnot. An extra exciting bonus of the week for me was that on the way up on the train, I saw a couple of deer out of the window, and I couldn't decide if they were fauns or not. They were quite small. And on the way down I saw deer again, and then a fox, and then another fox. It's probably a bit ridiculous how pleased I am about seeing random wildlife, but I spent most of my childhood in my bedroom, and I didn't exactly start going on nature walks when I got to be a teenager. And apparently when I was young there was a fox living somewhere near our cul-de-sac which used to wander around the houses sometimes, and when I was living in Beeston with K and J she said there were urban foxes about which she and J saw once or twice coming back from nights out, and I never saw either of those. So it's nice to actually see apparently really common animals now and then. Also, DEER. That was really lovely.

Today I mostly ventured out of the house to go uptown and get the new soap mags, which I buy totally for the articles, and by no means for the pictures of Ste and Nathan Wylde. That doesn't make it better, does it? Anyway, there's a couple of really hilarious interviews in there with Amanda Donohoe insisting that Natasha Wylde is at heart an honest person, and that everything she's done she did to protect her family, and then giving really vague answers to whether or not Natasha would confess to killing her husband if she found out Nathan might be tortured or killed over it. YOU HAVE TO THINK THESE THINGS OVER.

In other news about what telly I've been watching, I had an incredibly ITV night last night. It started out with Hollyoaks at 6.30, then at 7.00 it was Emmerdale, at 7.30 it was Coronation Street, at 8.00 I went upstairs to watch Ray Mears' new thing, then back downstairs at 8.30 for Coronation Street again, then new Whitechapel at 9. This year's plot seems slightly more ludicrous than last year's, and some of the tension has gone now that the whole team seems to love Chandler, but it's still pretty enjoyable. And I quite love Chandler/Miles. Although Chandler/Kent is quite sweet too. And this year there is Suprise Peter Serafinowicz. Slight character spoilers ) So we'll see how that goes.

I went to my parents' for the weekend. I don't think I mentioned that. Anyway, I'm back now.

I don't really drink, but I'd like to say that I've never been more tempted to buy wine than when I was getting a TV mag at my local shop, and spotted Red Dragon wine, and then Pink Dragon wine. NEVER MORE TEMPTED EVER.

Anyway, I have a few things to say. Mostly about TV and other things I watched. And here they are:

  • Jimmy kissed Carl in Emmerdale last week. He and his fiancee and baby were out having a drive in the car, and they got run off the road by someone who said their brake fluid was leaking. Jimmy's fiancee blamed Carl because he'd bought the car, but it was actually the person who ran them off the road, Carl's girlfriend's son, who had unscrewed the brake cable in the first place, because he and Carl don't get on and had argued. Anyway, Carl knew and told his girlfriend, but Jimmy didn't, and on Friday (the day after the accident) Jimmy came downstairs while Carl and his girlfriend were talking and Carl apologised again. Jimmy said it was okay, because no-one was hurt, and it had made him realise what was really important. Carl's girlfriend said "Life?", and Jimmy said "No. Family", and then he leaned over and kissed Carl on the cheek. Carl smiled and was like "Okay then". It was very good. I love Emmerdale.

  • I watched some snooker over the weekend. Unfortunately I always had somewhere to go or something to do when a match was starting, but I saw a bit of the Robertson and Higgins match. I love John Higgins. And I don't really like Robertson, something about his hair and eyebrows and eyes makes him look a bit not-human, but he is a very good snooker player, and I sort of have to respect him because I think if I was playing John Higgins, I would just constantly miss shots just so he could get up and I could watch him play. So well done him, really.

  • I went to see Up with my mum and my oldest nephew on Saturday. It is great, I very much enjoyed it, and I'm pretty sure he did too. My favourite character was almost certainly Doug. And I really loved the short before the film too.

  • In Casualty, Ruth is having angst because she accidentally got pregnant and then took an abortion pill without telling her boyfriend because she didn't want to ruin her surgical career when it was just starting, and Jordan is recovering from an operation on his brain, trying to cope on his own, and sort of thinking that his life isn't worth living. Now is the PERFECT time to bring Toby back, as a recurring character maybe. CAN YOU HEAR ME, CASUALTY PRODUCERS? PERFECT. They probably won't though. I hate them a bit.

  • Over the weekend, I also watched the Malcolm in the Middle episode where Francis and Spangler have a long talk in Spangler's office about his early life and his mother. Oh I love Francis and Spangler. I had partially forgotten how much.

  • I also managed to see most of the Futurama feature film Bender's Game. It wasn't laugh-out-loud funny a lot of the time, but I'm almost tempted to get it at some point just for the sake of Hermaphrodite, the loveliest of the Centaurs. I also saw part of The Wild Green Yonder, and I am intrigued enough to want to watch more. I think maybe the feature films, even work better split into half hour long episodes.

  • Thanks to my parents having recorded it, I saw the first episode of Emma, having missed it last week, and then the second episode last night. I'm actually quite enjoying it. I love Johnny Lee Miller, I know that he is a bit rubbish sometimes, but I love him. And then there was someone else in it that I thought I recognised, but I think I was mixing him up with someone else, and then someone else came along who looked familiar, and it turned out to be Rupert Evans, or John Myers from Hellboy. Which was quite nice.

  • Then last night I was mooching about late at night looking for something to watch, and lo and behold, I found Blackadder's Most Cunning Moments. With Tim McInnerny! And Percy scenes! And Darling scenes! And I love Percy and Tim McInnerny and Darling, as some people may be aware, so that was quite nice to just find on the TV. Yay.

And now to catch up on Adam and Joe and a few other things. And then probably bed.

The Roswell episode of Futurama is on.

Fry is rather attractive in army fatigues.

And hurrah, the next Futurama is the one with the worms! I love it so much. "This is my home! My ancestors came over on the Sandwich! I raised a cloud of children here!" :D

The tulips I got for my birthday are wilting. I think I sort of prefer it. In a scary Funhouse kind of a way. They look like this:

Tulips )

My ruby bracelet, on the other hand, looks like this:

Rubies, omg )

And I love Carl from Emmerdale, who looks like this:

Carl )

Or did in 2004 anyway.

I had a plan to cook tonight. But on the other hand there is a cottage pie and ready-made salad in the fridge. So probably I'll actually do that. I'm not an expert on Adaptation and Appropriation yet. Woe.

I feel like I want to say something about the Avian Flu thing. I don't really know how I feel about it. When I see the papers saying things like 'AVIAN FLU', I don't care so much, but when people are on TV saying 'now, people really shouldn't panic...' I start to get worried. I try to reassure myself that flu epidemics, like the ones we're regularly supposed to have, usually mostly effect the very young or very old - except that I've got a one year old nephew with a dodgy chest, and a wobbly old grandma. So it's worrying me a bit. But probably it'll be one of those things like BSE and Foot and Mouth that mostly effect the farming industry and no-one else. Hopefully.

Anyway. It's Green Wing night tonight! That came round awfully quick again. Please to have another half-naked Mac and Guy wrestling scene please. With the same music. Oh, and I finally watched episode 2 of Life on Mars! WHY has no-one yet made any Sam or Gene 'For Great Justice!' icons? And possibly a Warren 'all your bases/witnesses are belong to us'? It is a SHAMEFUL crime. Shameful.

And I'm going to London! I'm going to see Have I Got News For You! I think! I need to look up train prices and things. And some nice person ::waves to them:: offered me a place to stay if I want to go to London to see Wicked. Which is nice. Actually...would anyone on here like to go see it with me? I'm thinking especially of people who I know have read and love the book. Just a thought.

Also: Elle just asked Toadie if he was okay, and BLATANTLY MEANT 'a gay'. FACT.

ETA: Omg! The girl leaves, and the pants come off! ::agog::

Hurrah!

It's the war episode of Futurama! With the MASH parody!

iHawk!

ETA: "Is it you?"
"I don't know. Is it you?"
"What do you mean you don't know? Are you you, or aren't you?"
"Who wants to know?"
"Oh Fry, it is you!"
