A poll.

ETA: Okay, the poll refers mostly I suppose to pov-heavy fics, like vignettes. Or...yes. Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] jekesta.

OMG! I feel all discriminated against by not writing fic. Also omg what if there is no POV in the fic and it is all third person I do not undrestand. This is because I am not a writer.

Randomly I answer another question for NON FIC WRITERS and my answer is CHEESE.

I know I should have forgotten about this by now OBVIOUSLY, but if you still have the dtdd disks I sent you, then if you download the xdiv plugin from here, when your internet is your own again, obviously, yes, then hopefully you be able to see them. In windows media player. Otherwise the latest version of real player should be able to play them automatically. We were sorting through stuff because Clare couldn't play them either and only got sound, not picture, which I think is what you were having as well. Anyway. Yes. Hm.

CHEESE!

:) Thank you for your continuing attempts to make my laptop work when it doesn't want to ::gives flower::

It is indeed just playing sound and not picture, with both your lovely shiny DVDs and the Malcolm in the Middle DVDs someone else kindly made me ::pines for the Spangler/Francis goodness:: When I tried to play them on Realplayer they seemed to imply I could download something from the RealPlayer site that would fix everything - but when I was at home with the internet and clicked to check for such a download, it just turned on me and crushed my hopes and dreams. Sadface fullstop.

I will try your method and hold out hope. I fear it may be a bit like trying to get Wanadoo internet on my computer though: Just Not Going To Happen :(

I'm fascinated by how my favourite characters think rather than how others see them.

Hmm, see I'm very often the opposite, which is annoying. I think it's the kinds of characters I tend to love - random, often-angry, slightly crazy types who tend to make a big show of themselves and embarass themselves and me, but whom I love anyway. See: Craig, Barty Crouch Jr, the Hook-handed Man, etc. And mostly I just want to write fic from the pov of other, more normal characters, thinking that 'omg, they're so crazy, and YET SO PRETTY!' - which I recognise is bordering on idolisation and a little bit self-inserty. But apparently quite a few other people do it too (by which I mean most people who answered my poll), though perhaps still not to my extreme, which makes me feel a little better.

I'm trying to break down that way of thinking a little bit, since I've realised it doesn't make for great writing and tends to make my head hurt - fleshing out my favourite characters from just crazy-and-pretty, so they have a bit of depth as well, which really is more interesting than what I have been doing. So...yes. Getting there, but apparently not alone anyway :)

Heh, my enduring favourites are sometimes not the prettiest to look at but have an unusual outlook on life, and I really should vary POV a bit more because sometimes the best way to show the contrast is to view it from outside. Also, I tend to fall in love with a character's particular voice and get obsessed with trying to write in it.

Or maybe I should just stop being lazy and write *something* from any POV. :)

I suppose I'm quite lucky, because the 'other halves' of my pairings tend to be, as you say, not necessarily pretty but awfully interesting. So, if it works out well, I get the best of both worlds :)

For example, I've become slightly obsessed with Mad-Eye Moody at the moment - am trying to figure out a way he and Barty Crouch Jr can have crazy adventures that doesn't rape destroy problematize the canon too much. It's not really working...

Or maybe I should just stop being lazy and write *something* from any POV. :)

Shhhh!!!

It's not laziness, it's planning...
