Weather is crappy, so we did not have a family picnic in the park as was semi-planned. Mourn.

We had one in the kitchen instead. Which essentially meant lots of plates of everything everywhere and people tripping over each other attempting to get to these plates and minor knife skirmishes, but it was tasty mm, and fun. Many people are here. Katie and dad and mum and Jack and Jack's father and grandma. And the dog. Close quarters. I escape to my room whenever possible.

Am taking a break at the moment from Harry Potter, because I cannot read entire books in one go, and I cannot understand people who do. Perhaps if it is a short story and there is a chance of finishing it, but big books? No. Especially not children's books. The words just blur together! And the characters go all two-dimensional and things keep happening but I forget to care. I need time between chapters - not a lot, but some, to process and think and consider and give it all layers, you know? Anywho. I would watch episodes of Angel, but for some reason right now I can only do that after dark. Perhaps I am channelling Angel. I don't know. Also I am slightly worried because I am approaching the episodes with Lindsey now, and there aren't that many, and as soon as I do they will be over! And I won't really be able to rewatch them again and again because I should probably get out of the house into that sunlight thing before I sort of shrivel. This was a lot easier when the sun was actually shining and outside was pretty. Hmph.

Brief thoughts:

  • Harry really quite in love with "the Prince" (hehe)

  • And Dumbledore.

  • And seems to be repressing quite a lot with regards to Draco, who we don't see nearly enough ::mourns him::

  • Clearly Harry is upset Draco wasn't sending him a necklace.

  • But Harry is still a prat and I hate him. I hate them all! Him and Ron and Hermione. Well, maybe not Ron - I have a certain exasperated fondness, when he's not bullying abusing first-years. And Hermione is fairly cool, I suppose, even if she is a self-righteous know-it-all (this coming from a self-righteous know-it-all). And I tell myself that their flaws are good, and JK is showing us that heroes don't have to be perfect all the time, and we shouldn't be entirely contemptuous of know-it-alls, but I still mostly think things like 'Die Hermione die! Choke on your own buck-teeth!'. They are teenagers, and teenagers are generally annoying, and she's getting that across pretty well but they shouldn't be allowed to win things and know things and save the day too, just because they are Brave, or Intelligent. Or else I will die of despair. Yes.

  • It is nice to see a Gryffindor being a bit of a bully too (see: McClaggen).

  • I'm quite intrigued by young!Tom Riddle, but - another insane, cowardly bully? Are there no more just plain old evil baddies anymore? I get that this is probably a good, realistic point about 'people' to be too, but grrr. Especially when JK seems to be setting out to not make her heroes moral absolutes either (I think).

  • I sense that Tom Riddle 'never wanting or needing a friend' will spark off a few 'oh yes he did!' Mary Sues perhaps. I know it's sort of intriguing me. Lone Wolf evil mastermind? So there.

  • I'm getting more and more intrigued by Morfin/Merope incest as time goes on as well. And Blaise Zabini's mother. Not Bellatrix though. She can go die.

  • That is all.
