Oh, also - there are a few versions of it. I'm not sure how it works, but basically he wrote the novel of the BBC series, then did an American version, with things explained for them and extra things, and things removed. And then there's the 'author's preferred text', which I linked to above, which is an amalgamation of these, with more bits added and more bits taken out. Probably it doesn't matter than much in terms of the story, but if you care about Completeness you might be as well of trying for the Author's Preferred/2005 one. If you can find it.

Yes. Sort of. He wrote the novel while writing/filming the series, including lots of bits that got cut out of the final show. So it's all a bit of a mess. Just stick with the 05 book and don't think about it.
