Hello dudes. I've been busy over the past few days. Busy trying to finish Folklore, and catch up on Hollyoaks. FOR YOU. Maybe. Um. Anyway, I'm hopefully nearly finished with Folklore now - I'm onto the final fight I think, but it's kind of really hard, so I'm just trying to power up my creatures again. Hopefully soon though. And I think I got onto the Hollyoaks episodes from two weeks ago on 4od, so hopefully I'll be done with them soon as well. And then I can get back to - um. Posting about Coronation Street. Maybe.

Anyway. I mostly wanted to talk about TV I watched last night: Vera, and Atlantis.

Also - this is probably one for the Watchmen (the movie) fans on my flist more than anyone else - a post came up on my flist over the weekend which might be the coolest thing I've ever seen. Suprisingly for me, I think the outfit I like the best is the Nite Owl one. But they're all pretty cool. It sort of makes me want to dress up myself. Not that I can afford most of the clothes in those collections. It did make me have a look at Polyvore though, and even have a go at it myself. I'm not saying that mine is anywhere near as good as the ones in that post, but check it out - now you too (if you had the money and access to the shops that sell the clothes) could dress like Priti from Snowflakes!

Priti (Snowflakes)

Priti (Snowflakes)

I don't have a picture of her, and I don't want to copy and paste someone else's webcomic, so you'll just have to have look at her in this strip, she's the tall one in yellow and black.

I quite like Polyvore. It's fun. Although for a while making that set, I started to wonder if maybe black shoes with no heels existed only in my mind. As you can see, I wasn't entirely successful. But I'm pretty happy with those shoes anyway. And it was still quite fun.

Apparently they're going to be resurfacing the road outside my house for a few days this week, including tomorrow, starting from 6.30am, so I should probably get to bed shortly after this. Hmph.

I've been meaning to post this for the last few days. I've not been posting much recently. That is probably, I realise, the only thing I don't need to tell you. The explanation/excuses is partly I think to do with the fact that nowadays when I come onto Livejournal, I have about 100 or so messages since the previous day from comments on the Watchmen Kink meme, which I feel the need to try and clear out before the next hundred by the next day, and which I must carefully go through to make sure none are about pairings I like. Almost none of them are. This is a little bit annoying. But mostly it's to do with the fact that I haven't really been doing very much lately. Without a job to get up for, I've been sleeping in a lot, and staying up a lot. I have discovered that going to bed just as it's getting light is not the best of plans. I've basically only been going out to buy food for the day, and I've been skipping meals if I sleep through them. I'm basically sort of hibernating. Which is not the best job-hunting tactic, really. So I've not really had much to post about.

But - I'm posting now just to say that I am still around and reading stuff, although I'm not doing much commenting (sorry), and to thank lovely [livejournal.com profile] jekesta, who has posted me the first season of Leverage, which came today, because she is ace. I have not seen it, THANK YOU XXXXXX

I have been doing some stuff though. Things that are good recently:

  • My mum came down to Nottingham and we went to see the Dancing on Ice live tour. And discovered just how high the back row of Nottingham Ice Arena (also known as Nottingham Trent FM Arena) is. Vertigo inducing, honestly. And the ledge the chairs are on has space for about your feet and that's all. But you do get used to it after an hour or so. Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean skated their Bolero in front of me, live. It was a bit great, although I annoyingly drifted out and missed a bit of it. But it was still great. Donal MacIntyre wasn't there, and it turned out Chris Fountain was only doing Fridays and Saturdays or something, which we found out after the show. But Roxanne was there, and she skated to I Wanna Be Loved By You, and Hallelujah, even if it was the new Alexandra version, and her Hallelujah routine was a lot better than it was on the TV, and she is just great, I love her a lot. Only two of them skated their Boleros, which is the way it was in the show, but I thought they might do something different on the Bolero anniversary tour. Oh well. I suppose they all get the pleasure of planning a Bolero, anyway. But it was still great, and my mum even shouted us both a hotel room for the night. Which was also pretty nice.

  • I saw The Good, The Bad, The Weird at a special screening at the Broadway. I missed the very beginning, but saw most of it, and it is not only brilliant but beautiful. Visually beautiful. And brilliant.

  • I saw the current RSC version of the Tempest. The RSC do a special £5 deal for 16-25 year olds, so I went down on Thursday, got a ticket, and went and saw it. And it was great. It's a South-African influenced production, I think, and all the actors were great, really, and I usually have a problem with the way Miranda is played, always a little too prim for the way I imagine her, but their Miranda actually seemed like she had probably grown up on a deserted island, which was great. I enjoyed it a lot.

  • David came back to Coronation Street after a few weeks away, and almost immediately started gaying it up with Gary. He's pretending to be his friend now so he can stitch him up later on. I think Gary will be suspicious, but then start to believe him, and do something actually nice for him, and then David will be conflicted, and they'll end up actually being friends. I'm pretty biased though. At the moment Gary is mostly reacting with a mixture of "What?" and "Are you trying to seduce me, Mr Platt?". It's lovely. Also, David's grandmother has given him his job back at the salon. He could start cutting hair ANY DAY NOW. Mostly he's been getting the tea. But still. Probably he just needs to brush up on the art. ANY DAY NOW.

  • Also - Tony Gordon is amazing and I love him. I almost don't care what he does, so long as he doesn't harm characters I like. He's just casually sort of going around owning everyone at the moment. I love that they had him kill someone, and then not just spend the rest of his time worrying and angsting over that. I'm aware that he's still a killer, but he gets to do other stuff as well. It's brilliant.

  • Also, I saw The Boat That Rocked, which is good, and a few weeks back The Damned United, which is similarly good. Hurray.

Those are the main things. There are probably more. But yes. I'm still looking for work. I'm still not currently working. Which is pretty annoying.

Hello. I'm still around. I'm also an idiot, which should suprise no-one. I spent most of the last few weeks telling myself "I can't apply for jobs right now, I really need to tidy my flat", and "I can't tidy my flat right now, I really need to apply for jobs", and in fact, doing neither. I did manage to get enough actions for my Jobseeker's diary though. And apply for at least a few jobs. Which is a plus, really. I haven't posted Mohabattein back to [livejournal.com profile] whatho yet. I'm really sorry. I'm going to do it very soon, honestly.

What I have mostly been doing is looking for Rorschach/Adrian and Rorschach/Comedian Watchmen fic, and tracking the kink memes currently going on. With a slight dabble in Harry Potter Petunia and Pansy/Luna fic. What I have mostly found is that there isn't as much Rorschach/Adrian or Rorschach/Comedian fic as there is Rorschach/Nite Owl fic. To a pretty high degree. I was considering setting up a Rorschach/Adrian community, as there isn't one and it would be nice to have all the fic together, but suggesting it on the comms gained mixed opinions, so I might put it on hold for now.

Anyway. Besides that, I did have my birthday on Friday. Which was nice. I went back to my parents' on the Thursday, as I'm still not working, but it turned out we couldn't do anything on Friday until my dad got home from work and my nephew got out of school anyway. When they did, we went indoor, glow-in-the-dark-painted Atlantis/Mummy's Tomb mini-golfing. Which was fun, except for the part where we had to wear clear-ish 3D glasses which did, indeed, make the paintings on the walls look 3D, but made everything else look wobbly and out-of-focus, and basically made us feel a bit dizzy. But it was good. And then we went to Pizza Hut for a meal, and I got a medium pizza for the price of an individual because they had no individual Italian bases left, and then we went back to my parents' and had cake, and my nephew stayed at my parents' overnight even though his bedding and room weren't ready because he/my sister insisted, and it was slightly daunting, but alright.

What was less alright was the part where it turned out on Saturday that my dad had booked him and mum in for a test drive of a car, and he thought it would be fine to leave me to look after my nephew for "an hour/not long". Ten minutes after my parents left, my nephew decided he didn't want to watch cartoons anymore and wanted to read by himself on a couch. I went to the bathroom and told him I'd only be ten minutes, since he runs up and down the stairs without us all the time anyway and doesn't need watching all the time. I was in the bathroom for about ten minutes, and then I heard the sound of my nephew running up the stairs, and then the sound of something falling down the stairs. I rushed out, and he was laid at the bottom, crying, saying he'd fallen down the stairs and hit his head on the radiator. A quick call round revealed that both my parents had left their mobile phones at home, and I was left checking my nephew's head, asking him which stair he was on, which he couldn't tell me, and asking if he felt sick or tired and trying to check his pupil dilation, which he didn't want to let me do. He was fine, pretty much after about half an hour, but it was still quite scary. My parent's finally came home two hours later, and I made a bit of a big deal about them leaving their phones at home. But anyway. It all turned out okay.

We went out for Sunday dinner on the Sunday, and then I came back to Nottingham. Since then I have mostly been trying to run around and register with a new agency and pay some bills, and decide what to spend my birthday money on. Both of which are going fine this far.

I have Casualty news from Saturday. A porter man was going around trying to sort out a leaving do for a nurse who was leaving the department, and trying to get a leaver's book filled in for her, and he went into the men's toilets to speak to Mr Jordan. Jordan said something about the man following him around, and the porter man said "I need your entry", and then they sort of looked at each other for a minute. JORDAN IS AS GAY AS ANYTHING, AND WHERE IS TOBY? WHERE? Nowhere to be seen. Hmph.

Tonight Eastenders made me cry for the first time in a few months, and while that's an achievement I suppose, it still seems like a pretty rubbish way to end that quite high profile, quite drawn-out storyline. I had sort of heard things about this possibly being what was going to happen, and about the particular episode that made me think it was going that way, but still. And particularly the way they ended up doing it, which was a bit ridiculous. OH GOD Characters that are spoilers ). Oh God. In my head they get an alternate ending and spin-off where they go off and fight crime or demons. Oh god. Dude. Honestly.
girlofprey: (Dance and Fight (Cullens))
I just watched The Apprentice Does Comic Relief, but Jonathon Ross did keep me from enjoying most of it. Jack Dee sort of made up for it. But anyway. The point of this post is that I have been around doing stuff. This stuff is:

  • I had my first Jobseeker’s appointment for my current claim on Monday, and I gave in the book with my little diary in it as I came in, and when I got called to the person seeing me's desk, he asked me how the job search was going, told me about a Jobseeker's job that I'd already heard about, had me sign the little signing on form, and told me I could go. IT WAS A WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE IN JOBCENTRE APPOINTMENTS FOR ME. I liked it. I get the feeling the appointments will get longer as the claim goes on, however.

  • I saw Watchmen on Monday. I really quite liked it. Well, apart from Spoilers ). I'm speaking as someone who has not read the book, though, I read a few pages a couple of months ago and liked it but never got around to finishing it, so I don't really know what issues there were about adapting the comic to the screen, or (I assume) shortening the story. But as a film, I thought it worked really well, and I didn't feel lost for not having read the book. And no, I really liked it. It will probably surprise no-one that I liked Rorschach the best, and I thought Jeffery Dean Morgan was great even if the character of the Comedian is a bit 'hmm'.

What I'd like to know now is if there's an AU out there where it's just the masked heroes and Doctor Manhattan never existed. I get that the story is mostly about nuclear power and the bomb and stuff, but from a character point of view, since they don't seem to actually be super-powered like I was sort of expecting them to be. Vague spoilers for the plot )

  • I went to see Northern Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake on Tuesday, even though I probably can't afford it. But I missed the one on at Christmas, and I did want to see a traditional version. It turned out this wasn't a traditional version at all, they'd changed the story so it was about an 1920s/1930s-ish boy in a wealthy family whose brother drowns in a lake on their estate one night while they're both out playing, and who then grows up into a teenager struggling with this tragedy and homosexual feelings for his best friend, and who sees visions of swan maidens one night when he's upset and sitting by the lake. It was very good though, I really enjoyed it. I really like ballet, it's just a shame it's so expensive. Oh well.

  • Speaking of dance-y things though: Sadler's Wells, what is up with you putting on the very shows I'd like to see at a time when I can least get to them or afford them? A Flamenco festival. An entire festival of flamenco, just as I found out I couldn't go see that Tango show I wanted to in April because it's sold out. Beginning THIS WEEKEND. Honestly. Is there a flamenco festival in Nottingham? No. Is there a tango festival on in Nottingham anytime soon? No, but there's apparently a show on in London in, oh, a few weeks time. I suppose I should just take the ballet and the dance things that are on in Nottingham and be happy with them, and possibly get a job so I can go to these other things. Still. Hmph.

  • On the other hand, I was looking up British lighthouses, and I found out about one in Whitley Bay that's decommissioned, and which visitors can go look round at low tide. it turns out it's about one stop down on the metro from where you have to get off to get to the hotel for Connotations. I might go and have a look around it if I have time before the con starts. Rah.

  • And I finally watched Mohabbatein, some weeks after [livejournal.com profile] whatho sent me the discs. Spoilers ). [livejournal.com profile] whatho, I will mail it back sometime next week probably. THANK YOU FOR LENDING IT TO ME. Sorry for keeping it for a bit.

  • Tomorrow and next week my plan is to actually get around to applying for some jobs. I get the feeling I should be getting a move on with that.
