Yesterday I woke up to pretty massive period pains, and despite getting up pretty late (3-ish), I ended up going to lie down again for a while because curling up on the couch made stomach feel like it was stabbing me, and standing up made me feel hot and like I was going to throw up. Which I did not want to do, having just taken a painkiller.

But eventually I felt much better, and last night I was rewarded with Inspector George Gently, Sugartown, and new Dragon's Den. Inspector George Gently was supposed to be about the hippie movement in England in the 60s, and Gently and Bacchus finding themselves in the middle of a social and sexual revolution. I had high hopes for the episode, and it did not disappoint. I don't really understand the lack of fandom for George Gently. One of them's a Professional, and I've heard loads of people talk about how much they love Lee Ingleby. But anyway. Whatever. The episode also featured someone who is currently in Hollyoaks, which was quite pleasant as well. Hurrah.

They didn't really explain who the new person was on Dragon's Den. Only after rewatching it a couple of times did I hear that she got rich through the haulage industry. She has weird hair and weird make-up and weird clothes/shoulder pads. But sometimes she was really lovely, and sometimes she got really angry, and she has quite a lovely gravelly voice. So I quite like her. Also I LOVE DEBORAH MEADEN. That is all.

Today turned out to not be a very much better day. Our dog is quite old now and a bit less in control of himself than he used to be, and after spending a while downstairs having a sandwich and whatever, I went to go out and found that he'd pooed all over the garage. Including one bit right between a pair of my trainers, though not on them, so I guess I was lucky in a way. Then I went out to the shop, and I had some music in, and there were about three or four young women walking the opposite way to me across the street with their kids, and I heard one of them shouting, and I turned round to look, and she was shouting at one of her kids. Pretty nastily really. But I was obviously looking for a moment too long, because she noticed me, and started shouting something about how she was shouting at her kids, did I have something I wanted to say about it? I still had my music in, so I couldn't really hear her, so I just looked away and kept walking, and that was that really. But it wasn't very pleasant. Then I went home, messed about in my bedroom for a while, my dad came home and cleared up the garage (I would have liked to clear it up for him in some ways, but I really just wasn't touching that), and then later on was watching TV, and the dog started squeaking again, so I went to let him out, and found that in the garage once again our cat had left a dead animal for us. Except not so much the outside of that animal. My dad ended up clearing up that one too. Poor dad.

But after and in between all of that, I did get the usual Monday/Friday night soap marathon. Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Eastenders, Coronation Street. Phew.

Hollyoaks was quite good, plenty of Ste/Brendan, but I might well have enjoyed it more if I hadn't, just before watching it, read a Ste/Brendan fic that I thought was just a fic, but I eventually realised was the events of the episode from Ste's point of view, which the writer had obviously seen on E4 on Friday. And didn't warn for spoilers for it, or anything. It was still good though.

Emmerdale )

Phew. And now Coronation Street )

And then there was Eastenders. The Michael/Anthony corruption storyline isn't being as brilliant as I'd hoped, but there's still a little bit every episode where Anthony will specifically say something either acknowledging Michael or trying to get Michael to agree with him, and Michael largely ignores him, but sometimes he'll stick up for Anthony or look over when something Anthony has done has gone right, and smile a little bit. So I'm still watching it. I get the feeling that it might become a bigger thing later on, when the storyline progresses a bit. I have to say though, Michael isn't doing too great at manipulative incest at the moment, but he is doing pretty well at being a nutcase. Honestly. He's like the Joker. He's not as good as the Joker. But you get the idea. For a soap. It's all little twitches and funny smiles. He's very good at it. Kind of a jerk, a lot of the time, but pretty good at it all the same.

Also, I found myself slightly shipping Masood/Yusuf. Now that Yusuf is all canonically acting a bit creepy, and their tension has become slightly less about being weird around Zainab, and more about shooting each other heated looks across tables and making catty remarks at each other. I'm not interested in them, but like I say, I like it better them just hating each other than being weird with Zainab. So hurrah. I guess.

And now it's really hot, so I'm going to go change, possibly.

So. We've been having some problems in our house with the internet for the past few months. My dad has a wireless modem which he uses in his office, and I can get internet from in my room upstairs on my laptop. But every now and then my internet wouldn't connect and I'd have to come downstairs, or sit on the stairs and do it, and sometimes it wouldn't pick up a connection until I left my laptop in my dad's office, near the router, for 15 or 20 minutes. And sometimes my dad's computer couldn't get the internet either, for a hour or so, and a few weeks ago my dad was changing some lights/light fittings and he had to turn all the fuses off in the house for half an hour or so, and then the next day he had to do it again, and every time he did the router would stop working for about 5 or 6 hours, I think. So he decided to try to solve the problem and get a new router. Which is installed, and working fine, and he's getting the internet on his computer, and on his laptop, but for some reason my laptop is not picking it up. He thinks it might be something to do with my laptop only picking up G-something, and the new router is transmitting N-something. And maybe we can do something so that it picks up N-something as well, but we don't know yet - my laptop is about 7 years old at this point. But basically at the moment, I can only go on the internet in his office. Which, when he's in the house, he's not always happy about. So basically, my internet access is a bit restricted at the moment, and I may not be around as much as I have been. Which in terms of how much I've been posting and commenting will probably not seem very different. But in terms of how much I've been on and reading, will be VERY DIFFERENT. :(

Anyway. So many things to say. I saw Casualty over the weekend. Casualty )

And I have to go now and watch Hollyoaks. OH HOLLYOAKS. It's still as kind of shit as ever, but at the moment Ste is busy not approving of any of Brendan's criminal activities, but apparently pretending to be him when he thinks no-one's looking. And Brendan is treating Ste like a son, and a hooker, rolled into one. IT'S A BIT BRILLIANT.

Hello. Livejournal is a little tricky lately, between my going to college and looking after my nephews one and a half days of the week, as well as trying to do anything else, as well as my basic lack of energy to do anything and my general doubt about being able to express anything I want to say. But. Every now and then I get some time.

Things:

  • I am on my period. Which is kind of a relief, because I can't remember when I had my last one. I either forgot or decided not to keep a note of it in my diary for whatever reason, but it was definitely before Devon. However, at the moment my womb is mostly reminding me why I don't really like to have periods all the time. Ouch.

  • I had sort of my first dental work ever on Wednesday. Apart from the braces I had for a few months when I was in highschool. I hadn't had a dentist appointment in about two and a half years, and with my anxiety and OCD-ishness I had spent quite a bit of that time skipping brushing my teeth as often as I should (yes, I know), so I was kind of expecting the news to be bad when I got my first appointment with a new dentist here in my hometown. And it wasn't good. The dentist used the word 'destruction' a lot. And made me an appointment for some work, and it said on the form they gave me that that would be four fillings. I was kind of dreading it because I've never had a filling before, but when I got there on the day, he said he wouldn't be doing any drilling - what he meant was putting some filler on/in my affected teeth to stop them being worn away anymore and keep them from being as sensitive. Which was much better. It was all done in about an hour, and he even said to the dental nurse(?) while I was there - in between saying 'you see what acid can do to teeth? Look!' - that it was all acid damage, and I had good dental hygiene, and there was no decay. So score. I've had the stuff in for a few days now, and it makes my mouth feel a bit weird and like I can't clench my teeth properly, and have the back ones connect completely. But I can eat properly and it doesn't hurt and it's not as bad as it could have been. So hurrah!

  • Fiver are showing old episodes of Two Guys And A Girl on afternoons, the last couple of seasons where Ashley was in them, but they are showing the same ones on repeat for a week at a time AND TAKING FOREVER to get to the ones where Pete and Ashley start to get closer then get together, OH MY GOD. Pete/Ashley was one of my big het ships when I was young, and I think one of the first that I shipped and then they actually got together onscreen. ALSO PETE/ASHLEY WAS AMAZING. I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN. FIVER!

  • I also saw some snooker today. I got up late, came downstairs and switched the TV on, and there was a Stephen Hendry/Ronnie O'Sullivan match, at (0) 0 - 0 (0). It seemed difficult to pass up. Mostly I was impressed with Stephen Hendry's eyes (AND HIS SNOOKER SKILLS, OF COURSE HIS SNOOKER SKILLS, DUDES), and the fact that Ronnie looked incredibly happy every time he missed anything. As if inside he was going 'I might LOSE to STEPHEN HENDRY!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D'. Spoilers for the result )

  • I also saw that Labour Leadership Question Time the other week where Ed Milliband publically declared his love for David Milliband, and then the rest of the panel fought over who he really meant. And when David Dimbleby had to plead with Diane Abbot to 'give him a chance', about someone else she wasn't impressed with. Mostly I decided they all seemed a bit more level-headed and serious than various papers and news articles would have me believe, and that I sort of liked all of them except David Milliband, who seemed incapable of answering a question he'd actually been asked, but especially Diane Abbot and the man with the red tie. But I also decided they were politicians doing very public political debates while vying for a position of leadership, so it was probably best to not trust what they were saying too much. With regards to my favourite I am a bit 'whatever', but it seems like it might be a bit of a mistake to have David Milliband leading them.

  • Also, [livejournal.com profile] hestia8 WROTE ME EMMERDALE FIC! NATHAN/DECLAN EMMERDALE FIC! NATHAN/DECLAN EMMERDALE FIC EXISTS BECAUSE OF [livejournal.com profile] hestia8! Almost every day since then the internet has been a LITTLE BIT DISAPPOINTING.

  • Also I saw The Other Guys. OH MY GOD I LOVE THE OTHER GUYS. I LOVE TERRY HOITZ. AND ALLEN GAMBLE. AND OH. It is by no means a brilliant film, and I am aware that I have slightly more of a fondness for Will Ferrell films than many people I know. BUT OH MY GOD. It is one of the few films this year that I have loved enough to want to spontaneously go see again, rather than going mostly to check something I didn't catch the first time. By which I mean, I saw it last Saturday, and then on Monday I saw it again. Although in fairness, A vague spoiler I wanted to check, and then other spoilers ) I LOVE TERRY HOITZ. AND MARK WAHLBERG. AND THE OTHER GUYS.

  • Connotations is VERY SOON, dudes! Sadly not soon enough that I have nothing else to do before then - unfortunately I have another Jobcentre appointment the Wednesday before, which do tend to be pretty undemanding, but which I often stress about anyway. But still, VERY SOON. I have a plan - my plan is to have watched at least the end of Season 3 of The Office, since I started watching it and I OWN IT, and all of Trinity, SINCE I OWN IT, before I go. We'll see how that goes. I guess.

  • Soaps - Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks )

So yes. Dental work, political thoughts (sort of), and soap news. That's basically the update you were expecting from me, wasn't it? IT'S THE ONE YOU GOT, ANYWAY.
