Well, I feel like I'm in an oven, and I'm sat in my shaded room with all the windows wide open. I stick my hand out the window, and it is again, like sticking my hand into an oven. The weather needs to take pity on us.
"I asked the Lord to make it warm", and so on.
Also, I got my extension for my sick note, which it always sounded like was a pretty straightforward thing to do. But the doctors' receptionist didn't ask me how long I wanted it extended for, and they've extended it until the middle of August. When my mum questioned this, the woman said it was just a guideline and I could choose to go back to work whenever - but when I first got my sicknote and asked if I could go back in during it if work really needed me (it was during a week I knew they were already having staffing issues), I was told it was illegal to go in to work while a sick note was active. So ???? I don't know. I'm going to go in to work anyway I think, next week.
Also, I asked my manager to look over the Sick Pay form they sent me again, because I couldn't do anything with it till my employer filled it in to say why they don't pay sick pay. He said he would. The form makes it pretty obvious, I feel, that they should be paying me the basic rate of sick pay. So we'll just see what happens with that.

Date: 2019-07-27 01:44 pm (UTC)Sick pay is very confusing, because you can get sick pay from your company on top of Statutory Sick Pay, as like a perk, and they might not give you that (which is maybe what my company meant? But they still didn't discuss that, so it's still weird). But you are definitely legally entitled to Statutory Sick Pay, I have learned. I used to temp and they didn't pay sick pay, which I thought was just "if you're off for a day with a cold, we won't pay you for time you haven't worked". Which seemed sort of fair? And I didn't really think about it until I'm now off for weeks at a time, and it turns out the law's very different if you're off for four consecutive days or more. But do my company know that? It seems ridiculous they would OWN THEIR OWN COMPANY with employees and not know the basics of sick pay. But it also seems ridiculous that they would flout such an obviously cut-and-dried law. I guess I'll vaguely find out if I continue this.
I know. At the moment, I honestly can't imagine going to work anywhere, but I know that I would probably feel better if I worked at a place where I talked to people regularly, or had a bit more direction, or had a sense that anything I do changed anything, or it just felt more rewarding in some way. It's just. Ugh.

It has been incredibly hot here too most days. I would love for the weather to become just a bit cooler even.

Date: 2019-07-27 01:48 pm (UTC)The form basically says "dear employer, which of the only legitimate reasons for not paying sick pay, listed below, apply to you?" And the reasons are things like if I was on maternity leave (I'm not), if I was in jail (I'm not), or if I haven't actually started the job yet (I have). It seems pretty cut-and-dried, frankly. Hopefully I won't have to put up too much of a fight to get them to acknowledge that.
It finally rained! It's still a little uncomfortably hot sometimes, but no longer unbearable, so yay!
