girlofprey: (Strictly Come Dancing dance big skirt)

  • I hope Matt Baker goes through to the final in tonight's Strictly results. I hope so greatly.

  • I watched about half of the first session of the Higgins/Williams match today on the snooker, then I gave my dad the remote and he found a rather beautiful film about Robert Mitchum being a marine on an island with a nun. TV has been quite good today. Hopefully it will continue with the Strictly results. I can't believe Scott. And I'm kind of much less fond of Natalie, since she's started going all weird and emotional all the time. And talking about how Scott is the best partner she's ever danced with, when Ricky Whittle got her to the final last year. Whatever, Natalie.

  • I'm spending a lot of my time nowadays still going on Digital Spy most days, in the vague hope that they will, for some reason, mention Lyndon Ogbourne and Nathan Wylde, in a positive way, through some chance. I am a sad picture of fannishness just at the moment.

  • Coronation Street happened this week, the tram week happened, and the live episode happened, and it was all kind of amazing. A part of me thinks they put too many storylines into the one night/week, and it was all just a massive coincidence - on the same night, there was Peter's stag party, Molly leaving Tyrone, Becky's sister coming back to take Max briefly and demand more money, John killing Charlotte, a gas explosion that then caused a tram crash, and an accident on a nearby motorway that meant they couldn't get as many ambulances and fire engines to the disaster as they would normally be able to. And the accident somehow knocked a lot of the mobile phones out. But it is the anniversary week I suppose. But it was great, especially the live episode, and David, oh God David. After having Nick not involved at all in David's recent charged-with-attempted-murder/epilepsy storyline because he was involved in the affair-with-Leanne storyline, when Nick was trapped in the Joinery David ran up and joined the dangerous attempt to clear the rubble to try to get him and the others out, and when Nick was brought out he ducked under a police cordon and raced across the cobbles to him. I just love how even though David is often properly awful, and does genuinely awful things, sometimes they have him just be really, genuinely lovely. OH AND THEN HE HUGGED NICK IN THE HOSPITAL. It was beautiful.

A lot of it was sad though, and we're meant to be expecting another death - I don't think that's a spoiler since ITV have been using the tagline 'Four Funerals and A Wedding' all week, and I don't even know for sure. However, it's become unfortunately comedic since I realised that apart from one, all the people who seem like they might die next week all rhyme - I think it's either Keiran, or Rita, Peter, or Sunita. Hmm. Although it may be none of those four - some people are wondering if they might find someone when they clear the rubble, or if the man trapped in the car that the fire officers mentioned last week might turn out to be someone from the street. We'll just have to wait and see.

  • Also I watched The Event. Sophia is kind of fabulous. Kind of - properly fabulous. When we found out that Thomas wasn't Sophia's lover or whatever, but her son, I kind of liked him a bit more, in an Ominous Person With A Parent (mother, yay) They're Clearly Conflicted About sort of way. Then we met awful Isobel, and found out he was sleeping with her, and planning to kill his mother, and I disliked him even more. I was genuinely half-convinced that it would all be a big twist, and Sophia would already know about it, and the stuff Isobel had said would be there wouldn't be there, and Isobel would have double-crossed him or something. But no, Sophia knew nothing about it, and still managed to talk her way out of it, basically by challenging her son to shoot her in the head, and then when he broke down and cried telling him she loved him. Then she went and met Isobel, and basically made her shoot herself in the knee. And partly I was thinking 'wow, that is kind of hardcore and harsh, Sophia, because they were weirdly plotting against you', and then I remembered that she was also doing it because she didn't want them trying to stay on the planet and take over from the human race. And I realised once again that she is AMAZING, KIND OF AMAZING, I LOVE HER.

  • And I went to see two films. I saw the Warrior's Way, which is mostly like a cross between a martial arts film and the Lemony Snicket film, with the effects from Ninja Assassin. And, mysteriously, bills the Asian lead below all the three of the other white main cast members, including the villain who isn't really in it for that long. Okay. And I saw the new Narnia film. Oh Edmund. Oh. Mostly I liked the inclusion of White Witch as part of Edmund's temptation storyline, because they are one of my pairings and the fairly strong 'Let's go look for clues. And make out' vibes between Edmund and Caspian. But it was also a very good film overall, I think. Which was nice.

I sort of hope they kill off Rita, Sunita and Peter just for the rhyming! Oh. I have lost track a bit of who is dead because people I thought had died didn't quite. Ashley and Molly, is that all we've had so far? Would John's murderee woman count as one if they switch her off and she dies? Maybe Tyrone is going to kill Kevin. Maybe Fiz's baby will die. I hope it's not Kieran. I thought for a long time Gary was going to quietly kill himself. Is it Gary? David's boyfriend from the army.

David is so lovely and loving FAMILY and I know he sometimes pushes them down stairs, or nearly kills his niece with drugs, but he sort of just wants everyone to be okay and under control and safe.

(I LOVE SOPHIA SO MUCH. I miss her being near Blair Underwood, but I love her. She is not in Coronation Street so she doesn't have to die.)

I am imagining weird comedy sketches now where they can't get to the hospital or use the phones, so the news of someone dying has to come through the radio, and it's all crackly, and all they can hear is the last two syllables, '-eta'. Every time anyone tries to tell them. Sad but kind of hilarious. So far, Molly, Ashley and John's murderee woman have died, at the end of the last episode on Friday we had a shot of John in her cubicle and you could hear a flatline sound. Did you watch Friday's episode yet? Bits of it were great and John's bits, largely, were horrible. I wondered briefly if Sally might kill Kevin, and that would be our last death, but Tyrone's probably in the running for it too. I don't think they'll kill off Fiz's baby, Hope, because they'll probably want to keep the 'John feels like he needs to stay out of jail, to look after Fiz and Hope' storyline going for as long as possible. But you never know.

I hope Peter doesn't die, because I like him, and it would be really sad for Simon to lose his dad as well as his mum. I have a feeling they won't because they'll want to keep the Nick/Leanne/Peter/Carla storyline going. Rita and Sunita though, I haven't heard anything about, so it could be them. Unfortunately I did hear ages ago that they were going to kill off either Michelle or Kieran in the crash, and I find it a bit suspicious how quickly he got the all clear after his bump on the head. But no-one's really said anything about it recently, or since then I think. And it would be really sad for Michelle's new boyfriend to die, as well as most other men in her life. I don't know.

I don't think it will be Gary though, because they've just started up his PTSD storyline, and I think that's going to continue on for a while. I saw in a soap mag recently shots from months ahead, I think, of David and Gary on a night out, because Gary's all upset, but they have one too many and get stopped by the police, and then Gary goes a bit weird and attacks them. The mag was all 'Gary gets arrested, and David, as usual, gets away with it...bad David', but I think if Gary attacks the police due to his mental illness, that's probably not going to be David's fault. I hope they have David and Gary become friends now, they had them acting a lot more friendly a few weeks ago, when Gary got back from the army, in a rather lovely, co-dependent kind of way. And if anyone is well-placed to guide Gary through being a traumatised young man, it's probably David. Although not necessarily in a guiding him to sanity sort of way.

I love David, and

but he sort of just wants everyone to be okay and under control and safe.

he really does. And it goes for other people too, obviously his relationship with Tina is much less good now and they've had plenty of fights, but there was a bit a few months/a year ago when she was with Jason, and she had a fight with him, and David saw her walking across the street drunk and trying to get into a car to drive somewhere, and he ran across the street and stopped her, and took the keys off her and through them into the builder's place. And she twisted his arm really painfully, and told him he was awful and everyone hated him and she bet his mum wished she'd had that abortion before he was born, and he just looked so hurt, but he still wasn't going to let her get into the car drunk. I love him so much, he's lovely.

I KNOW DUDE, she's kind of awesome among the aliens, but it was brilliant when she was near the president as well. She'll probably get back with him eventually, she might need to what with all the other conspiracies going on around her. Probably it's just a MATTER OF TIME. She also doesn't rhyme with the others, so I assume she's safe. ALSO I LOVE HER. OH MY GOD.
