girlofpreyA few weeks ago, I went on the internet and scoured it for every picture of Nathan Wylde I could find. It was one of the best things I have ever done. So guess what you get now? That's right.
Nowadays I genuinely can't be bothered uploading the pictures to Photobucket and then linking to them in a post. So if, by some chance, you want to see the full versions of these pictures, you will have to click on them. Sorry and all.
Anyway. This is Nathan Wylde:

From some things people said at Connotations, it occured to me that I haven't really talked about the fact Nathan has a family very explicitly. Nathan has a sister, Maisie. Here they are together:

This was from quite early on in their being in the soap, when Nathan had slightly odd hair. But I still quite love him.
They arrived together in a pink cadillac. No lie:

This was because before their parents moved to Emmerdale and they moved up with them, Nathan and Maisie basically lived together in London for a few years. Because they loved each other and were properly close. It's all a bit sad now.

He also has a younger brother Will, who you can't see here, but to be honest that's basically the experience you will probably have while watching the show. Here's Will:

Anyway. Nathan's life outside his family - and eventually within his family - is a less than happy one. From the pictures I have found, he seems to spend a lot of his life being alarmed and baffled by filthy heterosexuality.

Maisie: happy about apparent heterosexuality. Nathan: not so happy. Also, the man in those two pictures is Declan, Nathan's mother's boyfriend. You'll be seeing a lot more of him later.

Again, Nathan is alarmed by the apparent heterosexuality happening right in front of him. However, as some of you may have spotted, given that the man his sister Maisie is possibly about to kiss is in fact their half-brother Ryan, in this case his alarm is somewhat appropriate.
However, neither Maisie nor Nathan nor Ryan know that they are brother and sister, so none of them think much of it. Nathan and Ryan have a fairly casual conversation about it, in fact:

They are having this conversation because Ryan is/was dating Maisie's friend Katie, and they're carrying on in secret because they don't want to upset her, even after Ryan broke up with her. Nathan is telling Ryan not to mess Maisie about, but eventually agrees to help them keep it quiet, to help Maisie. Because their lives are just that awful.
Anyway. When Nathan isn't being confused and enraged by heterosexuality, he mostly has to deal with being manhandled by nearly the entire male population of Emmerdale:

Anyway. So his life isn't the easiest as it is. And also, he often kind of a dick. But then his family life starts to go down the pan a bit. This is him not really taking it very well when he finds out his dad had an affair with Ryan's mother, Faye:

You might notice Nathan's parents looking vaguely worried about him in these pictures. Don't expect that to happen too often.
Anyway, so he's upset when he finds out his dad's been having an affair. So imagine how he feels when he finds out his dad hasn't been having an affair, Faye is actually his secret first wife, with whom he has a secret son Ryan, and has been lying to his whole family about who he is, his life, and even his name, for years. Although he doesn't take it as badly as his mum, Natasha, takes it, when she shoots and kills Nathan's dad, and then buries him in the woods. But Nathan doesn't know about that. Yet.
Maisie and Ryan found out they were brother and sister, just as they were about to sleep together. Maisie also didn't take this very well, and ended up having a nervous breakdown, and going off to a clinic for a few months to recover. Here is Nathan and his mum taking Maisie gifts in the clinic:

And then, just before Maisie comes back from the clinic, Nathan's mum tells him she killed his dad and buried him in the woods. Except that she lies that it was an accident, but you know. Nathan wants to call the police. Natasha insists that it was an accident, that he ought to help her because before she told him he promised he'd help her with whatever she was upset about, and that telling everyone what she'd done would make Maisie have another nervous breakdown and ruin his little brother Will's life. He agrees to keep quiet but not help cover up the murder, she says if he wasn't going to help her cover it up he could get out of the house and never come back, he responds to her emotional blackmail with actual blackmail, and their relationship kind of goes downhill from there:

So. After he blackmails her, she agrees to pay him, and he accepts mostly because he thinks if he doesn't she'll just ask him to help her cover up his dad's murder again, which is probably true. So he takes the money, she asks him to leave, he refuses, and she forces him out. He disappears to London for two months, and in the meantime Natasha gets a new business partner, and shortly afterwards a new boyfriend, in Declan. The man you saw manhandling Nathan before. He does that quite a bit. Nathan then suddenly pops back up again, having apparently convinced himself that it must have been an accident that his mum killed his dad, and wanting to give the money back and help her cover up the murder and have what's left of his family all be a family again. He mostly comes because he's heard about Declan, and - being somewhat understandably alarmed about his mum having a new boyfriend a few months after killing his dad, and the same man having a controlling interest in the estate where his dad's body is buried - he wants him out. Declan refuses to go. Nathan pays back his mum all the money she gave him and manages to get back in with his family, but tells his mum he wants Declan out, and finally says if she doesn't get rid of him he'll go to the police and tell them what she did to his dad. She says if he does that, given that he took money to keep quiet about it, it will make him an accessory after the fact, and she'll take him down with her. So Nathan and Declan both have to stay at Home Farm, with Declan not really understanding what's going on or why Nathan hates him so much, but happy to hate him back on the assumption that he's just kind of a controlling dick. Which is partly true, but obviously not the whole story. And we enter a kind of golden age of people looking at and manhandling Nathan:

The last one was from after they had all found out Nathan's father was dead, but Nathan and Natasha were framing Nathan's half-brother for the crime, but Declan wasn't convinced and thought Nathan had killed him, and accused Nathan of doing it, broke up with Natasha because she kept 'protecting' him, and then fired Nathan. And Nathan responded by sitting in the office, playing video games and music really loudly, and chatting casually with anyone who called the office and forgetting to take names or numbers. IT WAS BRILLIANT, I LOVED IT. Anyway:

It is amazing. And kind of sad, because in my opinion, Declan's weird version of being controlling but actually caring and taking care of people quite often, and Nathan's massive insecurities and general instability but proper devotion to the people he cares about would probably go quite well together. But no, Declan has to be in love with Natasha. And only subtextually in love with Nathan. Pah.

When he was arrested, by the way, his mother didn't see any need to come to the police station or to try to confess or anything until the morning after it happened. Admittedly, they'd already started a plan in motion to frame someone else for the crime, and he hadn't been charged. But still. It was also the night when he found out, from the police, that his father couldn't have been killed by accident and was definitely murdered. So he knew his mum definitely murdered him. On his own. In a jail cell. Oh god.

This may or may not be after he sort of set out to seduce her, even though she was with someone else, managed to get her into bed while they were both a bit drunk, apparently thinking that if he could only get her away from her boyfriend and into bed, they would fall in love and be together, somehow. When that didn't happen and she wanted to stay with her boyfriend, he - once again - didn't take it very well. The next picture is definitely after that happened, because he was blackmailing her into saying she crashed the car - since he crashed it while he was drunk - saying that if she didn't take the blame he'd tell her boyfriend they slept together:

For added fucked up points, he set out to seduce Leyla, hoping she'd fall in love with him, after 'finding out' his dad had had an affair and his family wasn't the image of perfection he thought it was, and was spectacularly failing to cope with it. And if you take a look, in my opinion, Leyla bears a passing resemblance to Nathan's mum. Hmm.
Moving on from that, this is Nathan looking rather sharp in a pin-striped suit, in a scene that may or may not be from behind the scenes. Between Nicola's (the blond woman's) face and Natasha's giggles, it's kind of hard to tell:

These next pictures take some explaining. Basically, someone found out there was something dodgy about Nathan's dad's disappearance, and started blackmailing Nathan and Natasha. Natasha almost went to the police to confess, Nathan stopped her because she didn't deserve to go to jail if she only killed his dad by accident, and said that they could just frame someone else for the crime just in case anyone found the body or it ever came out. Natasha eventually agreed to this, and they framed someone who Natasha thought was her husband's first wife Faye, but was actually Nathan's half-brother Ryan. It was all meant to be 'if' the body was found and it all ever came out, but then Natasha went away on holiday, and Nathan decided to speed things up a little. So these are pictures of him coming out of the woods with a shovel, HAVING JUST DUG UP HIS FATHER'S ROTTED CORPSE FROM WHERE IT WAS BURIED IN THE WOODS, HOPING SOMEONE WOULD FIND IT SOON I'M GUESSING JUST BECAUSE HE WANTED THEM NOT TO BE BLACKMAILED ANYMORE AND HE WANTED THE WHOLE THING TO BE OVER, AS WELL AS HIM HATING HIS HALF-BROTHER, AND LOOKING KIND OF MAD AND AWFUL AND BROKEN:
