girlofpreyLast night, I watched Casualty. It was quite a good episode. I loved Nick being kind of protective of Lenny, but not so much him not telling Lenny everything about what the consequences could be, seemingly in order to keep him in on the whole Going To The Police thing. Hmm. But I find the fact that when the horrible man, Robert Ludlow, told Lenny about the deal, Lenny almost immediately put it in sexual terms - 'a quick fumble in the classroom' - a little suspicious. Does he have personal experience with that kind of thing? If he really did spend some of his childhood running around burgling houses rather than studying for medicine straight away, it wouldn't be outside the realms of possibility. And maybe even after he started studying, if he was that desperate and didn't necessarily have the money to fund his education like other students had. And when he said he was 'not for sale. Not now, not ever' I found it a little worrying as well. I don't know if the show would ever go there. But we'll see, I suppose.
It's a little sad really, because I heard about the deal Robert Ludlow offered Lenny beforehand from spoilers, and I was worried he'd just give into it straight away, because of his ambition. But the fact he said no first - and then go that kick in the teeth from the dead patient's fiance, ouch - and then decided to go for it. Oh my God. And it's a good reason why Yuki would be pissed at him, as we've seen in the trailer for the last third of the season. And I imagine Jordan won't be pleased. Ooh. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Only three episodes left of the current season!
And I booked for Connotations this year. Woo hoo!
And tonight I watched BBC Sherlock. Well. I watched it last week, and wasn't massively thrilled with it. It had a lot of those weird, self-congratulatory scenes you see a lot in Doctor Who nowadays, which I find quite irritating. And I found the fact that the only female detective - pretty much the only female character who wasn't either 'not a housekeeper' or dead - was a woman who seemed to hate the male lead for no reason and DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HIS GENIUS!! a bit odd. And I really didn't like that weird off-hand comment Sherlock made about the state of her knees, I thought it was quite crude, and the fact that no-one else in the show seemed to make much of it, I found a bit terrible. Also, I'd seen the cab driver killer plot used really recently in an episode of Luther, so I guessed it pretty quickly, and I know that it is because I have been watching TV recently and Sherlock probably hasn't, but the fact that I guessed it and Sherlock took SO LONG to guess it made it hard for me to respect his intelligence. Which is not the thing you kind of want from a Sherlock Holmes story, really.
But I quite liked it. I liked Rupert Graves as Lestrade, I usually quite like him, I think. And Benedict Cumberpatch is quite brilliant, and Martin Freeman didn't annoy me half as much as he usually does. And I was quite pleased about how powerfully they seemed to be going with the Sherlock/Moriarty foe yay, until we found out it was Mycroft (didn't see that coming). And it was quite well-written and funny and everything.
This episode, on the other hand, didn't have any of those weird self-congratulatory moments, which was nice, but it also didn't have Lestrade. Once again, most of the female characters, especially the 'clever' ones, had to end up dead, except for Watson's new love interest, who had to be kidnapped and put in mortal danger to add suspense to the plot, when SHERLOCK COULD JUST HAVE MOVED HER CHAIR, OR TIPPED IT OVER, SOMETHING TO GET IT OUT OF THE WAY OF THE DART. SHE COULD EVEN HAVE TIPPED IT OVER HERSELF, IF THE WRITERS HAD WANTED HER TO. Also, I think Watson would have been fired for sleeping through most of his first day on the job, I really do. Also, he ran off and left the woman an assassin was there to kill, when they knew that the assassin had a habit of killing people when they were on their own, and Sherlock might well have been able to take care of himself better than she could. And, Chinese crime gang aside, I found the scene where they were in Chinatown, and there were all those shots of Chinese and Asian people standing around, set to sinister music, REALLY uncomfortable. What?
Also, a book 'everyone' would have? Everyone in London maybe. I suppose they were specifically trying to talk to their London operatives, in London. But still.
Even so, it was fair enough. I half-thought the bank manager man might turn out to be an ex-boyfriend of Sherlock's, or they'd had an affair or something at university, from some of the expectant looks Sherlock was giving him, but obviously not. And Benedict Cumberpatch continued to be quite great. I will watch next week's, probably, at any rate. See how they finish it off. I'm half hoping Sally Donovan from episode 1 will turn out to be Moriarty. Is that weird? I don't know that I care if it is.
Also, it's the Nottingham Riverside festival this weekend, and I was half-thinking about going down, staying overnight in a Bed and Breakfast or cheap hotel or something. It only yesterday occured to me that I should probably decide now if I actually want to do that. And indeed, book now, if I do. Hmm.

Date: 2010-08-11 01:40 pm (UTC)I think she might get caught in the end; maybe she'll try to frame Nathan and he'll accuse her and eventually it'll work back round to her somehow. A lot depends on whether it comes out that Nathan was the one who did the framing of Ryan and *why* - not that I think it will build bridges with anyone, but someone should know, I hope...
Ok, I won't say anything. This week's was quite sad. I must remember to post my entry about it.

Thank you, IT IS VERY GOOD OF YOU. I didn't want to mention it, because I feel a bit pressured sometimes when I'm meant to be writing fic and people mention it. Especially given the problems you've been having with your fic files (which sounded awful, dude). BUT I'M VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. VERY MUCH.
It depends how much comes out about his involvement full stop really, and how it comes out. If people find out about how he blackmailed her, it might not look good, even though it didn't happen exactly like that, really. And the fact that he came back and gave Natasha the money back ought to count for something. I would hope that if Natasha does try to set him up, things like the fact that he was showing people round the grounds when she'd forbidden him to, and her having a massive freak-out about it in front of the other guy (leading to her having to tell Nathan) might help him out, if the writers chose to remember/use that. Or something like that. A lot of the evidence is going to point to Natasha in the end, probably. Hopefully. Or she'll finally decide to just come clean, either to the police or somebody else. Although she'll kind of need to protect Nathan up to a point for him not to get in trouble for the stuff he actually did like framing Ryan and stuff. Unless he goes to the police and asks for immunity in return for testifying against her. That might be a interesting twist, heh. Apparently Amanda Donohoe is leaving in November, so it looks like it'll be another Christmas/New Year storyline, maybe. Just have to wait and see.

I think it would depend how much she revealed - she'd be better off not revealing some stuff even if she was trying to frame him, but the way she's acting at the moment, she doesn't seem to be approaching this with any kind of logic (ie how she somehow thinks she has the moral high ground...)
Oh, him offering to testify would be *very* interesting. I wonder if she might actually finally wake up and realise the harm she's doing - she might leave him out of it (I doubt it) but then would he modify his behaviour at all? This is all very interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.
(also, thinking for the future, if he is the only Wylde about, I wonder if they might do a 'hello, I am your cousin who's never been mentioned before' character introduction to give Nathan someone else to bounce off - otherwise it'll just be him and Declan's family, which could be excellent in its own way)
