I did not apply for any jobs on Tuesday. There were none I had experience for that which didn't seem to want me to have a driver's license, or some other ridiculous thing. I did not go to my appointment on Wednesday. I stayed up all night, since I'd not been getting up for most of the week at a time that get me to my appointment, then decided to lay down for an hour at 9 o'clock-ish, set my alarms for half ten, then got into bed and woke up when my mother called, at what I thought was the time I'd set my alarms for, but was in fact the time when I should have been at my appointment. I rescheduled, and I'm going tomorrow instead. And meeting my mother in town to get an interview suit. Everything's going to go fine, I assume. I've actually seen quite a nice suit in Marks and Spencer's, so hopefully if it suits me and isn't too expensive, it should be fairly straightforward.

Anyway. The Maria and Tony storyline, as I have said, is finishing tonight. So I'm going to have another crack at why I love it. The thing is, Tony is kind of a murderer, but he's not actually a bad guy. When Peter Barlow's flat was on fire and Peter and his son Simon were inside, Tony and his business partner were first on the scene, and they both ran straight in to get Peter and Simon out. Tony's business partner Luke (played by Craig Kelly, who was up till a few weeks ago dancing on Strictly Come Dancing) got Simon, the boy, out, while Tony pulled Peter out - and while saving the child is the more stereotypically heroic thing to do, if the child is being saved, getting a full grown man out is really the harder job. Tony's business partner then ran back in, quite stupidly, to get Simon's pet rabbit, and Tony judged and hated him for it. When they were in the hospital later, he was all "You just had to go back in for the rabbit". Because it was a STUPID RIDICULOUS THING TO DO. OH GOD. And when Maria suddenly went into labour on a deserted beach, after going for a long walk with Tony to try to bring the labour on, Tony had to carry her to a nearby hut and deliver the baby himself. IT WAS AMAZING. MARIA WAS ALL "I CAN'T DO THIS", AND HE SAID HE KNEW SHE COULD, SHE WAS THE BRAVEST PERSON HE KNEW, AND HE CLEARLY MEANT IT. And, and, oh.

And Maria really gets him, and people are a bit odd about Maria. People on the messageboards say things like "beautiful but foolish Maria" and "pretty but naive", when MARIA IS SORT OF A GENIUS. Her dead husband started crying out another woman's name after he fell down a cliff and was being taken off to hospital and was delirious, and she was just like "Right, so you're completely in love with Carla then". And he kept telling her that no, he really loved her, he felt nothing for Carla, but he was totally completely in love with Carla, and Maria just knew. And after her husband had died, and she found out that Tony had seen a video of Carla and Maria's husband Liam kissing, she knew almost straight away that Tony had had Liam killed, and how he'd done it, and EVERYTHING. Because she is GREAT. People say she is naive because she believes the people she loves when they tell her things, and trusts the people in relationships with her not to be massive liars, and she is actually brilliant. Tony did almost try to kill her when she was accusing him of murder once, he had a rope or a cord in his pocket when he went round to talk to her. But when she was convinced he'd killed her husband and no-one would believe her, she saw him in the street once and almost ran him over with her car. She had more justification than him, but she has a bit of a dark streak too. And that's another sad, slightly twisted thing about their relationship - even when she "knew" he'd killed her husband, she got him then too. She understood what he'd done and why he'd done it. BECAUSE SHE IS BRILLIANT. AND THEY ARE A BIT AMAZING.

And he loved her and he loved her baby. He walked into Roy's cafe last week to menace Roy, and he had the baby (also called Liam) strapped to his chest. IT WAS GREAT. And they took him to the police station to be interrogated on Monday, and he was talking about how he had a great life now, he was engaged to be married, he was in love with Maria, and he had a baby. And the policeman who was angry at him said "Yes, but he's not YOUR baby, is he?". And Tony just stopped, and said "No. But I was hoping to adopt..." HE WAS TOTALLY PLANNING TO ADOPT. HE LOVES BABY LIAM. HE IS FROM SCOTLAND AND SOMETIMES CALLS HIM "WEE". "THE WEE BABY", ETC. I LOVE HIM. When he was in the station being interrogated we started on a scene of the angry policeman coming back with a drink for him and saying "You did say you wanted tea, didn't you?", and Tony said "No, I said I wanted coffee, but I only said I wanted coffee because I knew you'd bring tea". I LOVE HIM. SO MUCH.

It's very right that's he going to jail, he had someone killed, and has been making murder attempts since then trying to cover it up (though he never followed through on any of them so far, he usually changes his mind and stops it and convinces people to go away instead). And part of the beauty of Tony/Maria is that it was clearly never going to work, it was messed up before they even started, it is a bit brilliantly tragic. But I love them and I love Maria and I love Tony. I have songs in my head for a fanmix for them, or some vids. One is Love You Better by the Maccabees. Another is Back On The Chain Gang by the Pretenders, which I think is one of the most beautiful love songs ever. Although, as with a lot of my pairings, most of the songs I listen to at the moment seem to be good for Tony/Maria. Some songs just run through my head sometimes, and earlier I was thinking of "How She Was Nearly My Baby" from Annie, and thought of Tony singing it about baby Liam, and OH GOD.

I want all the AUs in the world where they managed to get together properly and it all worked out. I want the historical or fantasy AU where he is a king of somewhere and Carla is the queen, and Maria is like a third or fourth wife, but Tony comes to realise over time and different events that HE TOTALLY LOVES HER THE BEST. And the fic where he never get into business, and just decided to go for the killer thing and became an assassin FULL-TIME, which he fine with because he isn't emotionally involved, and then he moves to the street for some reason, where a young woman has just been left by her husband without the husband knowing she was pregnant, and they FALL IN LOVE, and probably it is still a bit wrong, but even so. I want the fic where a few months down the line they realise that things have been happening on the street that have given everyone SUPER POWERS. Everyone getting super powers is one of my favourite AUs to apply to any show right now. And they have to get all the people who've been living on the street for the past few months or years back together, including Tony. And maybe there are wars, or maybe they have to fight crime or supervillains, but partly there is Tony and Maria not able to ignore the fact they were actually in love, despite the lies. AND OH GOD. I LOVE THEM. It's difficult and a bit fucked-up, but quite true.

The new episode is on now. Oh.
