Cinema adverts:

The Doctor Who Season 4 promo. Is it bad that part I'm most interested in is Martha covered in goo? It feels bad. Maybe they had to replicate her, because it was the only way they could defeat her! If, on the other hand, they're doing a scorned-woman-is-now-evil thing, it will be a whole other level, Doctor Who. And there's Rose! Can I expect Mickey? Will there be an all the new companions ever team-up? Will there be Mickey?? That's vaguely exciting.

Also, I'm sure it will take more than deadly, deadly bees to stop them.

The new Ford advert with the orchestra is quite pleasant, but totally missing a guy running in at the end and going "What...what have you done to my CAR?! I drive to work in that! My car! What - ?". And all the musicians looking faintly abashed.

Is it just me, or are almost all cinema adverts nowadays car adverts? Or speed warnings? They must think that everyone who goes to the cinema drives there, or WISHES THEY DID.

The Fiat advert I actually quite enjoy, because of the music and everyday masterpieces. I only don't enjoy the bits where they use this to spread propaganda about their car being one.

The Visit Scotland advert is quite sweet and cheesy, but the "far away from dry land" bit really just makes me think of "The sea forgives all! Not like those mean old mountains. I hate them so much!"

All the Direct Line Insurance ads really tell me is to never let my car or living room be involved in an insurance advert.

I hate the coke advert, except for the rainbow strap the busker wears, but that wasn't actually on today.

Trailers:

Eee, Semi-Pro! Will Ferrell and Woody Harrelson, and Andre Benjamin! Maybe one day there will be an awards ceremony where they suprise Will Ferrell with all the gay boyfriends he ever had in his films. And I will flutter with glee.

The Spiderwick Chronicles one was actually last week, but mostly I love the girl who stabs things. And teaches her brother to stab things. And has good form (I believe). Maybe I should try to actually get into those books before the movie comes out.

I can't actually remember what else is out at the cinema at the moment. The Iron Man one was also on the other week. I love Robert Downey Jr.

It's like they don't KNOW what a good advert is!

I saw Jumpers today and was trailed for Indiana Jones, Rambo, Awake and that thing where everyone dies and there is a teacher and everyone dies.

I do not think Jumper was quite as cool as it ought to have been, but I loved the jumping so much that I mostly didn't care, and walked and drove home with very little regard to road safety because I forgot about not being a jumper. I can't believe how little story they bothered to tell in Jumper. This is mostly why it was not very good.

I like your Ford advert MUCH more than the real one, I hate the current Orange advert with a rapper person, I can't really believe Visit Scotland take their advert seriously, I love the song on the Coke advert so I mostly just read and like that it is playing in the background. Adverts are not at their ABSOLUTE WORST, at the moment, I think. I wish car adverts were better, though. I wish they showed the car, driving, and swerving round corners really cool without special effects. I wish cars were better.

I didn't see the Indiana Jones trailer! With Shia LeBeouf! I was cheated.

I didn't think Jumper was a good film. Possibly my saying 'it's a great film' didn't put that across very well. I sort of felt like it had more - world-building maybe, or internal consistency, than a lot of fantasy/adventure films around at the moment, which I liked. But mostly I liked the jumping, and the fact that David just ROBBED BANKS, and cried on his dad's chest, and that Griffin had a LAIR, and a little bit the part with the tasering. But no, they didn't tell much story. It was based on a book, and I was quite suprised to find out it wasn't a series of books (to my knowledge), in which case I can't believe how massively it was set up for a sequel. Although I do quite like that they didn't kill off their main characters. But I'm not crazy, I wouldn't put it in the category of Good films, like some I could mention.

Adverts aren't awful, I just tend to see the same ones so often I develop various opinions on them. That they used a song from Bugsy Malone is great, and the one good thing you can say about that advert (apart from the rainbow strap). The new Jaguar advert just confuses me and I end up just liking the song. I wish car adverts were less rubbish. Why can't they just show us endless adverts of Starsky and Hutch's car or the Bond cars or something? Dude.

I didn't mean to be judgey about you saying Jumper was a great film, I didn't mean to sound like I hated it, I loved him loving his dad and I loved him jumping him to a hospital, that was the jump that most captured the whole casual jumping thing best for me. And the bank robbing and generally being cool was great of him. And I like that he found himself a boyfriend and just followed him around and annoyed him. And I loved Jamie Bell having a lair. But yes, it's a bit sad they didn't take that whole world thing and make an actual story, especially when his mother and everything could have been quite a good story if they had only tried.

Sometimes the cinema adverts are really awful, and then ON TOP OF THAT you have to watch them again and again and with people who laugh at them, and then it is like ten minutes of torture every time you see a film. But at the moment they are not as bad, which I like. For example I have not had to see that awful weekend war thing for that newspaper for Quite Some Time.

What's the jaguar advert, I can't think of it? I don't know why they find advertising cars so difficult when car chases are THE COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD. Make a car, film it in a really good chase scene against itself, and voila, ADVERT! It is done. it is over. It is all that is necessary and will never stop being cool.

Oh, I loved him following Griffin around! I love that Griffin spotted him in a bar, and then just decided to follow him and protect him beat up the Paladins he inevitably attracted. But the thing with his mother was bizarre. There was a film magazine or Cineworld magazine or something that said David could have hid, but instead decided to use jumping to find the man he blamed for his mother's death, which at various points could have happened, but did not, in fact. Unless that's the story of the book, NOT SO MUCH, MAGAZINE.

They haven't shown that terrible magazine advert for a while. We'll pretend I didn't like the girls with sunglasses and dogs in bags. They keep playing that awful Royal Marines Commando one though. JOIN THE ARMY AND YOU WILL BECOME A MYTHICAL CREATURE. Oh GOD.

The new Jaguar advert is a lot of swishy lights, and lots of fraction of a second shots of the car driving, part of the word 'Jaguar', and a man whirling his girlfriend round, and other things, with a song I recognise but don't know the name of over the top, especially the 'Na na na, na-na na na naa!' bit. It's awful. I think maybe they're trying to confuse us into buying a car. A SERIES OF CAR CHASES WOULD BE MUCH BETTER.

ALSO - the current Orange advert is rubbish, except for the part where Snoop Dog has a crew, so the dark-haired one (whom I love) calls out his crew. <&.hearts>
