New Brick icons, yay!

I watched the Big Lebowski. The Coen Brothers got me again with their oddly-paced endings and I didn't recognise any of the actors I thought I loved. But there was still plenty of homoerotic banter, so I was happy. And it was quite funny, though didn't quite meet the (admittedly astronomical) expectations I had from how everyone talks about it. But the Dude was oddly, unexpectedly sexy, so I forgave it. Like woah. I liked Donny. Spoiler )

I liked Maud. And I liked Brandt, and the way he said 'Dude'. He should Spoilers ) But anyway. It's another one off the (long) To See list, and an extra notch on my Pop Culture belt, so I consider the night a success. Hurrah :)

I love Peter Stormare. In the past three days he has been a roving gypsy, a crazy German nihilist, and Satan. He is Satan in Constantine. He is the best Satan ever. And I don't even know if I'm saying his name right, but I love him, I love him. Oh. He is good.

Mac from Veronica Mars is in Napoleon Dynamite. She is Deb, and wears pink and takes "glamour" shots, and sadly has no computer skillz. Also there was recreational bowling, to which I'm pretty sure I'm now addicted without having picked up a ball in years. It's nice and only slightly terrifying how all my viewing seems to be going round in circles lately.

Napoleon Dynamite is one of those funny geeks who still looks very good )in a pair of jeans. He drew rubbish pictures, but oh, how he danced. And fell over. And there was some beautiful, dusty scenery, which it appears I'm a sucker for. And it didn't have Peter Stormare in it, which is frankly a bit of a relief at this point. So not a bad way to round off the weekend. Hurrah.

Oh God!

And I wasn't going to post anymore today, but oh god, oh god, oh god. God. I just tried watching my new DVD of Laputa, one of my favourite films from when I was a kid and still pretty kick ass now, and they've changed the voices. For no good reason, they have changed the voices. To Mark Hamill and Anna Paquin and James Van Der Beek. And I'm just going to have to treasure and watch my old battered VHS recording forever to escape the travesty, and only watch the DVD for clearer pictures and possibly screencaps, with the sound off.

It's really fucking annoying, because I suppose it's alright for new viewers - how are they to know, and it is by that guy who did Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away, so there's a market for it if the filmmakers push it (with celebrity voices). But, you know, even if it's animation the soundtrack is still just as much a part of the film as the visuals. It's part of what I remember and love about it. Sometimes I remember the words and how they were said better than the scenes. Oh God, they've probably completely redone the lines and changed all the emphasis and everything too, and, oh, Mama Dola sounds so awful, and I could just weep over it. Even though it's just a soundtrack to a random film. I think they've added music where there was no music before too. Gaaaahh!! Why why why, filmakers??
