The Big Lebowski. Dude.

New Brick icons, yay!
I watched the Big Lebowski. The Coen Brothers got me again with their oddly-paced endings and I didn't recognise any of the actors I thought I loved. But there was still plenty of homoerotic banter, so I was happy. And it was quite funny, though didn't quite meet the (admittedly astronomical) expectations I had from how everyone talks about it. But the Dude was oddly, unexpectedly sexy, so I forgave it. Like woah. I liked Donny. And they killed him! The bastards! But at least crazy mustache man was as upset about it as I was.
I liked Maud. And I liked Brandt, and the way he said 'Dude'. He should help Maud raise the baby. He could be all organised and 'I fancied your daddy once'. That would be swish. And possibly Bunny could hang around painting her toenails and smiling fondly also, and they would be a dysfunctional threesome family of love. Yay. Good plan. But anyway. It's another one off the (long) To See list, and an extra notch on my Pop Culture belt, so I consider the night a success. Hurrah :)

The ending is VERY weird, yes. But I love it. I love it more than ANYTHING EVER. And I love Donny. And I love his love for Crazy Moustache Man. And Maud is EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD THAT YOU COULD POSSIBLY WANT IN A PERSON. And I LOVE IT. And I love Bunny's toenails and I love the way the Dude manages to not be as totally sexless as they could have made him and I LOVE IT. I am slightly obsessive and lame about how much I love it, but I love it nontheless. Yes.

Date: 2006-08-12 11:55 pm (UTC)I think I'm just adjusting to it not being quite as SUPERFINEWOW as other people's reactions had me think - probably a quality no one film can contain. It was very good, yes. I liked how John Goodman was as crazy as he was in Barton Fink, but the two policemen here were nothing like the two detectives there. And so on. You are obsessive and lame about GOOD THINGS, don't worry.
I loved Maud. I loved her conception yoga and making the Dude spit out his drink, and giving her dad an allowance (eee). I loved Donny and the look on his face when pervert!Jesus blew a kiss at him. I KNOW IT WAS WRONG OF ME. I loved the Dude dancing in a tool belt (omghot). But I did LOVE Brandt and how quickly he got into familiarly saying 'Dude'. And his look of fear when the Dude was messing things up in the limo. They would blatantly have done sex had they not had the whole blackmail and kidnapping thing to deal with. And they had met another way. Um. Yes. LOVE.
