Work, and the curse of the sexy
Jul. 9th, 2007 07:36 pmOh, there's a special in the new Total Film about Malcolm McDowell, probably to do with the release of If... on DVD (just when I can't afford it, thanks again world), and it has pictures of him from when he was younger, and now all I want to do is read fic about young, sexy Linderman with superpowers. OH, THAT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.
Perdy's being beautiful on Emmerdale, and tonight she was being beautiful with a kitten, and Rosemary's being absolutely horrible to her, and is clearly going to throttle the kitten and be all "Perdy, WHY WOULD YOU KILL YOUR OWN KITTEN?" soon enough, but I don't care. Hopefully Rosemary will be found out soon. Or get accidentally stabbed in the eye. I wish nice things happened sometimes in soaps. Not like people being stabbed in the eye, just like people being nice to each other for a change. I'm forced to imagine Jimmy touching Carl in a loving but worried way somewhere off screen. Damn it.
In job news, I am still not king, but I did go into another recruitment agency I spotted over the weekend, and that seemed to go quite well. It's a good thing I stuck it out at dad's company last year, because it's mainly clerical work they're looking for and they ask for at least six months experience. I had to explain to the woman that June to December was six months, but after that everything went swimmingly. They made me do a typing test and a test to prove I could use Word ("Save this file", "Select this text", "Insert the form field 'TabCopy' at the selected point"), but my scores were great apparently, so they made me do an audio test, and I think I did alright at that, although there was a lot of stopping and starting and turning the speed down. Then they went over my CV and application form, told me about a temp position and a permanent position they had both of which started asap, and generally let me go feeling a lot brighter about the job situation.
However, the permanent job (trainee clerical-type at a law firm) requires me to touch type, and I said I could because I assume I can, but apparently they sent a girl recently who said she could and had a high typing speed, but she actually couldn't. And now I'm looking, and I'm not sure if I can do it or not. I think I'm half-touch-typing - using various fingers sometimes, but sometimes just dancing around with the index fingers. IS THAT WHAT TOUCH-TYPING IS LIKE? Oh, it's maddening. I don't really want to cancel the attempt for an interview because I'm not sure I can touch-type. I assumed it was just being able to type without looking at the keyboard. Maybe it is. Apparently the firm angered this company before by sending someone who couldn't touch-type. But oh well. I think I can. Even if I can't, my typing speed is 56wpm apparently. Who said Livejournal doesn't prepare you for the world of work?
I also applied to draw the money out of my post office account today, to go into my bank. It's slightly sad when the first payment was made in there by someone 4 months after I was born, but needs must. I'm leaving it open with pennies in it though. And possibly interest. Dad's transferring the other money over too, but you can only do so much at a time apparently, so I'm going to have to wait till tomorrow to transfer it to the other account. And then the rest on Thursday. Hopefully I'll have a job by then too, and I can just ignore it. The agency are waiting on my references, but think things should be settled by then. And I will possibly be earning again, hurrah. Also, while applying I totally mentioned "planning to go on holiday in November". Score.
