Life on Mars. Omg squee. Also: fic!

I should really be reading ahead for uni at the moment, with my two weeks of freedom. But I'm not!
Went into town yesterday, and after visiting the local charity shop and spending my WH Smith gift card, I got home to find out there was still one more Adrian Mole book I do not have! Major to Minor! Damnit. How much life can one boy have? But True Confessions has a section called 'The Mole/Kent letters', which looks promising. Hmm. I am reading The Secret Diary at the moment, and it is very amusing. Adrian such a darling! It does not have the pretty angst like Growing Pains, but it is still adorable. Barry Kent is not yet in love with Adrian, just weirdly obssessed with the scrawny, literary, nerdy-yet-rebellious boy and DOESN'T KNOW WHY! I love them both. And hate slightly Adrian's parents who are just cruel to him for No Good Reason. And then are lovely, but it still makes me angry! Omg.
I have my Nick Cave ticket. It is in a Safe Place. I am getting slightly giddy about the concert now. Hurrah :)
And I watched Life on Mars! I wish I had watched it from the beginning now, but I was doing this ::shakes madly:: from essays and exams, so I don't hate myself too much. It was GREAT. They are coppers and wear fancy coats, and need to be taught to 'multitask', and Sam is improving them all! And they never thank him the way they mock him, but they very quietly accept what he says, and are taking him to their hearts. I can see.
And omg, his boss! He and his boss! Who my nice (£4) magazine tells me is called Gene Hunt. His boss pretends to hate him, but still lets him ride in his car. And has all faith in his intuition, since he is a cop and not a lorry driver. And gets very horribly worried when people point guns at him. Blatantly this show is going to be all about their love, and especially since he is in a coma (I think this is established by now), and probably needs to 'accept that side of him'. With sex. If it does not culminate in gay sex I will cry. Probably along the way Sam should be seduced a bit by other coppers and management people who are impressed by his genius and charismatic criminals, just to make Gene jealous, and possibly violent. But it will All come Back to Gene!
And Sam Tyler. OMG, Sam Tyler. He is all slinky and pretty, and uptight and sensitive, and smart and Unappreciated. He tries to mix Seventies clothes with (Noughties?) fashion, and just ends up looking the SEXIEST OF THEM ALL. And they showed him sleeping! Sleeping adorably! In a vest! And scary little girl tried to manipulate him, and it almost worked, but then not!, because he has to go fight Gene some more. And shag him. Yes.
And I have written fic. Fic with sex! Vague sex, but still. Probably I have skipped over some aspects of seduction and facts of gay sex, but
jekesta pointed out that there was not any slash anywhere for the show, and this is CLEARLY A CRIME, so I thought I would write some with sex just so there is some. The fact that this is all in Sam's head makes slash sort of weird. But still. Also there is no angst. Or hardly any, at least. Gene seems to resist it. Which is nice. So this is from my I Just Sort Of Wrote It/Sometimes Boys Just Have Sex ouevre. Anyway.
Title: Homeward Bound
Fandom: Life on Mars (post- episode 1.3)
Pairing: Sam Tyler/Gene Hunt
Rating: Um. R? For vague descriptions?
Wordcount: 622
Disclaimer: I do not own them. I do not own any of them.
Feedback: Appreciated.
Notes: Sometimes boys just have sex. Alcohol helps. Also, I couldn't remember any of the nicknames I sure Gene actually gave Sam, so I made one up. Sort of from Gene's POV.
It turned out that 7 Days was a lot stronger than 21st Century beer.
“ You may be able to quote forensics, sunshine, ” Gene said, staggering a bit himself as Sam giggled on his shoulder, “ but you certainly can’t hold your drink. ”
With a bit of weaving, Gene supporting Sam against him, they managed to make it to Tyler’s building, up Tyler’s stairs, and Tyler – still giggling – managed to open his front door.
“ You gonna be alright from here on in, princess? ” Gene asked, leaning against the door frame and watching him sway down the hallway.
He suddenly stumbled sideways into a wall, and took a moment to just sort of hang on and get his bearings.
“ Obviously not, ” he muttered, and slid in after him, closing the door behind them.
Tyler had managed to make it to the living room by the time he caught up, and was starting to undo his shirt. He glanced up at Gene, and grinned.
“ I’m sorry, ” he said, squinting back down at his buttons. “ I don’t normally get this drunk. ”
“ You should try it more often, ” Gene said, swaying a little even as he stood, watching Sam’s fingers fumble about. “ It improves your mood. ”
He got a few more open, and then looked up again, smile half-faded. Eyes almost serious.
“ You saved my life tonight, ” he said, and looked at him, as if uncertain how he was going to react.
“ Yeah, well, ” Gene finally said, after a short, slightly awkward silence. “ Without you there’d be no-one to work the tape machine. ”
Sam smiled, a bit, but then just kept on looking at him, looking for something though God knew what, in the dim darkness of the living room, his shirt half-open, swimming in and out of Gene’s focus, and then for some reason he was kissing him. Kissing him, like a girl, though not quite like a girl, and Sam was letting him. Even kissing back, after a few moments. God help them both, Gene thought, before starting to get rid of his jacket.
It took a little while to get the particulars worked out – neither of them had a huge amount of experience (though Sam seemed a little more au fait with certain details than he was), and neither of them were quite at the height of their mental powers – but they eventually found something that worked, and Sam started biting his lip quite viciously, so he assumed things were alright on his end too, so he kept going, and going, and – fuck, this was pretty good – and going, and Sam, eyes screwed shut, finally let go of his lip to make a little noise.
“ Ohh. ”
And – yes. Yes.
He collapsed down against him, in a fair mess of sweat and other assorted fluids, and then off him, so as not to crush him with the weight, discovering just how little room there was on Tyler’s little sofa bed. After a few minutes, coherent thought returned, and he contemplated just how much of a mistake this would probably turn out to be.
“ Should make future cases interesting, eh, sunshine? ” he muttered out loud, looking over at his “partner”.
Who gave no response, being fast asleep, with an annoyingly contented look on his face. Out. Like a light.
“ Maybe I should try this more often, ” Gene murmured, to himself, studying the annoying young inspector’s face, relaxed in sleep. He studied it for a good few moments more, and then rolled onto his side, putting an arm over Tyler’s chest, and closing his eyes, sighing. Following Sam’s lead.
I do not have Adrian Mole or Life on Mars icons. Or know where I might get them. Woe.

Date: 2006-01-26 12:13 pm (UTC)LOVE your fic (and I don't normally like slashiness but even I can see the tension there, it's as plain as day) and hooray for in characterness. I've friended you also, if that's alright with you. :)
And hell, who doesn't like Life on Mars who's watched it? How can they not, really? :D

Date: 2006-01-27 08:03 am (UTC)Thanks. I think pretty much everyone has noted the underlying 'homoerotic romance' of 70s cop partnerships, and that's pretty much what they're going for in this show. I'm glad you enjoyed it, slash or no slash. And sure, friend away! :)
Surely our numbers will only GROW AND GROW by the day.
