My thoughts on The Great so far, up to episode 8:

I've changed my mind about the woman Peter's sleeping with being nice. I think now she might be a sociopath.

I think the coup is happening soon, and I'm so frightened for everyone. Sacrifices must be made.

Mostly I'm afraid for Mariel. They still have to get Archie onside, and he's a prick, so I think either something bad has to happen to Mariel for him to realise he's being a prick, and that might involve her dying; or she will have to kill Archie to make way for a new head of the Church, even though she loves him, because that's her sacrifice for the coup.

They really underplayed exactly what goes into variolation, but I'm assuming there will now be a smallpox outbreak and Catherine will be the only one who can deal with it. Queen <3

It's so close to the end of the series and I assume the coup is happening soon, I'm so afraid for everyone.

I hope Lady Spenska's (sp?) husband comes back and they get to be happy for a bit before inevitable death and drama. I really like how much they love each other.

I hope there's a season 2. I know it was based off a play and therefore a very contained story, and so trying to extend that might make it shit, and also that the main conflict is Catherine not being in charge when she clearly should be and is going to be, so there might be some dramatic heft lost post-coup. But I love them all and want to see her being in charge of Russia forever. Dealing with (male) nobles who don't like her or believe in her. And Elementov is just like constantly "Kill him?" at her side. Or they could just go completely off from history and have Catherine take over the world. It would be amazing.
