I just watched last night's episode of Coronation Street, because it said it was the one where David finally opened up to his family. I had to watch a truly endless amount of Phelan, quite a lot of Robert and Michelle who I don't care about, and we didn't even see David tell his family anything, just the aftermath. The hug was nice. The fact he was basically just saying 'it's a storyline - people should talk about it' was not. Feels like this is why I don't really bother with Coronation Street all the time anymore.

Anna turning up was nice though. Although I don't feel like I've been watching it enough recently to understand why or how that happened.

They were so excited to have all three storylines happening at once, and they'd timed it all really well and I feel like they think they did something amazing, but actually they were just TERRIBLE at making even one of their storylines any good. That should have been an amazing week of television, I am very invested in David Platt and in people killing Phelan, and I don't think anyone is invested in michelle/robert, but if they'd used it as a time to actually address the fact that Michelle doesn't love Robert, literally got together with him in a rebound just months after HER BABY DIED, and maybe had her talk that through with Steve and then decide to marry Robert anyway because it was just easier than having emotions and Steve kind of getting it, then I would have been interested. But also even not being invested in Michelle/Robert, her being shot at her wedding should have been great, but they had so much not treated the wedding in any way like a proper wedding that it felt like nothing anyway, and in the end it was just a prop to make Phelan's finale more dramatic. Ugh.

And yes. David and Gail should have been just so amazing. I usually feel great emotion just every time he calls her mum, but even that was very nothing. That bit from Eastenders sounds great. I can't.. it's almost criminal how badly it was all put together. There's surely a balance you can find between 'this is a realistic actual story of an actual rape survivor, aren't we responsible' and 'actually this is David Platt we're talking about'. I hate it all.
