I watched the dancing this week because mum is staying with me, and I couldn't believe how good that samba was. I have never seen a samba I liked before, why have people been stupidly sambaing to samba music all this time? It was perfect, because it's a really not very musicy song and samba DOESN'T FIT TO MUSIC, it was perfect. I am so totally impressed by it.

I know, I was genuinely trying to think of a samba I've enjoyed on the show before and I really can't. I can certainly think of ones I didn't like, or ones where I thought "there's no bounce, the judges won't be happy", but not one that was great. They always say it's a dance that's supposed to make you want to get up and join the party, and I think this is the first one that made me feel anything like that. It was amazing. And it was weird, because it's really not a samba-y song, or a music-y song, but it fit that whole party atmosphere, "who cares, let's just dance" thing so well, and some of the lyrics so INCREDIBLY well. It was really impressive.

Wasn't it amazing? I hate samba. Who knew it needed Nazi Germany theming to really bring it to life?

I'm starting to think that British ideas about "times when you need a party" are very different to Brazilian ones.
